  Sun. 2/5/12 12:11am Looms:

Not yet, he he!
Sun. 2/5/12 12:12am Wendy del Formaggio:

I'm not dead, but I am going to sleep now. Hi Joe! Bye Joe!
  Sun. 2/5/12 12:12am Destroit:

Hello Joe McG, Wendy, and 12539.
  Sun. 2/5/12 12:13am Looms:

I'm joking but Ben Gazzara passing makes me pretty sad.
Avatar Sun. 2/5/12 12:14am Joe McG:

Hi, Wendy! Hi, everybody! Don't die yet!
Sun. 2/5/12 12:15am The Ungrateful Dead:

That's right, we have joined the fucking choir eternal. And?
  Sun. 2/5/12 12:17am Destroit:

Getting more juice in Edmonton.
Avatar Sun. 2/5/12 12:17am Joe McG:

@Looms: Yes, it's a bummer about Ben Gazzara. Recently saw "Husbands" again.
Avatar Sun. 2/5/12 12:21am Joe McG:

Sorry I don't have any Ben Gazzara records.
  Sun. 2/5/12 12:22am Looms:

@Joe: he had a second role in the last movie I've watched (again) with him: Opening Night, what a great peice of work. He was such a great actor... [sigh]
Avatar Sun. 2/5/12 12:25am Joe McG:

I've never seen "Opening Night"--I'll need to check it out. When is that one from?
  Sun. 2/5/12 12:29am Looms:

It's a John Cassavetes' movie from 1978.
Avatar Sun. 2/5/12 12:30am Joe McG:

Pretty late one. Gena Rowlands in that one, too?
  Sun. 2/5/12 12:32am Looms:

Yep! I confess it's one of my fave movies of all times.
Avatar Sun. 2/5/12 12:41am Joe McG:

Wow, I'll def. check it out soon. Of all the Cassavetes I've seen (and I clearly haven't seen all), "Woman Under the Influence" is the one that gets me most.
Sun. 2/5/12 12:42am Dead Corporate Eyes:

@DCE: Europe, the death of who???? You're waking me up!
Sun. 2/5/12 12:51am Dead Corporate Eyes:

Avatar Sun. 2/5/12 12:51am Joe McG:

As long as Europeans keep brushing their teeth, everything will be alright.
Sun. 2/5/12 12:51am Ken From Hyde Park:

Get out the toothbrush paste for the toothpaste brush!
Sun. 2/5/12 12:52am Dead Corporate Eyes:

that may be true, but actual results may vary.
  Sun. 2/5/12 12:52am Looms:

What a mess ;D
  Sun. 2/5/12 12:54am Looms:

@DCE: we're told US greedy banks will be the end of Europe here.

Avatar Sun. 2/5/12 1:14am Joe McG:

Avatar Sun. 2/5/12 1:35am Joe McG:

Flute is great. For some reason a lot of people hate the sound. But, hey, I love bagpipes, so what do I know?
  Sun. 2/5/12 1:38am Joe B:

Hi Joe, show sounding great in the car radio, thanks for getting me home!
  Sun. 2/5/12 1:38am T-Zero:

I've never understood opposition to any instrument in a group...
Avatar Sun. 2/5/12 1:39am Joe McG:

@Joe B: Hey, Joe! Always glad to know you're listenin' in the car!
  Sun. 2/5/12 1:40am Joe B:

re Husbands - one of the top 3 vomiting scenes in film history!
Avatar Sun. 2/5/12 1:41am Joe McG:

Top 3! Almost as good as the guy from Pissed Jeans in that YouTube video, or that kid in the band playing drums...
  Sun. 2/5/12 1:44am Joe B:

Detroit Rock City also has a great one!
Avatar Sun. 2/5/12 1:45am Joe McG:

What's #1 on the list?
  Sun. 2/5/12 1:48am dinatekno:

Sorry to be late to the Gazzara/Cassavetes conversation - BUT...Husbands, Opening Night & Killing of a Chinese Bookie are my favs...I just came from a viewing party. Thanks for confirming my sense of real loss. And Jow, Thanks you for playing my 30 year crush - Lloyd COle. My night is sublimely melancholy.
  Sun. 2/5/12 1:49am dinatekno:

oops - Joe, NOT Jow...WHAT?!?!?!? NOW you are playing TRANSLATOR?!?!?! I LOVE you!
Avatar Sun. 2/5/12 1:51am Joe McG:

Hi, dinateko! Mixing up the melancholy, just for you!
Avatar Sun. 2/5/12 1:56am Joe McG:

@dina: Quiz for you: Do you know which Television song Lloyd Cole used to cover? Hint: It's the A side of the single I'm playing now.

  Sun. 2/5/12 2:16am T-Zero:

They were popular when I was in high school...
Avatar Sun. 2/5/12 2:24am Joe McG:

Really? Did you ever see 'em?
Sun. 2/5/12 2:27am Brian en Angleterre:

Helllo Joe, T-Zero et al. Who is al?
Eggs Over Easy, first Pub Rock band. American? Love the Chillis, great live.
Avatar Sun. 2/5/12 2:28am Joe McG:

Hey, Brian! Yes, EOE were Americans. Produced by Link Wray! Tell me about the Chillis!
  Sun. 2/5/12 2:28am T-Zero:

Never saw them, Joe. That was in Indiana at the time, and I lived in this little rural town then...
  Sun. 2/5/12 2:29am king penguin:

This Little While is a great song. Anyone else do it. Thanks.
  Sun. 2/5/12 2:29am T-Zero:

Mornin', Brian.
Avatar Sun. 2/5/12 2:31am Joe McG:

@king penguin: As far as I know, no one has had the immensely good taste to cover this song. Please correct me if someone knows differently.
  Sun. 2/5/12 2:32am king penguin:

I might correct you by covering it myself!
Avatar Sun. 2/5/12 2:33am Joe McG:

@KP: You should, man! Do it proud.
Sun. 2/5/12 2:34am Brian en Angleterre:

Saw them at the Roundhouse in '74 playing Zigzag fanzine 5thbirthday concert. John Stewart, Mike Nesmith, Man. You get the drift. Dare I say they were the English Band. Alright no one could sing like Danko or Manuel but they could just whistle thru songs in the same manner. They also had a great sense of fun, which as you know is priceless. Their first album is basically Martyn & Phil.
  Sun. 2/5/12 2:35am T-Zero:

Tim McGraw on Please Remember Me with Phil Vassar
Sun. 2/5/12 2:35am Brian en Angleterre:

You could tell how good they were from where they went after the band broke up. Costello, Residents etc.
Avatar Sun. 2/5/12 2:38am Joe McG:

Really jealous, Brian! Would've loved to see a bill like that! Wasn't Pete Thomas in Chilli Willi?
  Sun. 2/5/12 2:40am king penguin:

Talking about pub rock, it occurred to me other day Brinsley Schwarz came out when i was high school. That was, as the song goes, a long, long time ago.
Sun. 2/5/12 2:41am Brian en Angleterre:

Yea, he sat in with John Stewart who only brought over Arnie Moore on bass. John liked him so much thst he went to the US to tour with him soon after. Later he formed the Attractions.
  Sun. 2/5/12 2:42am T-Zero:

Or is Tim McGraw (Phil Vasar) something totally different from Ernie Graham?
Sun. 2/5/12 2:43am Brian en Angleterre:

Dandelion was John Peel's label!!
Sun. 2/5/12 2:45am Brian en Angleterre:

We need the shovels, Joe to dig out of the snow over here!!!!!
Avatar Sun. 2/5/12 2:46am Joe McG:

Thanks, Brian, got my Ds mixed up!
Avatar Sun. 2/5/12 2:47am Joe McG:

Really, snow? We haven't had hardly any at all this winter....
Sun. 2/5/12 2:50am Brian en Angleterre:

Yea, north of UK has already had plenty, we in the south had some last night. Main roads look clear. There can be up to 11C temp change from one day to the next. Wacky.
Sun. 2/5/12 2:51am Brian en Angleterre:

Who is playing the guitar on this Mac track, Joe?
Avatar Sun. 2/5/12 2:52am Joe McG:

Either Bob Welch or Danny Kirwan. I'm guessing Bob, but don't quote me!
Sun. 2/5/12 2:56am Brian en Angleterre:

You're trapped in the archive for eternity. Talking of which, must check out the Bulgarian sounds at the start of show later.
Avatar Sun. 2/5/12 2:58am Joe McG:

Thanks as always for tuning in, Brian. Thank you ALL for listening! Had a great time, as ever. Have a great week!
Sun. 2/5/12 2:58am Brian en Angleterre:

Ensign, The Boomtown Rats label? This is getting nerdy.
Sun. 2/5/12 3:00am Brian en Angleterre:

Good luck with the Marafun, Joe. Appreciate all the hard work.
Bye T-Zero.
  Sun. 2/5/12 3:01am T-Zero:

Stay safe and warm, Brian. Careful not to slip collecting eggs.
  Sun. 2/5/12 3:01am T-Zero:

Take care, Joe McG. Enjoyed the show as usual.
