Caryn:

Funny, I watched Columbo for years as a kid and never noticed the glass eye. Wonder how many episodes of the Columbo spinoff about his wife solving crimes were aired?
  1:34pm
Caryn:

Oh lord, 2 seasons, 13 episodes... Oy.
  1:40pm
Dave B:

@Caryn ... "one more thing"
  1:41pm
Bill:

I never noticed Columbo's glass eye for years either. Just saw The In Laws last night and noticed because I was looking
  1:42pm
Dave B:

Wikipedia: Falk's right eye was surgically removed when he was three because of a retinoblastoma; he wore a glass eye for most of his life.[10] Despite this, Falk participated in team sports, mainly baseball and basketball, as a boy. In a 1997 interview in Cigar Aficionado magazine with Arthur Marx, Falk said, "I remember once in high school the umpire called me out at third base when I was sure I was safe. I got so mad I took out my glass eye, handed it to him and said, 'Try this.' I got such a laugh you wouldn't believe."
  1:43pm
Caryn:

@Dave: yes, what is it, lieutenant? And let's cut the "one more thing" crap, you know I'm the killer. Hell, the whole audience does, they showed it at the start of the episode. Just arrest me and be done with it.
  1:45pm
Dave B:

was there ever a "drug" episode like on Quincy M.E. or Dragnet?
  1:46pm
Caryn:

What was funny was how certain actors would guest-star on "Columbo" several times, so you could see them as several different killers. Or a killer and an innocent suspect, or a killer and a victim. Like how some people have played 3-5 roles on various Star Trek series.
  1:52pm
Dave B:

Diane - I hope you get some Gwar in. I tried to get Meghan to play some, but it got cut in the end...

@Caryn - I always got a kick out of those shows where one actor would play two characters in the same episode, split screen like. Now, if Colombo tried that I wonder if the glass eye would give the illusion away...
  1:52pm
Cheri Pi:

Oh snappity snap, I missed Hail Hornet.
  1:55pm
Adam in Portland:

Met Pinetop Perkins about 10 years ago, give or take a few. What a sweet and talented ol' so-and-so.
  2:00pm
Adam in Portland:

Oh man was Peter Falk mesmerizing in Wings of Desire!
  2:00pm
Caryn:

@Dave: heh!
Some trivia for you:
"Columbo" started life as a couple of tv movies (I'm excluding the original one-off tv episode and subsequent play), but the first episode of the actual series was directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Stephen Bochco.
The famous raincoat was actually Peter Falk's own coat.
  2:02pm
Bill:

Martin Landau played a pair of identical twins in a Columbo episode.

Columbo was imporant to the series, of course. but the villains were as important. They all had an arrogance and incredible hubris. The hubris made them able to fend off Columbo untl he finaly developed absolute proof that they were the murder.

The actors picked to play villains in the Columbo revival shows weren't as good. That's why those shows are weak.
  2:05pm
Amy:

Happy New Year Diane!
  2:05pm
Dostoyevsky:

I never got a credit, let alone $$$
  2:07pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Since JM in the AM signs off with Hatikvah, will today's show end with the national anthem of North Korea?

http://www.123independenceday.com/north-korea/national-anthem.html
  2:09pm
Dave B:

I thouht Falk was good in "It's a mad, mad, mad, mad, mad, mad, mad, mad, mad, mad, mad, mad, mad, mad, mad, mad, mad, mad, mad world"
  2:09pm
Caryn:

@Adam: he was superb there. Also really enjoyed him in "Murder Inc." and he was delightfully stupid in "The Great Race". And I just get a warm fuzzy feeling from him in "The Princess Bride".
@Bill: you may be right about that. The old villains were always great. Like Patrick McGoohan, who was always superb. And Johnny Cash.
  2:11pm
Caryn:

It would've been cool to see the original stage play, where the killer was Joseph Cotten. I bet he was a great villain (he certainly could play one well on film).
  2:17pm
Adam in Portland:

@Caryn, yes, I keep meaning to see Murder, Inc. New Year's resolution? Hahaha.
  2:19pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

loving the twin guitar attack
  2:19pm
Bill:

Joseph Cotten was one of the greatest villains in film when he played the Merry Widow Murderer in Hitchcock's "Shadow of a Doubt."
  2:22pm
Cheri Pi:

That Saviours is a proper ROCK lp.
  2:22pm
Caryn:

@Adam: there have certainly been worse resolutions.
@Bill: exactly!
  2:25pm
Amy:

oooooooh, how do like your Love? Nice.
  2:26pm
Stanley:

He he! Edgar Winter then More, More, More. Yeah - free form is the s**t!
  2:27pm
Caryn:

I always feel like this song is about her adult film career.
  2:28pm
Caryn:

"The Night Stalker" = the scifi "Columbo"
  2:32pm
Stanley:

Just catching up on the chat and Peter Falk was terrific in Woman Under the Influence - one of my all time greats
  2:32pm
Bill:

Columbo and Night Stawker were made by Universal when they were making a lot of great shows. David Chase was involved in both of them and with the Rockford Files.
  2:32pm
Patrick:

more gwar please!
  2:35pm
Dave B:

\m/ (>_<) \m/
  2:37pm
zoot:

Peter Falk was also amazing with his chums John Cassavetes and Ben Gazzarra in Husbands
  2:41pm
fred:

I still love Sonic Youth, no matter what, they still stop me whatever I may be doing
  2:43pm
lirpa:

Loved Peter Falk in the Cassavetes film, A Woman Under the Influence!
  2:46pm
Caryn:

Falk was pretty much great in all his Cassavetes appearances.
  2:48pm
Amy:

Hosre hockey!
  2:49pm
Caryn:

Oh, Colonel Potter... Loved Harry Morgan on "Dragnet".
  2:50pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Terrific music sets. Thanks Diane.
  2:50pm
Dave B:

SHERMAN

T.

POTTER
  2:53pm
Caryn:

Morgan's "Twilight Zone" episode was pretty good, too.
  2:56pm
Caryn:

For some reason, I always remember Alan Sues in drag, being Joanne Worley. He also was good on "Twilight Zone", even if a bit miscast.
  3:01pm
jerz:

My buddy jan london played with hubert said he was very humble and great all around player
