Listener comments!

  Wed. 10/26/11 12:05pm Cecile:

I never quite got this song. The lyrics are pretty random.
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:10pm v k:

Endless Summer......anyone else notice the end-date of WFMU's Summer Schedule has repeatedly been pushed back, now to December 5? Any idea why? Am fond of current schedule (looking at u Duane), but miss Jeff Sarge on Sunday morning - u know, 'the ole' rub-a-dub'
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:10pm Marmalade kitty:

lalalalala lalalalala oooooooooo oo!
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:11pm Cecile:

I love steel drum covers of anything. i have a tape of a Bahamaian band doing Love Unlimited Theme.
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:11pm Dan B From Upstate:

Nice covers, Duane.
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:11pm seang:

boogie down
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:12pm Jennique:

WOW! Steel drum Gary Numan?! Can't get more industrial than that. LOVE IT.
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:13pm Jay/ London:

nice cover of cars :)
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:13pm Cecile:

jennique - someone should do a cover of techo classics - ALL STEEL DRUMS.
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:15pm duane:

HI Everybody! Happy Hump Day:)
Wed. 10/26/11 12:15pm abby in france:

hi duane!!!!!!!!
love your singles
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:23pm duane:

thank you abby
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:24pm Jay/ London:

spaghetti head ... what a name i can just see them walking down the street with this music !
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:25pm still b/p:

Testimony: Someone stole my credit card # to buy merch from a pro-life outfit in Virginia and something else from an all-purpose online retailer in MN. Got a replacement card, and the second charge I've made on it is tiny but is......for.....WFMU!
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:26pm iBeat:

Jeah, Jeah. Make it Funky Dirty Harriott!
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:26pm duane:

yeah still b/p!!!
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:28pm Cecile:

Oh, maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan.
Wed. 10/26/11 12:33pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Dickie Goodman! hahahaha, nice.
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:33pm paul:

i love "break-in" records. total lost artform.
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:33pm fun cakes:

dickie goodman yes!
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:35pm fun cakes:

a comparatively innocent example of plunderphonics
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:35pm Jennique:

Cecile - you are onto something. Metallica done by metallic objects? Better get permission from Lars first.
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:38pm Cecile:

I would, but for weird Metallica, I can't beat Dokaka.
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:39pm #K:

hey you're welcome duane you're the best ever this is HFK
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:40pm Cecile:

Carts. Carts saved everyone's life. (I caught the tail end of that era.)
What's even crazier is try doing a hardcore show off 45s. I did that a few times - that's a workout. An hour=about four regular show hours.
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:44pm duane:

#K Thank you so much! Cecille: Whoa! I tried to deejay a hardcore set at a brooklyn party about 4 years and i about had a heart attack!
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:44pm Neg-guh-tor:

Didn't Linda Ronstadt sing 'Stoney End'?
Wed. 10/26/11 12:45pm abby in france:

laura nyro sang it great too
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:45pm Jay/ London:

this vision of africa is sublime !
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:45pm Cecile:

Okay, not meaning to stereotype, but this is superior gay men's choir singing.
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:46pm Brass Knuckles:

I found this song difficult as hell at some points singing it karaoke style. I didn't realize what some of the lyrics actually were. As sure as kilimanjaro rises like olympus above the serengeti? just awful.
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:46pm Cecile:

4 hours, Duane? Ye GODs.
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:46pm still b/p:

I've caught acapella outfits locally and in Boston/Cambridge and have been both thrilled and sometimes compelled to be...polite.
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:46pm Cecile:

The Wellington International Ukelele Choir also does a fun version of "Africa".
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:47pm vanessa:

Africa! Love it, but definitely difficult to sing..even in the shower. Happy Wednesday everyone...and Happy (early) Birthday, Duane! :)
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:49pm Neg-guh-tor:

Ok. Looked it up and you are correct. She covered it. Damn. She did something worth a shit. Hal Blaine plays on that record, too.
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:49pm Cecile:

do you have that version of Georgie Porgie with a young Miki Howard as a lead singer for the group? Can't remember the group.
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:50pm duane:

Cecille: Side Effect! I have the 12 inch:)
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:51pm Ike:

1) Failed Pilot is the greatest name for a label ever!
2) @VK@12:10, Ken talked about that on his last State of the Station. The fundraising fracks it up. Also the DJ rage that comes w/re-scheduling is surely daunting. Also, was that show supposed to have good reggae? It sounded over-produced and slick and top-40ish to me. Brilliant accent though. I just wanted to hear him talk and not listen to the music. He should do a talk show. All the callers will be like, "What?" "Huh?" "Say what?"
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:51pm Cecile:

I heard that, never knew who did it,. But damn. She was great. And like 19 years ol.d
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:53pm still b/p:

It was fun, but regarding Nancy's "Like You Do" note/key accuracy, we are compelled to be...polite.
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:54pm Cecile:

Damn, both Miki and Champagne King are my age. That's just not right.
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:55pm The Rock:

Duane ... right on!
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:57pm Cecile:

they are supposed to be young! Like my memory of them.
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:57pm Ike:

Belatedly, I agree w/Jennique -- that steel drum track was killer. @Cecile@12:13, amazing idea.
  Wed. 10/26/11 12:58pm still b/p:

The beat and music of King's "Shame" was like a multi-year ear worm for me some reason.
  Wed. 10/26/11 1:01pm Cecile:

It was a great record, sbp
Wed. 10/26/11 1:04pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Duane, you are the best! The Sandpipers! Beyond! This whole show has been so great.

This is my scene, and I'm freaking out in it.
  Wed. 10/26/11 1:06pm still b/p:

Beyond the Valley of the Dolls should have a Rocky Horror kind of participation thing in public showings.
Wed. 10/26/11 1:11pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Still b/p, it does in my house! Haha.
  Wed. 10/26/11 1:19pm still b/p:

Then, ohhhh..the clean-up...
In any case, send some phone-vid clips to Ebert.
  Wed. 10/26/11 1:21pm Katya:

Thanks! Sharkboy is new to me.
  Wed. 10/26/11 1:21pm Cecile:

Duane, are you familiar with a group called Chungking?
  Wed. 10/26/11 1:23pm duane:

Only heard of them Cecile. Any good?
  Wed. 10/26/11 1:24pm Mike East:

I have sticker on my desk that says Chung King House of Metal...I think that's something different, though
  Wed. 10/26/11 1:25pm dale:

groovy show mr. deejay. this last tune started out just like 'down by the river' by mckendree spring
  Wed. 10/26/11 1:26pm Cecile:

I only really know the song Come with Me, but it's like a cross between Dr. Buzzard and trip-hop. Cool stuff. I'm DLing a few albums from emusic this week.
Wed. 10/26/11 1:26pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

I have to be a deadline samurai today, but you're helping get through... Thanks Duane!
  Wed. 10/26/11 1:26pm duane:

Thank you Dale!
  Wed. 10/26/11 1:27pm duane:

Jan! Great to hear from you bro!
  Wed. 10/26/11 1:28pm glenn:

i've been wondering what the b/p means.
beautiful / poughkeepsian?
biff / pow?
butter / pumpkin?
bacon / peameal?
brilliantly / perfect?
bam / pot? ( maybe you're scottish)
  Wed. 10/26/11 1:28pm hubba:

sorry I'm late! Hola... can't miss the Duane version of singles going steady.
  Wed. 10/26/11 1:29pm Mike East:

british petroleum?
  Wed. 10/26/11 1:30pm glenn:

burka / parade?
  Wed. 10/26/11 1:31pm Betty Page:

I'm gettin' you, man.
  Wed. 10/26/11 1:32pm still b/p:

  Wed. 10/26/11 1:35pm glenn:

i was hoping for butter / pumpkin.
  Wed. 10/26/11 1:36pm still b/p:

Ain't we all? 'Tis the season.
  Wed. 10/26/11 1:37pm glenn:

for ilka little thing.
  Wed. 10/26/11 1:48pm Cecile:

Ha! I was going to guess The Outfield.
  Wed. 10/26/11 1:49pm paula pc:

just now realizing how Police-y this Payolas song is...I always loved the video.
  Wed. 10/26/11 1:49pm duane:

cecile: Used to great effect in Valley Girl:)
  Wed. 10/26/11 1:51pm Cecile:

Yeah, that's right, Duane.
After a few minutes, I remembered where I heard that song.
  Wed. 10/26/11 1:51pm Cecile:

perfect song for the steel band!
  Wed. 10/26/11 1:52pm Jennique:

Duane I think you have cornered the steel drum band 45 singles market.
Wed. 10/26/11 1:58pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Ahhh... Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. Nice!
  Wed. 10/26/11 2:00pm Cecile:

Okay, Duane, answer the mystery - why soul singers and Bee Gees covers? At some point, it was almost mandatory that there was one on every LP.
  Wed. 10/26/11 2:01pm duane:

Cecile: Ha..i'm thinkin the drama!
  Wed. 10/26/11 2:02pm duane:

Bee Gees songs are pretty dramatic and kind of over the top.
  Wed. 10/26/11 2:02pm Cecile:

I guess so! They were way more overwrought than say someone like the Beatles - who did have their share of covers, but not like the Bee Gees!
  Wed. 10/26/11 2:03pm Cecile:

They're pretty simple to learn and sing. Just add anguish.
  Wed. 10/26/11 2:04pm Cecile:

Ha! I used to sing "Cinnamon Ship" to the tune of Patti Smith's "Citizen Ship."
  Wed. 10/26/11 2:10pm still b/p:

Jimmy tryin to mash-up Why do Fools with the Jackson 5.
  Wed. 10/26/11 2:17pm Cecile:

I am always on the fence with Carly.
I don't know if it's her voice or the material. Maybe neither. Maybe both.
  Wed. 10/26/11 2:17pm Neg-guh-tor:

Duane, it is a mystery to me how stuff I really don't like sounds good in the context of your show. Somehow, this Carly Simon song sounds Ok? In the '80s I really hated her music. The 'Duane effect'!
  Wed. 10/26/11 2:17pm duane:

This was Carly's best moment..Chic production!
  Wed. 10/26/11 2:18pm Cecile:

Well, Chic are great, but they're not supermen. LOL!
  Wed. 10/26/11 2:19pm J J:

Didn't even know that was Carly while listening. Dope drum and bass line.
  Wed. 10/26/11 2:20pm patrick:

amazing jams today, cant wait to listen later with my undivided attention. thanks duane!
  Wed. 10/26/11 2:21pm Neg-guh-tor:

If you bust out some '80s Basia song I like I'm shooting myself in the brains!
  Wed. 10/26/11 2:22pm duane:

Neg-Guh-tor: Basia!! hehe..she's got some good tunez..won't play them today, but you never know...:)
  Wed. 10/26/11 2:25pm Neg-guh-tor:

Don't do it, Duane! '80s Rightous Bros., either. No disco JAmes Taylor either!
  Wed. 10/26/11 2:25pm Cecile:

I'm such a sucker for that midtempo 80s r'n' b sound.
  Wed. 10/26/11 2:26pm yayson:

you are speaking my language glenda
  Wed. 10/26/11 2:27pm hubba:

I so want to be at home right now with a bottle of red wine and these tunes... woe is me.
  Wed. 10/26/11 2:27pm cats420:

dope show today
  Wed. 10/26/11 2:33pm hubba:

this is cute...
  Wed. 10/26/11 2:34pm duane:

thanks cats420. James Taylor i can't hang with..or 80's RIghteous bros..it's pretty funny tho!
  Wed. 10/26/11 2:35pm Cecile:

hubba, they are kind of adorable in a baby vs puppy way.
  Wed. 10/26/11 2:37pm hubba:

baby vs. puppy cage match?

This Abaco Dream is out of control... I'm so exhausted, duane's show is making me partially trip out.
  Wed. 10/26/11 2:38pm Neg-guh-tor:

Yeah. Try to make that crap sound relevant. Taylor should've stayed a Neil Young back up singer IMO!
  Wed. 10/26/11 2:39pm lazlo:

love them BREAKS!
  Wed. 10/26/11 2:40pm Neg-guh-tor:

Dj Shadow?
Wed. 10/26/11 2:54pm Jan Audun Uretsky:
