Annie, you need to use some utility to open the rar files. I use UnRarX, which is, I believe, for Macs only. But Jill's WinRAR works fine, too. Also Stuffit Expander should work. All of these items are freeware. Just Google and grab 'em/

WinRar is not free? That's absurd. Try Stuffit Expander. Your machine may already have it on. It comes bundled on most machines.

WinRAR claims that trial period, but I think it only enforces it if you're using it to compress the files... I've had the trial version for many months and it's not giving me any problems...

Thai pronunciation: The problem is not that you say something meaningless. It's that you say something entirely different from what you intended. A Thai phrase can have five different meanings, depending on the tone.
A typical Thai compliment: You speak bad Thai very good!

Australians tend to end sentences on a rising inflection. Not sure what that means only that there might be unsure of what they are saying or are questioning.

Mandarin has four tones, as far as I know, Hokkien or Cantonese more.

In Thai, high, middle, low, rising and falling. Vietnamese is also tonal, though they use our script. Malay and Tagalog (Philippines) both non-tonal. Japanese also non-tonal, but with their own script, which bears resemblances to Chinese script.

Hokkien has 7 - 9 tones, depending on the dialect. Most Chinese in Southeast Asia speak Hokkien which explains why Singapore has encouraged its citizens to learn Mandarin.
