Listener comments!

  3:05pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

good day, sir. looking forward to your filling of the void of Irwin.
  3:09pm
don:

no ken or irwin today?! my sense of time is fucked... it can't be wednesday.. can it? at least bob w and mary wing both crush it with the magical selects
  3:11pm
Gimme:

Frankly I could use a break from Irwin. Vacation time is great. Bring on the replacements!
  3:12pm
Jenniqua:

Diggin' this track by Battles.
  3:15pm
SG:

Great tune from Battles! Had totally forgot that band, and who can blame me, we had to wait a while for their new album.
  3:17pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

yes, but Tyondai Braxton has left the building--and they still sound great.
  3:17pm
Mike East:

I don't think I've ever read your show description before. Love it!
  3:21pm
fred:

I hope I'll get to see them live again. I liked them when I saw them but sometimes Braxton looked a bit too apart from the rest.
  3:22pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

well, fred, I guess you know why now
  3:25pm
fred:

I guess so, DCE. I'd have liked them to figure it out though, he did bring something special. I still want to see them anyway
  3:28pm
fred:

ALF!!!
  3:29pm
sean:

diggin in europe
bongwater!
  3:32pm
Gimme:

Man, I love this Wugazi mashup.
  3:33pm
fred:

I need ALF to work on another full-length now, Vintage is great but too short.
I really like that Wugazi too. Any distro info?
  3:34pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

wow, that is just WRONG
  3:34pm
don:

free, fred!
http://soundcloud.com/wugazi/sets/13-chambers
  3:38pm
fred:

That link seems to be broken, Don, but I'm downloading as I type from here: http://bit.ly/qZFzYL
  3:39pm
fred:

Nevermind Don, it works now. Probably some weirdness on my side with the new firefox
  3:43pm
?:

is that sonic youth?
  3:50pm
ben drinken:

nice to have Bob W. here. fortunately I was letting the wfmu thumb drive loaded with goodies from the marathon premium, and it had some Amanda on it, which I heard yesterday. So I guess it takes care of any Amanda fix. unless Bob W. will play some Amanda.
  3:50pm
?:

bob w., I want to know something. do you have periods?
  3:51pm
. . . .:

. . . . . .
  3:52pm
ben drinken:

I may need to pause Bob W's show once in awhile to pop in some Amanda since I need my Amanda fix always on a Wednesday afternoon. just one though, maybe two.
  3:53pm
Your DJ Types:

i'm having a period RIGHT NOW!
  3:58pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

I have nothing but semi-colons
  4:00pm
BSI:

SCREW periods. Who has carrot cake?
  4:04pm
Evercherry:

Fucking sick. Keep up the good work :))
  4:06pm
fred:

Follow the Leader... was that really more than 20 years ago? I guess I'm old
  4:09pm
ben drinken:

fred...flintstone? is that you that old already? yes this came out 20,000 years ago. can't believe it.
  4:09pm
Matt from Springfield:

@BSI No carrot cake, but a buttery scone and English Afternoon Tea on my end!

How are y'all doing?
  4:10pm
?:

I had so many cups of tea today, my coffeine anxiety already turned into paranoia.
  4:11pm
fred:

@ben: do you think old pal Irwin has more Amanda in store for next year's premium?
  4:16pm
Matt from Springfield:

@fred: I think Dan and Joel are forecast for next year. Irwin CLAIMS all the good Amanda's been tapped, but I still insist that he post all the tracks on the 'Nets if he's not going to make more CDs!
  4:18pm
fred:

@matt: I totally second that motion. Let we the people get to say what's good or not, and get our Amanda fix in the process!
  4:20pm
?:

I hate those CFLs... because I have to return them for recycling just like any other electronic device.
  4:23pm
?:

oh, I love that particular 80s bass guitar sound!
  4:24pm
Big Fan:

Are any Thumper songs on the docket?
  4:27pm
Your DJ Types:

thumper! i actually just converted a live recording that i have of them on cassette into mp3s! but, alas, no. next time, though.
  4:28pm
Big Fan:

I will wait patiently then until next time.
  4:29pm
fred:

"?", if you like the 80's sound, give a listen to the track called "Federal Bureau" here: http://www.myspace.com/projetpiscine/music
Heavy flanger and vintage TEISCO synth
  4:31pm
huge:

my god, I totally forgot about this album
  4:31pm
fred:

But when is "next time"? Are you coming back to a regular spot in the fall schedule?
  4:32pm
?:

it's got some cowbell
  4:33pm
huge:

Shazam doesn't even recognize Bleach
  4:34pm
fred:

@huge: another proof that Shazam=fail
  4:35pm
Wild Neil:

THIS IS REALLY ODD...BUT COOL...
  4:35pm
Your DJ Types:

i'll probably apply for a show for the next schedule, but nothings guaranteed. in the meantime, by GF and i have a weekly podcast... but it's not music, it's about beer. it's called BEER HEAR and is on WFMU.
  4:35pm
?:

@fred: thanks. but sounds a bit too roughly cut for my taste... even tho it may be intentional
  4:38pm
fred:

Intentional may be big word. They're perfectionists who can't seem to finish the mix, so one of them uploaded a rough cut to get things going. It didn't work, obviously.
  4:39pm
?:

maybe they should hire someone from outside to do it? it may work wonders.
  4:42pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

why won't my phone stop ringing??
  4:42pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Bob: Oh, I didn't realize you were the guy in the Beer Hear! podcast--I listened to a bunch of those! Unfortunately I'm not local so I can't go to the NYC-based brewpubs and locations you visited, but I do appreciate beer tasting! Thanks for promoting quality beer!
  4:43pm
fred:

