Listener comments!

  9:35am
tonyc:

Hullo dere. Today's show will be made up of leftovers from the last three shows. Sixties psych + eighties post-punk 7"s + cover versions = CHOP SUEY.
  11:41am
iker:

ciao Tony!!!

looking forward to the chop chop!!!
  11:45am
Alf From Upstate:

Welcome back Tony! I've got my chopsticks!
  11:47am
Brian in UK:

Hello Tony, I have my hollow chop sticks in case there is any soup/juices to mop up. Noisy but heck.
  11:52am
Dervish:

No slurping whilst Maestro Coulter is at work, Brian.
  11:55am
tonyc:

Hello there, everybody! Lunch will be served in five minutes....
  12:00pm
Kay:

One from column A, one from column B, and one from column C...
  12:00pm
listener james from westwood:

ooh, just in time for the open theme! good tuesday to all!!
  12:01pm
Doug S.:

I was hoping for Moo Shu. Any chance, Tony?
  12:04pm
Brian in UK:

Tony/Doug, link above picture does not seem to work.
  12:04pm
tonyc:

OOPS!! An old show is airing now, due to a computer snafu. Hope to fix this soon
  12:05pm
tonyc:

All should be OK now, I hope.....!!!
  12:05pm
Brian in UK:

Nos 5, 23 87 & 89 please, if it is time to order now.
  12:07pm
Ricardo Montalban:

hey, that pic looks like the cover to the first Negativland LP
  12:08pm
Doug S.:

Not sure why the new show didn't get transferred to the stream. I am working on it....
  12:08pm
Doug S.:

Not sure why the new show didn't get transferred to the stream. I am working on it....
  12:09pm
tonyc:

Still having computer problems. It's insisting on playing an old show. Hope to get things working soon.
RM: Yep, that is Negativland!
  12:10pm
Brian in UK:

Do you do home deliveries? Anyone for bridge, we appear to have a fourth. I'll get the gins & tonics sorted out. Pip pip.
  12:12pm
glenn:

i bid 4 spades. pass the gin.
  12:12pm
BSI:

jeezus, how long has that DUCK been hanging by your front window?
  12:12pm
Patient Guy:

Take your time. I have no intention of going back to listen to shitty metal music.
  12:13pm
tonyc:

Hang in there, everybody, as Doug tries to get FMU's computer to behave. The chop suey is getting cold, but will still be tasty.
  12:15pm
Brian in UK:

Would you like to be the fourth man?
Madam, I would not have liked to be the first.
Your bid partner, lime or lemon or both
  12:15pm
tonyc:

Doug: Wonder if the end-of-daylight's-saving-time switch could be making the computer refuse to air my show?
  12:16pm
listener james from westwood:

we can always nuke the chop suey. a little kikkoman and it's as good as yesterday's.
  12:17pm
Brian in UK:

I'd like some flied lice if that's not too much trouble, Tony?
  12:18pm
Doug S.:

Nope, no daylight savings problem. Somehow the file you uploaded didn't get transferred to the stream correctly and so the stream is playing your most recent show. I am RE-TRANSFERRING the file, but it will take another 20 minutes.
  12:18pm
Brian in UK:

LJfW I always put the cheap stuff in a Kikkomans jar.
BSI that's not a duck.
  12:19pm
listener james from westwood:

why a duck?
  12:20pm
glenn:

4 no trump. lime and soda please. i admit i'm not much of a bridge player, but i kill at euchre. probably all those friday night parties spent playing cards in the kitchen instead of talking to girls.
  12:20pm
BSI:

@Brian: I was afraid of that.
  12:21pm
Brian in UK:

LJfW Marx Brothers? Better make that Pinochle.
  12:21pm
listener james from westwood:

::honk::
make that three hardboiled eggs
  12:22pm
tonyc:

Thanks, Doug. Chop suey in 20 minutes or so, then! Stick around everybody, won't you?
As for all the special orders: We're all out of everything but chop suey. So sorry.
  12:22pm
Doug S.:

Hang on for another 15 MINUTES. I am re-loading Tony's show remotely from my perch in Pittsburgh. Tony, would you double check that you uploaded the correct file?
  12:24pm
Doug S.:

12 MINUTES AND COUNTING...
  12:27pm
Brian in UK:

I'll go get the export Gordons 47% proof. I might be some time.
  12:28pm
listener james from westwood:

by coincidence, the chapter of the book i'm editing is about the food supply chain in china.
  12:29pm
tonyc:

Doug: Don't see why it wouldn't be the right file, though I will double-check.
  12:30pm
tonyc:

Dougles: 'Tis indeed the right file.
  12:30pm
Doug S.:

Just trying to cover all bases, Tony. 5 MINUTES LEFT until paydirt. Or some other kind of soil sample...
  12:30pm
glenn:

the food chain in china is something i don't even want to think about. i'm sure it involves a lot of melamine, though.
  12:32pm
Doug S.:

That's great Tony. In 4 MINUTES, I will re-load this sucker, pull the wire and hope it explodes like we planned.
  12:33pm
tonyc:

Great, Doug! I'll use that four minutes to put on a pair of socks -- even though I am enjoying what's on the stream right now.
  12:34pm
Doug S.:

Well you only have 90 SECONDS left Tony. They don't have to be a matching pair!
  12:35pm
listener james from westwood:

3 words, glenn: Eat Pizza Hut.
  12:35pm
tonyc:

All sock systems are go.
  12:37pm
listener james from westwood:

sock it to me?!
  12:41pm
Doug S.:

Hold you breaths....
  12:42pm
Carmichael:

Hi IT support people and hungry Chinese food eaters. I still can't get the audio link to work.
  12:42pm
glenn:

what with all these people and dirty socks, i have been.
  12:43pm
BSI:

payduck?
  12:43pm
Doug S.:

CHUP MOTHERFUCKIN SUEY!
  12:44pm
12539:

Hey, is something working?
  12:45pm
tonyc:

Hurray!!!! Thanks, Doug! Here we go, finalemente....
  12:45pm
Doug S.:

Gulp.

That error was completely and unequivocally MY FAULT. No need to go into the bloody details. My apologies to all, and especially you, Tony.
  12:46pm
Kay:

I'm not listening now, but will from the archive. Will the entire intended program be posted instead of the stream containing part of last week's show (if I understand what's happening)?
  12:46pm
Carmichael:

Can you fix the audio link, Doug? There doesn't seem to be an extension to the name.
  12:47pm
tonyc:

No problemo, Doug!

Kay: The show will start where it was meant to, namely right now.
  12:48pm
Kay:

Coolie groovie!
  12:48pm
Carmichael:

OK, the link on the FMU homepage works correctly. The one here (next to the picture) is faulty.
  12:50pm
Carmichael:

An extra "/" on the URL ...
  12:51pm
J J:

Great lyrics. What was the name of that song?
  12:54pm
tonyc:

Carmichael: Are you sure the link doesn't work? Works for me.
  12:57pm
Carmichael:

No, I get an error. But that's ok. I went back to the main FMU page and clicked there. It woiks poifectly. The 2 URLs are ever so slightly different.
  12:58pm
Doug S.:

Tony, it works for me too, but maybe remove the extra slash at the end of the listen link (http://wfmu.org/wfmu_drummer.pls) atop your playlist.
  12:58pm
Ike:

I'm guessing the extra "/" on the URL screws up some media players, but not others.
  1:00pm
tonyc:

OK: Will try slashing the slash.
  1:01pm
conrad:

The one here works for me - you're playing The Seeds, right?
  1:01pm
Carmichael:

I'm using Quicktime to listen. I've never had a problem in the short time I've been using it.
  1:02pm
tonyc:

Yep -- the Seeds. And now, Love Potion Nr. 9
  1:05pm
tonyc:

I will do my slashing post-show, then. Thanks, everybody, for putting up with today's technical problems!
  1:09pm
tonyc:

And as far as Kay's question about where the archive will begin: The mp3 archive will be complete and will start at the right point. As for the pop-up, that remains to be seen.
  1:19pm
tonyc:

Hope your chop suey isn't too cold, everybody....
  1:22pm
iker:

oh, wow, Maria de Janeiro... beautiful track. never heard of her before!
  1:24pm
tonyc:

Yep, the vocalist for this Vogel track is .... Ivor Cutler!
  1:28pm
listener james from westwood:

diggin' the proceeding so far. this is a-number-1 chop suey!
  1:31pm
Carmichael:

Reg Presley sing/talking Good Vibrations. Just when you think you've heard it all ...
  1:32pm
listener james from westwood:

greatest recent album name: a hasil adkins compilation entitled white light/white meat
  1:34pm
Dervish:

I am chopping and hopping!
  1:36pm
tonyc:

I'm glad to hear cold chop suey still packs a punch!
  1:37pm
Ricardo Montalban:

I'm chopping mad!
  1:37pm
Ricardo Montalban:

I don't know. Not really, it's just all I had.
  1:43pm
Carmichael:

Boy, the Lettermen can sure emasculate a song.
  1:44pm
tonyc:

Carmichael: Exactly!!
  1:46pm
tonyc:

She makes me feel so f'ing hot!
  1:50pm
Alf From Upstate:

Loving the show Tony. Your music never tasted so tasty.
  1:51pm
Alf From Upstate:

Actually that is far from true, It is always this tasty.
  1:51pm
tonyc:

Thanks, Alf!!
  1:52pm
tonyc:

I thought maybe the extra wait increased your appetite.
  1:54pm
Alf From Upstate:

Three hours from now, I will be hungry all over again.
  1:58pm
tonyc:

That's what FMU and this stream are for: binge eating and midnight snacking.
  2:02pm
Doug S.:

"Binge Listening" would make a great motto for Give the Drummer Radio!!
  2:03pm
Carmichael:

Well, I know what I'm having for lunch.
  2:40pm
tonyc:

This set will be about equal parts '60s and '80s....
  2:40pm
Dervish:

So by my count there's another hour to the show, eh Tony? How great is that!
  2:41pm
tonyc:

Yep, Dervish -- that's about right!
  2:48pm
tonyc:

Bump, on now, was pre-Krackhouse. And one of Krackhouse's members was esteemed ex-FMU DJ Matt Ostrowski.
  2:55pm
Doug S.:

I went to college with Matty O. We were on the college radio station together. In fact, Matt wanted to do a "freeform" show and no one at the station wanted his show in their department. Me as Jazz Director got "stuck" with Matt's (brilliant) show.

My fondest memory of Matt was him playing with a band at a dorm party. His instrument: Vacuum cleaner. The song: "Sigmund Freud Was Right, I Want to Fuck My Mother"
  2:57pm
tonyc:

Of such are priceless memories made....
  3:02pm
Doug S.:

TONY'S SHOW WILL CONTINUE FOR ANOTHER 42 MINUTES DUE TO A LATE START TO TODAY'S PROGRAM. PLEASE KEEP DIGGING IT!
  3:04pm
tonyc:

Yepples! (Thanks, Doug!)
  3:05pm
Doug S.:

Without me, Tony, none of this last 42 minutes would be, ahem, possible.
  3:09pm
tonyc:

So I guess I owe you one, huh? (i say with a sinister glint.)
  3:12pm
tonyc:

Just kidding, of course. I'm glad to be here whenever I'm here....
  3:13pm
tonyc:

Y'all still there, awe-dee-ants?
  3:14pm
Marsha:

You look good with a sinister glint, Tony!
  3:19pm
conrad:

Still here! Just trying to find a copy of "The Big Bands of the Thirties Playing the Music of the Seventies." NUTHIN on the 'net. Damn, that was brilliant.
  3:19pm
tonyc:

Marsha: Wait until I take my shades off....
  3:19pm
Ricardo Montalban:

Somehow I picture this After Six Combo record as having the generic sunset on the beach picture and the text in white script.
Am I close?
  3:20pm
tonyc:

Pretty close!
  3:20pm
Ricardo Montalban:

After years of being creeped out by them, I've started buying those vanity pressings of lounge bands kinds or records. A depressing number of them are autographed
  3:26pm
tonyc:

Guess buying a copy at the end of a show would get you an autograph.
  3:26pm
listener james from westwood:

this cover of what's new, pussycat is officially wacky. nowhere did i say this was a problem.
  3:26pm
Ricardo Montalban:

wow! I have this record and had no idea this was on it!
It makes the Switched On Bacharach album sound really tame by comparison!
  3:36pm
listener james from westwood:

thanks most kindly for the chop suey! i'll be wanting more an hour later.
  3:37pm
tonyc:

You're most welcome, James. Don't split just yet, though, bananas -- there are a couple more minutes of this track.
  3:39pm
tonyc:

Thanks for listening everybody, and for putting up with the delay. See ya in 2 weeks! (This show will be re-broadcast next week.)
  3:40pm
Doug S.:

There are THREE more minutes in fact.

Coming up on the stream:
The Pagens ~ "Mystic Cloud"
Sweet Cherry ~ "Eight Day Blues"
The Flirtations ~ "Stronger Than Her Love"
Spencer Wiggins ~ "Let's Talk It Over"

  3:42pm
tonyc:

  3:43pm
Ricardo Montalban:

Thanks for playin' some tunes, Tony!
  3:08pm
Bill Yergin:
