Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Listener comments!

  6:11pm
?:

Garageband has phase shifting. Is that phase correction?
  6:11pm
Mike Fun:

But it sounded fine at my end.
  6:11pm
Matt from Springfield:

"Awfully intimate", right after Blimpie! You didn't just eat their Italian sub, did you? :)
  6:11pm
Ike:

I have a very limited understanding of the technical issues here, but, um, wouldn't it help to put the entire station in mono?
  6:11pm
Kevin:

I could hear it
  6:12pm
mark brooks:

Just pull 1 channel Clay!
  6:12pm
Kevin:

It wasn't the loudest, but there was something
  6:12pm
Matt from Springfield:

I could hear everything--you're saying that certain listeners on this same stream will not hear it?
  6:12pm
Audacity:

has phase inversion.
  6:12pm
Jim:

Clay never had this many problems back when he was my adopted DJ.
  6:12pm
Future Mike:

I thought the waterfall sound on the OGG stream was part of that lo-fi sound .. fooled me!
  6:13pm
andymorphic:

for furture shows lay off to tape
  6:14pm
mtorr:

that sounded soooo good - next week....really??
  6:14pm
andymorphic:

failure through phase inversion
  6:14pm
Matt from Springfield:

It's always fun when Ken comes on the Dusty Show--one good thing about all this!
  6:15pm
Ike:

Agreed @Matt! Chain Ken down and force an interview!
  6:15pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Ken: We pledged money for those shirts--you're just giving them away to the filthy hippies??!!
  6:16pm
andymorphic:

its not tape to computer cable or you would have noticed when you edited
  6:16pm
david:

A tricycle needs all three wheels to function
  6:16pm
Sean Daily:

Shows like this are why WFMU is AWESOME.
  6:17pm
Matt from Springfield:

Re: "Rescue Me" I refer to Fontella Bass as a "Minus One Hit Wonder"--because not only was that her only hit, but everyone who hears that thinks it's Aretha, so Fontella doesn't even get recognition out of it!
  6:17pm
david:

i don't know what chicken in (and?) a biscuit means but it cracked me up
  6:17pm
Mike from Cali:

Streaming audio came through fine. Stun me with your phaser.
  6:18pm
Hurricane Irene:

I should come back and trap these three in the studio with an open mic till Monday.
  6:19pm
Ike:

It sounded fine on FM too. I guess it varies depending on the radio or whatnot?
  6:20pm
suggestion:

bump off a few different formats of the show when you produce it.
it will be archived and you'll have a backup in the event of failure.
  6:22pm
david:

"whatever it is, I'm against it"
  6:26pm
Emile:

Now you have to play the Cub Koda track!
  6:27pm
Ike:

Salmon is supposed to be just seared slightly. Overcook it and it gets chewy. Other fish can be cooked more thoroughly.
  6:27pm
Matt from Springfield:

You're in another perfectionist trap, Clay. Snap out of it--sing! dance! do something upbeat!
  6:29pm
Matt from Springfield:

"She asked him whyyyyy..."
"Why - I'm a hairy guy"
  6:30pm
glenn:

huh. every hippy i know is a raging egomaniac.
  6:33pm
dale:

just tuned in - is it the failure of digital technology? i love the triumvirate anyway.
  6:35pm
Matt from Springfield:

Surprisingly Chef Boyardee was a real person:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ettore_Boiardi

He opened probably the first Italian restaurant in Cleveland--which probably explains a lot about the food! :)
  6:35pm
dale:

cmon, fabio. it's just noodles and ketchup. no biggie.
  6:36pm
glenn:

that was fabio's home movie version of big night.
  6:37pm
Matt from Springfield:

Italian neighbors taught my mother's mother spaghetti and Italian recipes, so my Mom always made great stuff--but we still had Chef Boyardee for convenience--in lieu of a tomato soup and grilled cheese for example.
  6:37pm
Current Caller:

yknow, yknow, yknow, yknow, yknow = I'm totally unknowlegeable and inarticulate, just please guess what I would say, if I could actually figure out what I think and how to say it.
  6:37pm
OWLS:

Separation of corporation and state!
  6:37pm
david:

Fabio's Boyardee moment seemed traumatic!
  6:39pm
andymorphic:

fab seems like he was traumatized by everything
  6:39pm
dale:

our cheese was either the kraft green shaker can or the block of govt cheese. fabio must have grown up rich.
  6:40pm
Matt from Springfield:

@andymorphic: Or at the very least, groans at everything! But I love when he does that with Clay!
  6:41pm
glenn:

govt cheese?
  6:41pm
dale:

la choy or chung king was so exotic. pour the chicken stuff over the noodles, dump on the crispy thingamajigs = good eatin'!!!
  6:41pm
Mike from Cali:

Could the phase problem be connected to a Koch Brothers contribution to WFMU?
  6:41pm
andymorphic:

they are like oil and vinegar and Julie is the lettuce
  6:43pm
Dis Simile:

But Fabio and Clay are not all over Julie in a thin coating.
  6:43pm
dale:

big velveeta-y things, glenn. the govt. gave out cheese to folks in the early 80s. may be that was a ny state or county thing.
  6:43pm
glenn:

the fuzz? @@@@@@
  6:43pm
dale:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_cheese
  6:44pm
Dis Simile:

@dale: Feds bought up cheese and stored it under farm programs, then gave it to people on public assistance to clear it out of warehouses.
  6:44pm
Matt from Springfield:

@andy: As a big G&T fan, I expanded off of someone else's comparison: Fabio is the gin, strong and dry, Clay is the tonic, effervescent and healing. Julie is the zesty lime that brings the two flavors together, and the listeners are the ice that keeps everything cool!
  6:44pm
willy will:

pig=orwell's animal farm
  6:45pm
Matt from Springfield:

@dale: Jim Henson did a "La Choy Dragon" Muppet for a 60s commercial--do you remember that?
  6:45pm
glenn:

integers are whole numbers, me thinks.
  6:46pm
Matt from Springfield:

Oh, binary numbers! You want some "fun", learn some Boolean Algebra--that is messed up, I never fully understood that!
  6:46pm
dale:

no i don't - i'll you toob it.
  6:46pm
kata:

wow, 5-second delay in action!
  6:47pm
glenn:

If you thought the term pig arose in the 1960s, you're in for a surprise. The OED cites an 1811 reference to a "pig" as a Bow Street Runner--the early police force, named after the location of their headquarters, before Sir Robert Peel and the Metropolitan Police Force (see above.) Before that, the term "pig" had been used as early as the mid-1500s to refer to a person who is heartily disliked.
  6:47pm
Matt from Springfield:

@glenn: Whole numbers are positive integers. Integers are positive or negative, but always "whole", not decimal or fraction.
  6:48pm
glenn:

matt, isn't that what i said?
  6:48pm
Matt from Springfield:

The youngins is a-callin' to-nite!
  6:48pm
dale:

hey clay, i just turned 52 yesterday. am i as old as you and fabs?
  6:49pm
Oh Boy:

Chicken in a Biskit. Sheeets the bomb. With the canned cheese.
  6:49pm
Matt from Springfield:

Happy birthday dale! Actually I think you're just under Fabio and Clay.

My video suggestion counts as my present to you :)
  6:50pm
?:

wow silvertones were like 400 in the 90s right?
  6:50pm
spidermanc:

i like the term "dibble", oooh is that silvertone with the guitar case amplifier?,,,,, drooolls
  6:50pm
tony:

Indie wears a wide brim hat and carries a whip
  6:50pm
dale:

yay me! thx!!
  6:50pm
Matt from Springfield:

@glenn: Well, just to keep things straight, whole numbers aren't the same thing as integers--whole numbers are half of all integers, the positive half. Strictly speaking.
  6:51pm
New Show:

Gear Talk with Clay Pigeon
  6:51pm
glenn:

i paid 400$ canadian for a silvertone thin twin in 1982. i wish i still had it.
  6:51pm

Matt from Springfield:

Anyone have/had a Casio CTK-100? I was thrilled when I heard the "World's Most Unwanted Song" -- because I recognized the percussion beats from that family of keyboards!
  6:57pm

  6:59pm
Danne D:

Keep Cynicism Alive Julie! ;o)
  7:00pm
Bas, NL:

I got a Casio SK-1..
  7:00pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Danne: I think that's too old--I may get a new keyboard just because my old one is a CTK-100 from around '93. There were other really old ones, like 25 years old, at my grandma's, not sure if they're still around.
  7:01pm
Matt from Springfield:

Always remember!
  7:01pm
Danne D:

Have a good night kids :) I'll check the model number at some point.