By now I think it's too late: it's become a burden and they moved on to other things, but they're still not ready to let someone else in
  4:47pm
fred:

Wasn't that the theme song of another DJ? It sounded familiar and I could almost hear a voice over it
  4:48pm
Mike East:

Fantastic show today. Unlike DCE, phones are dead here. Crank up the tunes!
  4:48pm
fred:

Bob Brainen!
  4:52pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

my throat is shredded from talking! ach!!!
  4:53pm
BSI:

TIPSEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!
  4:53pm
Matt from Springfield:

Fabulous Cha-Cha Twist!
  4:54pm
BSI:

This track and SPACE GOLF from the same Tipsy release were two of the greatest things about '96...
  4:57pm
Ike:

Like! I vaguely recall Irwin playing lots of Tipsy back in the 90s. And several other DJs here too.
  4:58pm
BSI:

....and holy crap, before the vocals started just now, thought you had dug out some lost INNER CITY UNIT track. ... Jeepers, I've spent too much time today away from the headphones. Stupid mtgs...
  4:59pm
amanda:

bob w bob double uuuuuuuwhaaaaoow!!! bob wwwwwwwwweeeeough!!! wough!weeeewhough!bob w.

ou wiki: tasseomancy: fortune telling from tea/coffee/wine sediments..
  5:06pm
Matt from Springfield:

Tasseomancy? This is a weird and wonderful style of folk! I like!
  5:06pm
\|----------|/:

209 for on-air calls. Always was/is 200 for not-to-air calls.
  5:08pm
fred:

I vaguely remember some controversy around Plastic Bertrand a couple of years ago. Seems some guy came out and claimed he did the vocals on his records. Beats me as to why he'd claim the credit
  5:09pm
fred:

I really like that Tasseomancy track. Great find Bob!
  5:11pm
?:

how is it that I find ethereal female singers so much more pleasing than male singers? I'm a guy, btw...
  5:13pm
Your DJ Types:

i LOVE LOVE LOVE tasseomancy. i'm kicking myself -- they recently played bowery opening for somebody and i just found out about it. dang!!!
  5:13pm
?:

I want a house on the beach
  5:15pm
?:

@bob: that happens to me all the time...
  5:16pm
fred:

Bob, that happens to me far too often, so I certainly can relate. Do they have a site?
  5:21pm
fred:

One of the rare drawbacks to listening to the station is that when there's a band I really want to see they might come around here (I live in France) but all to often opening for some other band, so it's a challenge. More often than not, I miss them and kick myself.
  5:23pm
?:

(imitating Butt-Head's mock singing) ooooh'm oooooh, ooooh, uh oooooh oooooh

no. I actually like the song
  5:25pm
?:

Tasseomancy used to be called Ghost Bees, like an album they released in 2008
  5:27pm
Wilder, Dave:

This is the best radio station on Planet Earth. Thanks Bob!
  5:28pm
Matt from Springfield:

RIAA: GREAT mashups! I've loved them for 6 years or more.

RIAA stands for something different each time, often mocking: sometimes it was "Recording Industries Are Archaic"; another time it was "Really Interesting Audio Adventures"!
  5:30pm
Matt from Springfield:

I've heard "Bop Don't Run" before, it's pretty good--but "Tricky Wipeout" is fan-fucking-tastic! YES!!
  5:30pm
Gimme:

Okay, these are just lazy and lame.
  5:31pm
Droll:

Tricky Wipeout works much better than Bop Don't Run. Really works in that crooked way.
  5:33pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Droll: True, it has a lot more "beat" to it than Bop Don't Run. It's clearly better.
  5:34pm
Gimme:

Now is the time I must say "Shoot me."
  5:34pm
helder wasterlain:

Hey! Directly from Portugal, Lisbon!! Great music! You got to listen this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjV2K2OjYQc He is portuguese and a great performer.
  5:35pm
Droll:

@Gimmie, Agreed, the line between a mashup and two songs playing at once is not subtle.
  5:37pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Droll, Gimmie: Reminded me of that stupid rap song with "Crazy Train"s riff sampled and repeated forever. No subtlety there either!
  5:37pm
cokane:

Ugh I hate Girl Talk
  5:37pm
Matt from Springfield:

Now "Messer Chups", is that some kind of British slang? Or perhaps it's just German for "Knife Chups"...
  5:40pm
Wilder, Dave:

Chupa Chups are a kind of Brit Tootsie Pop thing. Bad for ya.
  5:41pm
BSI:

okay, the Fantastic Planet treatment gets a chuppy thumbs-up.
  5:45pm
moose:

i thought chupa chups were from espain
good show
is there a live 7sd today?
  5:47pm
fred:

Ken is away so I'd bet on a rerun
  5:47pm
Mike East:

I remember getting Chupa Chups at Price Club by the bucket
  5:49pm
Wilder, Dave:

Pasensya... lo siento... they could be made in la Chine for all I know! Isn't eveything but music these days?
  5:51pm
?:

Holden, they remind me of Tortoise
  5:59pm
BSI:

nice one. Of the whole Stereolab discog., for me it's this & Emperor TC.
  6:00pm
Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Bob, great show! Especially Tasseomancy--cool rec!
  6:00pm
?:

great choice of songs, bob! nice show
  6:02pm
hamburger:
