Listener comments!

  12:08pm Carmichael:

Surf music! Bring us lots and lots, Joe! New Wave and old school.
  12:14pm KevinWho:

SONICS! YES!
  12:17pm KevinWho:

Neckbreakers! It's a great day !!!!!!!!!!
  12:19pm FW:

GRRREAT SHOW! Not that easy to sit still and work tough!
  12:34pm Mike East:

Love this song. Interesting fact - I know a guy who went on tour with the Dictators and is now a production manager for Roberta Flack.
  12:35pm Parq:

Geez, I first heard the 'Tators doing "Cars 'n' Girls", what, three and a half decades ago? Talk about an enduring classic; this has become as iconic as the Chairman's "One for the Road".
  12:37pm Joe B:

Sounds like someone had a dance party on this Untamed Youth CD. Hi all, thanks for tunin in!
  12:43pm Joe B:

didnt know Roberta Flack was still active!
  12:45pm Mike East:

not highly active. I think they are mostly private events that she does.
  12:52pm Nate in Detroit:

I really liked that version of Shake Some Action. The one I'm familiar with (the album version??) is much more polished and boring.
  12:56pm sleepy neeks:

What is that background music? Pleeease tell me!
  12:56pm efd:

Speaking of Ira the K, he'll be filling in for me next Wednesday night from 9pm - midnight!
  12:59pm Joe B:

@sleepy - from a videogame called Strata Bowling
  12:59pm Joe B:

Thanks efd!
  1:00pm nyc:

Love the Dirtbombs version of this song! Never heard the original 'til now, though.
  1:01pm Cheri Pi:

@nyc-thought the same thing!!!
  1:01pm Joe B:

NYC, while this was thie first recorded version, the co-writer, JJ Barnes, beat his writing partner Melvin to the punch with his version. So this remained unreleased until 2010 on this comp!
  1:04pm Joe B:

so i guess JJ Barnes gets credit for the original version. I guess the two were recorded at the same time
  1:12pm mot:

nice. Monkey Man!
  1:17pm SHIMMY:

this new RS EP is interesting, although doesn't this track bear a striking similarity to "there is an end" (the greenhornes track) ? and the guy from the GH produces this as well I believe.
  1:18pm Cheri Pi:

YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
  1:18pm efd:

Whoooo!!!!!!
  1:18pm Joe B:

Great point Shimmy. RS track produced by the guy from Black Keys. Speaking of There is an end, check the Broken Flowers movie, when Bill Murray gets in his car in opening scene, starts it, they show the radio at 91.1, and There Is an end comes on!
  1:19pm Joe B:

wish you had been there Evan!
  1:19pm Belmondo:

Most played record of the year at WFMU ? I love it !!!!!
  1:19pm efd:

I regret missing the Nor-Tones most of all. :)
  1:20pm SHIMMY:

Ah. Thought the producer was a Greenhornes guy for some reason.
  1:24pm RUSTY:

Aloha from Pearl Harbor. I always tune in online and you always make Th mornings verve!
I promiss to make the next record fair for my sisters birthday next year. It's been years sincie I was home, but the RH Heat tix I won fom your sho back in the spring changed it all. I met my wife on the floor to the Psychobilly Freakout.
All the Best,
Rusty

  1:27pm Joe B:

Hi Rusty, thanks for tunin in!
  1:27pm Joe B:

Live music from LIVE ONES coming up at 2 pm!
  1:35pm RUSTY:

I OWE U MAN, BIG!!
  1:41pm RUSTY:

"SHIMMY SHAKE" GOES OUT TO MY LI'L KITTEN
  1:43pm SmokinJ:

Mornin' Joe & all reckless rockers! 8-)
  1:52pm Parq:

Rusty, that's such a cool story. Someone should write a book, or at least a lengthy magazine article, about WFMU love stories. The Bronwyn-Sluggo story alone ought to be worth the treatment.
  1:55pm SHIMMY:

cheers joe. if only i got a video of that song. amazing. i am talking to the Hentchmen about coming back in 2012 though.
  1:58pm Joe B:

cool! hope it works out!
  2:02pm KevinWho:

wow, these Live Ones are taking lunch money
  2:03pm David Shortell:

When are Figures of Light playing New Brunswick again? That's what I wanna know.
  2:04pm Joe B:

good question Dave! did Dexter do the Who cover at the Brighton?
  2:06pm SHIMMY:

I've heard the drummer for the Live Ones was in the Fuzztones at some point. Anyone know if this is true?
  2:10pm David Shortell:

I had to "search" what you were referring to, Joe.
Wow! No, I'd definitely remember if he played that.
  2:11pm Mike Sin:

"Mad" Mike was in the Fuzztones when Rudi moved shop to California in the late '80s. IIRC, Mad Mike is on the "In Heat" album produced by Shel Talmy.
  2:12pm Joe B:

Thanks Mike! and thanks for the great engineering job on this!
  2:12pm das:

These guys are killing it!
  2:13pm Joe B:

I love this autobio-type song. very Mott the Hoople esque, lyrically.
  2:14pm SHIMMY:

@mike sin - Thanks for clearing that up!
@joe - love the rock star bar / pies and thighs references. don't know another (good) williamsburg band that does this.
  2:15pm Joe B:

Nice throwback to 2001-03 era!
  2:20pm Cecile:

tom robinson cover!
  2:31pm Wrex:

Not a really a Tom Robinson cover!
  2:33pm RUSTY:

I KNO PH DAY (12/7) IS ON A WED, BUT ON 12/8 GIVE US YER BEST NAVY BASED GARAGE/ SURF/ R.BILLIES,
RESPECT THE 70TH ANV. THAT DAT DAY.
  2:33pm Joe B:

no wonder i didnt recognize it!
  2:38pm earwax:

Is that one more night of mike sin?
  2:41pm das:

Is that a guitar & keyboard? Crazy stuff
  2:54pm Carmichael:

Thanks for the rock, Joe!
