Listener comments!

  9:08pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Hello Martha.
  9:09pm
BSI:

What it is!
  9:10pm
Martha:

Hello All!
  9:12pm
PB:

Is this the new Fleet Foxes release I've been hearing so much about?
  9:14pm
Martha:

It's the new Wold -
  9:15pm
PB:

Sounds like a post-apocalyptic wold.
  9:17pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Japanese Grindcore. Yeah.
  9:17pm
Martha:

Or at least a better produced one - not sure that is an improvement...
  9:18pm
Destroit:

Hello martha. PB, Richard et all.
  9:19pm
PB:

Hey Martha, Destroit, Richard and all other listeners.
  9:20pm
dave:

besides being a great track, that bathtub shitter thing is an amazing combination of artist/track/album/label name.
  9:20pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Hi Destroit and PB
  9:21pm
G:

Billy Preston this aint :-)
  9:21pm
PB:

Will it go round in circles?
  9:24pm
dave:

2012, having already produced "lulu" and the first proper van halen album in, what, 15 years? is off to a weird start.
  9:25pm
Martha:

I'm sorry - lulu - can you clarify?
  9:26pm
PB:

It's really sad that a founding member of the most important band in rock history lowers himself in his old age to working with such a crap band as Metallica.
  9:27pm
Martha:

OOPS - you mean Mr. Reed?
  9:28pm
dave:

yepyep, it's been a weird year for dinosaur rock bands already.
  9:28pm
PB:

Martha - yes. This "new" Alex Chilton stuff sounds pretty good.
  9:31pm
G:

@Martha: It's a lulu of a CD called Lulu, from Metallica with Lou Reed talkovers.
  9:32pm
glenn:

ooooopsy. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/world/americas/us-election/romneys-arizona-co-chair-steps-down-after-allegations-of-misconduct/article2343329/
  9:33pm
glenn:

ray davies is working with metallica?
  9:35pm
dave:

the thing is, i kinda would've figured the loutallica thing might be great in a weird sort of way and the reunited van halen would've been, well, terribad. shows what i know.
  9:38pm
Martha:

Yeah - but you've gotta admit that "old" people can surprise you - I suppose as well as disappoint...
  9:39pm
Destroit:

I like this.
  9:42pm
Marmalade Kitty:

Metallica aren't exactly teen bopers.. the total age of loutallica must be pushing 260ish
  9:42pm
dave:

definitely. that van halen track is an instance of the all-too-rare "surprise" case.
  9:43pm
PB:

True enough Martha, but for me the only band that even remotely maintained my interest over a multi-decades career was Sonic Youth (and even they had a really down period in the 90s).
  9:46pm
dave:

yo la tengo have held up pretty well for an awfully long time.
  9:47pm
Martha:

Now I'm going to have to think...though I agree w/ Sonic Youth -
  9:47pm
PB:

@dave, I totally agree. I spaced out on Yo La Tengo.
  9:48pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Pearl Jam in my case.
  9:48pm
glenn:

i'm gonna get whacked for this, but - blue rodeo.
  9:49pm
PB:

@glenn, that's the Canuck in you.
  9:50pm
dave:

sparks have held up pretty well.
  9:51pm
glenn:

i can't deny it.
  9:54pm
Marmalade Kitty:

the fall have been consistent
  9:55pm
Marmalade Kitty:

even if their members havent with the exception of MESmith
  9:55pm
PB:

Terry Malts is cool but they creeped me out with the cover picture of Manson on an earlier release. Full length comes out this week, I think.
  9:56pm
dave:

yeah, and the fall are an example of a band that manages to be consistently _surprisingly_ good. wire's another one, but they had a pretty long hiatus there.
  9:56pm
glenn:

and mark e smith seems to have some good luck with the cute musicians / wives.
  9:59pm
PB:

Bob Mould with Husker, Sugar and solo.
  9:59pm
Marmalade Kitty:

clean dirty shirt wardrobe chic
  10:00pm
PB:

@Martha, this is a great set. Postponing walking the dog until it's over.
  10:04pm
Martha:

w/rt Terry Malts: yes, why do people still use that shite? -but awesome pop there - which you all know I love - esp. the powerish pop thing -
  10:07pm
dave:

wow, i love this foust! thing. it's like spacemen 3 boiled down to the component parts.
  10:25pm
Destroit:

All Ears Martha, still a big xo to Marmalade.
  10:35pm
Martha:

Hey all - thanks for checking in w/the info, good words, etc. - v. much appreciated!
  10:36pm
Martha:

Always appreciate the interaction b/c I learn so much -
  10:41pm
PB:

The comments board is a great feature. I always learn a lot from the other listeners and from the hosts. I do fill-ins at another tri-state area listener-supported station and we don't have sophisticated features like comments boards, pop-up players and real-time playlists.
  10:57pm
Martha:

I am glad that you find it helpful - as a host I definitely do, for many reasons - and thanks again for checking in - everyone -
  11:07pm
dc pat:

Wow, what's the deal with drosofile? Great sound
  11:13pm
dave:

this brobdingnagian is great!
  11:16pm
Martha:

Drosofile=French, awesome; Brob.=???, awesome.
  11:17pm
dave:

i don't have a huge big problem with people pirating music, but it's annoying as hell when i hit google for a band i'm interested in and the only thing i find is links to mediafire and other locker sites. well, that and WFMU playlists.
  11:19pm
dave:

owait, the thing i thought was a pirate link for brobdingnagian is actually from the band itself. score!

  11:32pm
dave:

ooh. die doraus & die marinas! "fred von jupiter" is one of my favorite songs ever, but this one's damn good too.
  12:01am
Martha:

Hello everyone - thanks for checking in - if you get a chance and have the means - please give a pledge if you can of whatever you feel comfortable with - thanks for supporting WFMU freeform - and have a great week!
  12:01am
D in Miami:

Great Astro/Hiroshi track! Too bad I'm just tuning in.
