She's up second this evening, Holly!
  5:54pm listener james from westwood:

the military-industrial complex speech reminds me of "jfk." no joe pesci appearances are scheduled, right? i need to put on my special polarized ears.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Doug S.:

No Pesci. No Ollie Stone. Just the warm, unvarnished truth.
  5:59pm ndbob:

Heya Doug , James, Holly, everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00pm Doug S.:

Oi! Oi! ndbob!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm Doug S.:

My daughter is having a viola lesson downstairs just now. Maybe her teacher can get her to jam along...
  6:14pm ndbob:

Cher!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm Doug S.:

Pulling out the big guns.
  6:28pm listener james from westwood:

seems inconceivable that ike was a republican, given the current tint and taint of the party.
  6:29pm glenn:

well, so was lincoln.
  6:30pm listener james from westwood:

equally mind-boggling.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm Doug S.:

Only a Republican could deliver this speech. (Only a Republican could've gone to China. Only a Democrat from Texas could've pushed through the Voting Rights Act. etc. etc.) Americans are weird fuckers.
  6:33pm glenn:

only a republican could have carried satchmo's weed through customs.
  6:40pm ndbob:

Last summer I found a copy of speeches from the "Tenth Anniversary of National Review" celebration in 1965 - very interesting.
  6:40pm Hugo:

unvarnished - remove one letter and you get - unvanished truth
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm Doug S.:

Fifty years from today, it will be equally confounding and crucial.
  6:43pm ndbob:

Terrific speech.. haven't heard it for a while.
  6:43pm ndbob:

Agreed Doug
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm Doug S.:

A singular moment in American history. Who is the prominent citizen today who could approach such truth-telling to a national audience?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm Doug S.:

I mean, Jesus, Bill Moyers can't even do it on PBS.
  6:52pm glenn:

hey, this melody is nottamun town.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm Doug S.:

en.wikipedia.org...
  6:54pm glenn:

anyway, you can tell the truth all you want, but people have to be willing to listen to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm Doug S.:

Wikipedia references your intuition, Glenn. Good call!
  6:57pm ndbob:

Excellent show Doug of course:)
  7:00pm listener james from westwood:

devastating.
  7:01pm Holly in NC:

Missed Cher :-(
Love speech.
Perhaps someday I will share photos of my younger self in my "Camp Eisenhower" t-shirt, as that is indeed the day camp I attended in my youth. I never understood why people not from my hometown thought that was odd!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:03pm Doug S.:

Aw rats Holly! I could email you the mp3 (I know, not the same thing).
  7:03pm glenn:

well, i'm teaching myself dadgad, and nottamun town is in that tuning, so i've listened to it a lot lately.
  7:06pm Holly in NC:

Many thanks, Doug - I have the lp - I just missed your context :-(
