  12:29pm
Cheri Pi:

He thought it epically rocked.I didn't get too many details though because he's been out of town since he went there for work. I'll pry though and report back.
  12:30pm
Cecile:

Epically rocking is a good sign!
  12:33pm
Dez:

I saw Kyuss in 1993! They were great!
  12:34pm
Cheri Pi:

Of course I want a virtual play- by-play, and comparisons past to present; and to play devil's advocate...
  12:40pm
bill:

Huh?
  12:40pm
Cecile:

NICE. I love Iron Maiden as a second language bands (Volcano)
  12:41pm
kamikaze:

Sorry Dez! Didn't bring it with me... you'll hear some Voivod later, though, promise! Thanks for tuning in!
  12:43pm

  12:44pm
Cecile:

Yeah, another vote for Enslaved.
  12:44pm
tom sawyer:

love enslaved.
  12:46pm
Cecile:

I like the hammer ons.in the middle of this one. LOL! Sounds like crusty NWOBHM stuff, and all of a sudden, Van Halen?
  12:48pm
Cecile:

  12:48pm
Cheri Pi:

  12:49pm
Cheri Pi:

"true Power metal"
  12:50pm
Cheri Pi:

Oh my god, this song is about a japanese sword... (lols)
  12:50pm
Cecile:

true hilarity.
  12:51pm
Cecile:

Although I owned a Dragonforce album for a hot minute. Go ahead, mock me. They were hysterical live. Fan showed up in a suit of homemade armor.
  12:51pm
Dez:

Naturally. Japanese swords have both "power" and "metal".
  12:52pm
Dez:

is that the band with a dude from testament?
  12:52pm
Cecile:

Hey, there are only so many European feudal traditions to mine.
  12:52pm
mrmigglesworth:

  12:52pm
Cheri Pi:

"Katana, Katana

  12:54pm
Dez:

YES! Doro! I hated missing her show! She's so awesome live!
  12:55pm
Cheri Pi:

Metal heads do know their history, that's for darnn sure...
  12:56pm
Cecile:

I've learned a hell of a lot about Norse mythology by both listening to black metal and reading Myths Retold. The funniest damn site ever.
  12:56pm
Dez:

any era in history will make a great "metal" song!
  12:56pm
Dez:

I'll have to check that site out
  12:57pm
Dez:

Wow! A punk band named after a famous French New Wave film! Nice!
  12:58pm
Cheri Pi:

the Battle of Shiroyama, forever preserved for history by True Power Metal.
  12:58pm
Rodney:

400 Blows is great, but in a live situation, the drummer steals the show. Amazing.
  12:58pm
Cecile:

I would like to see metal tackle the temperance era.
  12:59pm
Cecile:

Wasn't there a British band in the 80s going by 400 Blows?
  12:59pm
Dez:

It could be done!!!
  1:00pm
Cheri Pi:

What will metal make of these Obama years? Only time will tell...
  1:01pm
Dez:

We've been had. That would be my guess. I guess it depends on WHO teh band is.
  1:01pm
Dez:

Welcome King
  1:06pm
Cecile:

How about haunted tales of the age of temperance? :D
  1:07pm
Dez:

"ZOMBIE" remastered is showing at the Sunshine Cinema Midnight- NYC Oct 21-22
  1:07pm

Dez:

King is AWESOME!!! I hung out with him at the Jersey metal Fest and in Milwaukee too! He's so f-ing cool!!!
  1:10pm
Cecile:

King, I know a couple of young people on blood thinners for life for various reasons, it's hought, but hang in there.

Jeezus, D.Lactose, wow. Hope you are doing OK.
  1:10pm
Cecile:

tough. I'm getting dyslexic in my old age.
  1:11pm
Dez:

Serioulsy. You are all troopers! Good health to you all.
  1:11pm
D.Lactose:

Thanks, I'm doing well now. I got off blood thinners after tons and tons of testing. They kept telling me I would be on them for life.
  1:12pm
Cecile:

Oh, good, lactose. That really throws a cramp in a lot of things, not the least being other medications.
  1:13pm
tom sawyer:

turned 42 today and getting divorced so its weird in my head today. Love deceased, King is a great guy. We met at the Voivod shows.
  1:13pm
D.Lactose:

Apparently it was a freak thing and not genetic with me. I did have to have an arterial filter put in, but they removed it after a month or so. Ami from Voetsek also had a blood clot a few years back.
  1:17pm
Dez:

Happy Birthday Tom! I'm a year and 25 days behind you.
  1:18pm
tom sawyer:

scorpio nice! I like getting older.
  1:18pm
Cecile:

you're all babies. :/
  1:19pm
jljl:

It's Libra time.
  1:20pm
Dez:

Loved that Rock Goddess tune
  1:22pm
Cecile:

I think it's interesting that the UK had some great all-female bands that wrote their own stuff and they don't get any attention, and the Runaways are lionized. I love them, but it's interesting.
  1:22pm
Amy:

Hey Tom...Happy Happy Birthday dude. Getting a divorce?? Say it isn't so?
  1:24pm
Dez:

I love VoiVod. haven't seen them with the new guitarist yet
  1:26pm
Amy:

Chewy!!
  1:29pm
D.Lactose:

What are King's thoughts on Scion's infiltration into the metal underground?
  1:31pm
Amy:

Hey King and Diane,

Play some Project: Failing Flesh
  1:32pm
Cheri Pi:

I have this RIOT album! I bought it for a craft project and have never listened to it!!!!
  1:36pm
Cheri Pi:

Ryan McKenney (Trap them) has a great piece on the Scion fests: http://www.metalsucks.net/2010/07/19/trap-thems-ryan-mckenney-responds-to-sacha-dunables-metalsucks-column/
  1:38pm
tom sawyer:

project failng flesh? who are they???
  1:38pm
tom sawyer:

yeah man so sucks...
  1:39pm
tom sawyer:

Ramones...just the best.
  1:40pm
Cecile:

A car company is putting on metal fests?
  1:41pm
mrmigglesworth:

nice!!....WENDY O!!!!!!!!!!!!
  1:42pm
Cheri Pi:

This guy better do what she says...
  1:49pm
Dez:

S-A-B-B-A-T-H ! ! ! YES!!! "Mob Rules"!!!
  1:52pm
tom sawyer:

I am the same way about a new Voivod record. Cant wait for the new record.
  1:55pm
mrmigglesworth:

thanks king fowley for sharing some of your musical taste/knowledge with us..thanx diane!...he sounds like a great guy to know and meet..wish there were more people like him
  1:57pm
Nordens fåglar:

"not Kill èm all, Mob Rules.." sabbath with dio, epic!
  1:59pm
Cecile:

I'm sensing some confusion between robots and clones here. :D
  2:02pm
bill:

I'm having doubts about this No Doubt track
  2:02pm
tom sawyer:

heard gwen is going to the show on Saturday.
  2:03pm
Craig:

Is this the first time a No Doubt song has been on the Fun Machine?
  2:04pm
Dez:

A great moment for me was hanging out in the auditorium seats at the NJ metalfest with King and we were talking about other musical genres and bands and he told me he was a HUGE "No Doubt" fan and that just blew me away. I respected that so much because I like so much outside the metal genre like The Cure and ABBA etc- it just completely legitimized no only No Doubt- in the sense that someone like King Fowley would like them so much, but in just that its fine to be yourself and like what you like.
  2:04pm
tom sawyer:

yeah man
  2:05pm
kamikaze:

@Craig YES!
  2:06pm
Cheri Pi:

ahh, he has quirky taste in Female fronted bands, it's pretty cute.
  2:06pm
Dez:

"Headless Cross" and The Eternal Idol" are phenomenal! Kings got the Sabbath down!!
  2:08pm
Dez:

@ Cheri- I have the same quirkiness taste with the female bands. It's hard to explain- but its satisfying to be all over the place.
  2:09pm
Cheri Pi:

Aren't most music fans all over the place, in our own "special" way?
  2:11pm
josh:

King, you have a rad attitude on music.
music appreciation should be varied.
  2:12pm
Kim Wright:

Hey, King....I'm listening!!!! Can't wait for our "reunion " on the 21st!
  2:12pm
Dez:

You would think.... but sometimes I run into unexpected "uptightness" especially at shows or around people who don't know me. Some metal fans can be pretty close minded as well as some so-called musical snobs like jazz fiends and "proggies". They have these stupid rules for what you should and shouldn't like.
  2:16pm
tom sawyer:

king loves the foo fighters...
  2:16pm
tom sawyer:

umm not really....
  2:17pm
Cecile:

Tell me about it., King and Ike.
I just don't talk much about what I like anymore.

