Listener comments!

  9:18pm
Michael Shelley:

Darling Be Home Soon always kills me.
  9:22pm
DEED:

I love that Rainy Day LP
  9:23pm
texas scott:

nice flow
  9:23pm
pseu:

hello MS and DEED
  9:26pm
chris :: toronto:

hello pseu. good to be here. good to be anywhere, really.
  9:27pm
DEED:

Hey Pseu
Love the show. Listen every week
  9:28pm
eastvanhalen:

Time to give Lifes Rich Pageant another listen or three. Happy autumn Friday, Hook fans, and a curtsey to the excellent Pseu.
  9:31pm
PB:

Rain - probably my favorite Beatles song of all time but Todd really butchered it.
  9:32pm
pseu:

butchered is a bit strong. Clearly you have bias.
  9:33pm
chris :: toronto:

PB: Rain Song is one of the best pop songs ever. I hardly think Todd "butchered" it. His version is fine by me.
  9:33pm
Siriusly:

Todd's version is classic
  9:35pm
Siriusly:

There was a time when Todd was god
  9:35pm
john:

I quite literally stepped on this Finishing School CD today. We're both fine, thanks.
  9:38pm
pseu:

note abrupt ending to song...
  9:47pm
Stevel:

REM not the most shocking news of the week.
  9:49pm
eastvanhalen:

I'd managed to ignore REM from Out of Time until this week.
  9:52pm
pgw in mntclr:

yeah, i gave "automatic" a chance and then checked out when "what's the frequency kenneth" came out
  9:53pm
Chop Scott:

As ever, I am listening! Thanks Pseu!!
  9:53pm
TageSavage:

Listening on my iphone whilst giving plasma in Portland. Despite the phone I'm totally poor...
  9:54pm
texas scott:

after life's rich pageant, they jumped ship
  9:54pm
PB:

I agree with eastvanhalen and pgw, the only REM album I ever liked was New Adventures in Hi Fi.
  9:57pm
andaloudog in DC:

thanks for the xtc, pseu!
  9:57pm
eastvanhalen:

The outpouring of whatsis upon news of their breakup was a bit of a surprise. But I fondly recall receiving Reckoning as my first review record when I was the newly-hatched teenage A&R editor of my college newspaper. Aw.
  9:58pm
David:

REM broke up? I thought they sure must have by now already. All you have to do is listen to Peter Buck's attempt at drunk soloing on I Will Dare to realize REM weren't rockers. Their best album was the outtakes, when they were not trying so hard to be arty.
  9:59pm
pseu:

no dissing of P. Buck here, he's one of you all. HINT.
  10:00pm
john:

Bassists in the Baseball Project?
  10:01pm
Hey Tweed:

I must admit that my favorite REM was the Hindu Love Gods.
  10:02pm
pgw in mntclr:

i think "document" or "green" was my first, then i went back and bought the older stuff. on cassettes. that i still own.
  10:03pm
whattawino:

Segue into At the Hop flawless! Was making a cocktail till now..cheers!
  10:04pm
PJ:

I don't understand the R.E.M. hate/meh comments - they put out six great records in the 80s, and if you think they didn't rock, you never saw them in concert. I jumped off the bandwagon when Green came out, but I still love the band for what they did.
  10:05pm
G:

For a band everyone on FMU comments boards all day has been slating off pretty fiercely, REM still obviously have an awful lot of people (even hataz) wanting to express opinions about them. ---> They must have done *something* worth paying attention to.
  10:11pm
pgw in mntclr:

personally, i don't hate their later albums, i just never got into them. i waited in line at midnight to buy "automatic" and there's stuff on there i like, but "out of time" was the last album i listened to somewhat obessively.
  10:11pm
M.Stipe:

I've worked hard to get to where I am today.
  10:11pm
Tom:

...liked R.e.m. a LOT until I bought the Replacements Tim.. listened to that more than like Fables of the Reconstruction . .. but Murmur I can still listen to the whole thing .. !!
  10:15pm
D:

Which 80s bands were blessed by the god of wimpy white boy power pop, Alex Chilton? The DBs and the Replacements. Not REM. Nuf Sed
  10:19pm
Never Got It In To REM:

couldn't get there from here...
  10:20pm
pgw in mntclr:

that clearlake song was quite good
  10:21pm
Hey Tweed:

D, I believe that was Teenage Fanclub.
  10:22pm
(mta) Tony:

Right on, Pseu! Fully agree.
  10:22pm
arugula:

ahh, the set list. clearly a pound of flesh at its best
  10:23pm
pgw in mntclr:

"su su sucia"
  10:24pm
arugula:

oi, swill collins. right out.
  10:25pm
PB:

@d. I always thought Big Star was really overrated. As for Alex Chilton's solo career, "uneven" is being very generous (although I do love the song Free Again).
  10:30pm
Hey Tweed:

With spell check to boot.
  10:31pm
deletion bait:

the angry rainy-night drunks are checking in. hey, how many fingers am i holding up? hint: one.
  10:33pm
Purepopfornowpeople:

Any chance of some Nick Lowe?
  10:35pm
HORNET MONTANA:

oh no , nick lowe ? over rated . i stopped listening to him after Brinsley Schwartz.
  10:36pm
pseu:

ahahahahahaaa
  10:37pm
Purepopfornowpeople:

I love you so much Pseu
!!!
  10:38pm
Jack:

Pseu,
You made me laugh out loud twice tonight. The first was your "Attracts a a bad element...remark about REM, the last at the end was when you announced you were going to play some music..."thank god! Shut up!..."
Great show!
  10:40pm
Purepopfornowpeople:

Now that's funny
  10:43pm
pgw in mntclr:

the national weather service must've heard you
  10:45pm
vocal ease:

The harmoniies alone are worth it sometimes.Really Evocative Music .
  10:47pm
whattawino:

This has that Rocketship thang, right? How bout some of that?
  10:47pm
blackgreen13:

i don't know... seems like a lot of revisionist history around all the REM hate... heck, even they were guilty of it, putting out fables of reconstruction and then deciding they had been sniffing glue or something when they wrote it
  10:50pm
pseu:

dreams unfulfilled. Oh well.
  11:01pm
blackgreen13:

Tarkus?
  11:02pm
deletion bait:

@Editor: that's "big sister" to you, bub.
  11:05pm
Purepopfornowpeople:

It's turned into That record store. Please a little originality> I know your daughter would never like that song.
  11:05pm
Tom:

Loved the Capes tune is playing with me still ... !!!
  11:06pm
Purepopfornowpeople:

Great set Pseu. We believe in you.
  11:08pm
Stevel:

Steaming piles of dream FTW.
  11:08pm
Park Slope:

ooooffff
  11:09pm
Purepopfornowpeople:

Oh god I'm sorry.
  11:11pm
pseu:

You all should be sorry and ashamed. So there. BIG PANTIES!
  11:13pm
arugula:

what a kerfluffle.
  11:14pm
Kettle Korn:

Don't blame me!
  11:16pm
Purepopfornowpeople:

I guess we are all coming grips with our grief regarding REM, That and Nevermind is 20 years old tomorrow.. Summers Gone.
  11:16pm
pseu:

I'm got chunks of people like you IN MY STOOL
  11:19pm
D:

C'mon, I was enjoying the Tom Petty-esque pleasures of that last tune, and I have to read about your chair. Yuck.
  11:22pm
pseu:

That was Phil Hartman as Sinatra talking to Sting as Billy Idol. Get with the times.
  11:27pm
arugula:

so that's what o.a.r sounds like.
  11:28pm
Purepopfornowpeople:

Sara Bareilles,Gonna Get Over You video is wonderful. Thanks for the link Pseu.
  11:30pm
Kieran:

Pseu.. Great show, More XTC and REM next time.
  11:30pm
chris :: toronto:

O.A.R. "shattered" sounds like the kind of medicine that only Pseu can slip into her set...like some sort of spell over her audience. This tune would be horrible in any other context. Thanks Pseu, I guess.
  11:30pm
pseu:

Wait'll you get a load of Hoobastank.
  11:30pm
Park Slope:

no , can't play that stuff
  11:31pm
pseu:

  12:02am
