  6:28am
robert:

Hi from China, land of past emperors, not kings -- not that I've got any emperor songs.

Pushing your "every genre" claim, do we get "The Hall of the Mountain King" today?
  6:30am
Meghan:

Oh crap! I hadn't even THOUGHT of that Robert..... hmmmmm, wonder if there is enough emperor songs for a whole show....

Morning Magda!
  6:31am

Elwyn:

Neil Young: Emperor of Wyoming
  6:32am
hamburger:

anyone here ride a fixed gear bike? / or are those just reserved for smug filthy hipsters? :)
  6:32am
Chuck:

Nothing to be ashamed of in that respect, Elwyn. My generation does that to much....
  6:33am
other david:

stereolab - emperor tomato ketchup!
  6:33am
Meghan:

I <3 that statement Hamburger....... and yes totally reserved for the hipsters
  6:34am
Dave B:

Todd Rundgren - Emperor Of The Highway
  6:35am
Dave B:

i hate hipsters. What's next, the Penny-farthing?
  6:35am
Chuck:

Little Miss Emperor - Iggy Pop
  6:36am
other david:

Phfff, Penny Farthings are so mainstream... Hobby Horses are the only means of transport for the truly hip
  6:37am
robert:

. . . and there you go -- in the hard rock set, no less.
  6:38am
Meghan:

hehe.... I figured I wouldn't answer since I knew it was coming up...... but it will be featured again
  6:39am
Dave B:

@ other david - I'm going to get a squire named Patsy. He shall follow behind me, tote my gear and clomp two coconut shells together, thus imulating the sound of my steed.
While I'll show those hipsters a thing or two, by gum!
  6:41am
Chuck:

"imulating", DB?
  6:41am
hamburger:

I'm just really really tempted to get one just as something different :D / I am very understated in general tho, so it could be years of pent-up smugosity trying to crawl-out :)
  6:42am
Dave B:

yeah, S key is a little jacked, and I'm not caffinated enough to correct my own spelling
  6:42am
Magda:

That is such a good show.
  6:43am
Elwyn:

@Dave: I've gotta make my own speederbike.
  6:43am
Dave B:

Hey - anyone in the NYC area going to Coney Island Saturday? (Mermaid Parade)

  6:44am
ex:

meghan i hope you come to ...the residents "king and eye" ..
  6:44am
other david:

There's an event in the UK called the tweed run, where thousands dress up in the style of 30's & 40's and go for a cycle on old bikes - including penny farthings... I'd actually love to do it.

Now I'm reading up on hobby horses.

Ah Underwater Theme Park commenters, how I love thee :)
  6:45am
Magda:

Not I, I wish I was going this year. I had a lot of fun the last time I went. What a fun day to watch a bunch of debauchery.
  6:45am
Meghan:

I am going to go Dave! Meet you at the Freak Bar! Mohawk Dave will be there too
  6:46am
Dave B:

I've got my fingers crossed for "Twang Bar King" by Adrian Belew

you know Meghan, he was responsible for the nutty guitar solos on "Remain In Light"

Freak Bar it is! See ya there!
  6:49am
Chuck:

Hard to believe this record is 26 years old...
  6:53am
Chuck:

Ah, a classic from XTC!
  6:57am
pierre:

Bonjour Everyone !
Bonjour Meghan !
(frustrated, here i am again, commenting, but still not listening, even if hamburger gave me ear gears idea)

As for the hipsters, i cannot wait for this trend to fall into the limbos of fashion, trends, habits and such. Its becoming so ridiculous, that now because you wear glasses > some people call you hipster. But i have Presbyopia !
  6:59am
Chuck:

Well, if wearing glasses gets you to be a hipster, Pierre, I've been one since 1968!
  6:59am
Meghan:

OH then I am wicked hipster wearing glasses! Finally my lack of vision gains me cool status! Bonjour Pierre, we miss you!
  7:00am
Dave B:

Meghan, I'm gonna pitch the King stuff and replace with Queenly robes...

Bonjour Pierre!
  7:01am
Meghan:

go for it Dave
  7:01am
pierre:

i miss you as well.
@chuck : wearing glasses in 1968, must have been cool
@ Dave B : bonjour !
  7:01am
other david:

Indeed, one can't wear glasses with thick frames without being called a hipster, I know this to be true :(

*goes and buys a fixed gear bike*
  7:02am
julie:

bonjour Pierre!
  7:03am
Chuck:

Not according to my pears, Pierre. Marked as a geek was I. Over four decades worth!
  7:05am
Chuck:

Ooops, that should have been "peers"...
  7:06am
julie:

How to stalk Meghan
  7:06am
other david:

the idea of being bullied by pears is actually rather brilliant
  7:07am
Meghan:

Ha! True Julie! You me giggle right when seeing that as I am about to go off mic
  7:07am
julie:

the pear is a demanding fruit
  7:08am
Dave B:

Those kumquats are right twats too!
  7:08am
Chuck:

At least I was first at something my geek, freak, nerd, dweeb, friends! Ha!
  7:09am
Meghan:

I see a wonderful animation of fruit bullies..... I can totally see grapes playing mean dodgeball
  7:10am
Chuck:

Pineapples would be the meanest! They've got built in spikes!
  7:11am
Dave B:

The durian just stinks
  7:11am
other david:

And those poor tomatoes are victimised unfairly by the other fruits - "Hey veggie!" etc etc, it's really not on :(
  7:13am
Dave B:

I am not a legume....
I AM A HUMANBEAN!
  7:13am
Chuck:

I've got my first tomatoes growing, Meg! Soon, soon!
  7:13am
pierre:

Salut Julie !!
@Dave B : hahaha… Durians…

i'd consider litchees to mean fruit, hanging beside the Pineapple, acting like cowards.
  7:13am
Meghan:

There was an amazing Czech (I think) animation about a town of cherry cans where a tomato dictator came in and made them all change to tomatoes...... it was brilliant. I wish I could find that again
  7:14am
other david:

*now visualises the prisoner... with beans*
  7:14am
pierre:

I'm having Lemons next year !
(lemons would stay cool, lemon and limes are cool right?)
  7:14am
hamburger:

~attack, of the killer tomatoes~ :)
  7:14am
Dave B:

Oh, Pierre - I scooped up this collection "Discovering French Music Vol 1-5"

Good stuff!
  7:16am
Chuck:

Lemons and limes are the punks of the fruit world, Peirre!
  7:17am
Chuck:

Noooo, we will NEVER be sweet! Get over it!
  7:17am
other david:

Dr. K Gyasi writes a mean tune

*bops*
  7:18am
Elwyn:

I used to think mandarins were Chinese!
  7:19am
other david:

@Chuck - and I find oranges to be more postpunk
  7:19am
Chuck:

Fruit doesn't generally recognize international borders, Elwyn...
  7:19am
pierre:

@Dave B : between georges brassens, Mano Solo, Charles Trenet, you are going though a total french experience
  7:20am
other david:

Tell that to the Kiwi's!
  7:22am
Meghan:

In Puerto Rico, they call orange juice- jugo de china, not jugo de naranja. Juice of China? WTF?
  7:23am
Chuck:

But why is there a bird and a fruit named "kiwi"? Which got named first?
  7:24am
Chuck:

We don't have Woodpecker fruit!
  7:24am
hamburger:

Wax Jambu / Water Apples must be the hipsters of the fruit world.. all exotic looking and no substance... YOU MAKE ME SICK WAX JAMBU.. I SPIT ON YOUR SHOES!!
  7:24am
Dave B:

@ Pierre - just trying to re-enforce my classes. I figured film and music are a good way... and music just rules.

So, if a tomato is a fruit, an eggplant too, right?

What's next? Will Pluto be demoted from the list of planets? Will astrological signs shift?
  7:25am
Dave B:

And rumor has it, that it was a pommegranite that Eve bit into in the Garden of Eden....

that BITCH!
  7:27am
other david:

The kiwifruit invaded New Zealand sometime around 1432 - in honour of their heroic conquest, they renamed the bird.

Stop bullying tomatoes Dave B, they're misunderstood. Take your hate crimes elsewhere.
  7:28am
Chuck:

So apples have been taking the heat for something they never did, ay Dave...
  7:29am
Dave B:

I DEMAND A BACK TO BACK VEGGIES V FRUITS SHOWDOWN THEME SHOW!!
  7:30am
other david:

Well some revisionists have tried to pin the blame on apples, but I don't think any historians take the lies of the pommegranite's seriously.
  7:30am
Amanda:

Hi Meghan! It's like 3 in the afternoon in St. Petersburg, so I'm way awake now. (But I'm home.) So nice to hear you live. You are king of the world.
  7:31am
Jay/ London:

pumpkins RULE !!!!
  7:31am
hamburger:

and to think this whole fruit conversation started with chuck saying pears instead of peers :D
  7:32am
Meghan:

Awww AMANDA! How was your trip!
  7:32am
Chuck:

Happens all the time here at UTP, hamburger!
  7:33am
Chuck:

Surprised no one has brought fruit cups into it...
  7:33am
Meghan:

When I went to Moscow, I had an afternoon beer around 4 pm...... so when I got back home, I started to crave beer at 10 am..... It was bad
  7:34am
Jay/ London:

@Hamburger just show how easy it is to start a veg V fruit war !!!
  7:34am
helsingfred:

no Queen ?
  7:34am
Dave B:

Fruits are formidable weapons:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=piWCBOsJr-w
  7:35am
robert:

Durian is KING; sorry a little late in making this point, just stepped out to the store to buy some DURIAN (I'm serious). The mangosteen, which I also love, is the queen of fruit.
  7:35am
Chuck:

Fruit cups a basically a gang....
  7:36am
Meghan:

mangosteen? it's like a cross between a mango and Bruce Springsteen....
  7:37am
Jay/ London:

is a pumpkin a fruit or a veg ?
  7:38am
Chuck:

I think all squashes are considered vegges, Jay...
  7:38am
julie:

fmu on a plane. this is cool. until they make me turn off. hi Amanda!
  7:38am
Dave B:

That would make the Mangosteen "THE BOSS"

"Monstera Deliciosa" will DESTROY ALL FRUITS!
  7:38am
Amanda:

Haha, yes, I got into the habit of buying beer in the store and walking around the streets with it at around teatime. Sun didn't go down until 1 AM so it always felt like happy hour. It was a great time.
  7:38am
other david:

lol - dave b - thanks for the python - i never considered the passion fruit, for shame

needless to say they're more into the Isaac Hayes
  7:38am
helsingfred:

There once was a guy who tried to cross / a crocodile with an abalone / He thought he'd get an abadile / but all he got was a crocabalonie
  7:39am
Chuck:

And why is there a sport named after a veg? Could someone please tell me that!
  7:40am
Murphy Kat:

great transition,
  7:40am
Amanda:

whuttup Julie! Enjoy your vaca!
  7:40am
robert:

@meghan. it's more like a lichee than a mango, but definitely it's own thing. Almost everyone likes it; which I'll admit the durian can't claim. USDA bans importing them, as they do have insect issues. So never born in the USA. Usually Indonesia or Malaysia.
  7:41am
Dave B:

Durian Durian "Hungry Like The Wolf"
  7:41am
Maxa:

Kings of the Wild Frontier by Adam Ant, please!
  7:42am
Meghan:

Thanks Murphy Kat....... I have a visual of a cat that folds up into the wall for some reason......
  7:42am
Meghan:

Awww, sorry Maxa! I did have it..... it sadly made the cut last minute. I really need a 6 hour show. Ha!
  7:43am
julie:

this is Beatley
  7:43am
other david:

*visualises a mango businessfruit demanding a durian's birthcert*
  7:44am
Chuck:

I've seen my cat fold himself into many things, Meg... heheh....
  7:45am
Dave B:

Billie Holiday - "Strange Fruit"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4ZyuULy9zs
  7:45am
Chuck:

And Siouxsie and the Banshees have a version as well, DB...
  7:47am
Chuck:

Wow, haven't listened to The Police in ages...
  7:48am
Parq:

Morning, gang. It's nice hearing "King of Pain", but I would rather have heard the Weird Al parody about a discount clothier, "King of Suede."
  7:48am
julie:

Tori also did strange fruit. Meghan you need to do a fruit show!
  7:50am
annie:

i think from the first song in the set..
  7:50am
Dave B:

imagine getting pummeled by a Pomelo!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pomelo
  7:51am
other david:

Both ways work for me.. methinks

I never really thought about it
  7:52am
julie:

queensryche
  7:52am
PKNY:

Just got into work, but was listening at home before the commute. I was pouring a cup of coffee right as "Speed King" came on, *almost* didn't need the coffee...thanks for playing!
  7:52am
Parq:

Miss Meg, the Queen in Disney's 90s summer movie "The Princess Diaries" was very nice.
  7:52am
Chuck:

"They call me mellow pomelo! Quite ripe..."
  7:55am
Chuck:

How many versions of this song did you have to go through, Meghan?
  7:56am
Meghan:

I used a lot of them for the Bee theme. So that was the only one left that I didn't use before!
  7:56am
Dave B:

The "Buddha’s Hand" is a peaceful fruit.

"Can't we all just get along?"
  7:57am
Meghan:

I should do a fruit show.... hmmmmmm save that in the memory banks....

You are welcome PKNY..... early wake up!
  7:57am
julie:

i could barely hear that last song
  7:58am
Meghan:

It was a low output already..... the recording was quiet.... don'tcha hate that
  7:58am
Dave B:

And Shao Lin monks have been known to weaponize Carambola in dire times...