Marty Friedman!
  2:17pm
Cheri Pi:

I love most genres, except the obvious ones like new country and vocoder pop.
  2:18pm
Cecile:

As a Chromeo fan, I am required to love the vocoder, but Auto Tune ain't the vocoder.
  2:19pm
Cecile:

I barely tolerate it when RuPaul uses it. Girl's gotta get himself a real vocoder.
  2:19pm
Cecile:

You may now mock my musical taste freely.
  2:20pm
Dez:

Vocoder POP! the worst crap ever!!!! And how about that rap stuff with the chipmunk voices. Truly awful. The vocoder itself is cool but is used in horrible ways in pop these days.
  2:20pm
Cecile:

This is not better than Killing is My Business, but this is a great old-school thrash record
  2:20pm
tom sawyer:

I like everything as well. could care less what others think. I could dig on Toxic holocaust and then the Indigio Girls. So my music tastes are all over the place. Just like me.
  2:20pm
Dez:

way to go TOM!!!
  2:21pm
Cheri Pi:

Is autotune the thing that makes these starlets sound like they are burp-singiong? But really, the only band worth mocking would be Rush (Ayn Rand, dabloons, Canada???)
  2:21pm
Cecile:

the thing is that the backdrop to the chipmunk voices isnt' crazy enough. Your average Funkadelic record wipes the floor with them.
  2:22pm
Dez:

If anyone is interested there is a surprisingly AWESOME book about the history of the Vocoder called "How to Wreck A Nice Beach", and I know it sounds weird but the book is fanastic!!! Written so well and so interesting
  2:22pm
Dez:

"All systems GO!"
  2:22pm
Cheri Pi:

Voivod!!! whaddya know?
  2:23pm
tom sawyer:

Yeah man. YES THE MIGHTY VOIVOD!
  2:23pm
Cecile:

I am interested. Dez, Billy Jam also interviewed the inventor of the "talk box" on WFMU. It was a great interview, he had a lot of good stories.
  2:23pm
Dez:

My favorite VoiVod album!!!
  2:23pm
tom sawyer:

The greatest record ever.
  2:23pm
Kim Wright:

Was wondering when VoiVod would make their appearance!!!
  2:25pm
Cecile:

Mine too,!
Hey, Power In Pain is on emusic! Yay!
  2:25pm
Cheri Pi:

My favorite is Killing Technology, but this is 2d.
  2:26pm
Cheri Pi:

OOps, you know what I mean...war and pain is 2d
  2:27pm
Dez:

this IS on Killing Tech
  2:28pm
Cheri Pi:

I know!
  2:28pm
Dez:

is "Infini" good? I haven't gotten that one yet.
  2:29pm
tom sawyer:

w&P / rrroooaaarrr / KT / DH / nothingface / angel rat best 6 straight releases by any band.
  2:29pm
Cecile:

  2:29pm
Cheri Pi:

  2:29pm
Nordens fåglar:

  2:30pm
Cheri Pi:

I did buy Away's book, did anyone else pick up a copy? It's amazing...
  2:31pm
Dez:

They have some albums I don't like at all but I don't want to get yelled at by Diane. NO- haven't gotten the book yet.
  2:31pm
tom sawyer:

Yes I have that book, great art and incredible stories.
  2:32pm
Dez:

Martin Popoff has some GREAT books
  2:32pm
D.Lactose:

Cosigning that vocoder book Dez mentioned. Insane story of that machine.
  2:32pm
ANon:

Thank you King and Diane for an awesome interview!
  2:33pm
tom sawyer:

anyone in nj going to the deceased show in kearny?
  2:33pm
Cecile:

that says something about Jason, though. He could play with anyone, and it's all "I have some free time. Think I'll join VOIVOD."
  2:34pm
Cheri Pi:

We actually have the vocoder book at the library where I work!
  2:35pm
Dez:

Thanks D. Lactose! It's a hard story to sell people on- like how could there be a "story" there? Plus it's written so well- so interesting.
  2:35pm
Nordens fåglar:

thanks for a great finale! children of the damned, unite!
  2:36pm
Dez:

its a great read Cheri Pi
  2:36pm
tom sawyer:

he was a huge Voivod fan. In the behind the music Metallica, he is wearing a rrroooaaarrr shirt when James got burnt.
  2:37pm
Cheri Pi:

I will know in a day or so!
  2:38pm
Dez:

I have a Rrrooooaaarrrr patch on my denim vest. All too many newer metal fans these days always ask me- "what does that say?"- they can't read the VoiVod logo. :(
  2:40pm
tom sawyer:

edumacate them.
  2:40pm
Dez:

OK gotta bring my son to the playground. Have a great day everyone. This was FUN!!! I hope some or all of you can support Diane and the station for these great shows. Thank You King. Thank You Diane! :)
  2:41pm
tom sawyer:

later dez.
  2:43pm
Andrew:

I like this song KLMR
  2:44pm
Cecile:

yay! Enslaved.
  2:45pm
kamikaze:

Thanks for all the comments folks! King and I were talking off mic about Jason's contribution to Voivod. The records he's on are not my favorite, but he was really the guy to put them back together. They kind of got kickstarted by him!
  2:47pm
Andrew:

not heard this show before (it's 5.45am here now)
It's good! ^_^
Thanks!
  2:57pm
jljl:
