We're Desperate: The Punk Rock Photography of
Jim Jocoy, SF/LA 1978-1980

From Powerhouse Books: 1977: Punk rock music and fashion blew out of New York City, exploded in London, and caught like wildfire in San Francisco, Los Angeles and the world over. It developed concurrently everywhere, and every region had it's own identity. But it was in San Francisco and L.A. where the most radical behavior in stateside punk rock style and attitude was exhibited. It was anti-hippie, anti-disco, anti-parent and anti-"nice". And it was shockingly new. These photos are ground zero of punk rock style—delirious innovation and a snarling takeover of youth culture still resonating more than 20 years hence!

HOURLY PRIZE #3!
To be given away at 6 pm

WILD FLAG LP sleeve prop from the "Romance" video plus Wild Flag CD.

A prop fake LP that was created solely for the "Romance" video. The record wasn't out yet so the video's producers had to make one. Only 5 in existence!! AND it's autographed by the entire band! Plus you get a CD copy of Wild Flag's debut album.

Many, many more prizes will be given away throughout the show for a minimum pledge of $15 OR MORE!!!

  5:29pm Robert:

I was in the bathroom when you brought up the origin of this "mouse pledge" business, so now I'll give the story as I remember it from the time. Ken has probably already corrected me on this and I've probably forgotten the corrections.

It started when WFMU needed to move from the actual former house that housed it at Uppsala College to its current studio location. You solicited pledges at that time for House of Tomorrow.

Once you moved, you started soliciting for the eventual Internet streaming of your programs. The name adopted (in accord with the computer console pointing instruments as Mr. Davies indicated) was Mouse of Tomorrow. Whether this was also in deliberate imitation of the episode name of the first Super Mouse (now Mighty Mouse) cartoon, I don't know, but it was certainly in imitation of House of Tomorrow. Once streaming became a reality, of course it became Mouse of Today.

I have a 16mm Castle Films silent with intertitles print of "Mouse of Tomorrow".
  5:31pm lurker:

& there was also a 'house of today' i remember
5:32pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

EFD, the card was supposed to point out the fact that one who loves WFMU like I do would yell "NOOOOOOOO!" after the gruesome cherry-flavored Pcuck ad, but.....;-) Miscommunication. I love Terre T's show! Get sick at the thought of further ad creep. Yecccchhhh
Avatar 5:32pm Kenzo:

I think it was "House of Tomorrow," then after the move it was "House of Today," and then came "Mouse of Today" to support the growing online operations. I might be corrected, too!
  5:36pm Robert:

Upsala might've helped me get a teaching gig. I lied on my application by saying, a few yrs. after it'd closed, that I'd taught a course at Upsala -- which was plausible when I was a post-doc at UMDNJ just up the road in Newark.
  5:39pm Robert:

Shows how even a down economy with places closing can help some people get a job!
Avatar 5:39pm Kenzo (ken's last ever):

Maybe it'll become Touch of Today pledge now that mice are going out of style.
5:39pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

EFD is the mayor of the live band room.
  5:40pm Robert:

YES!! I'm using a touch pad, and you're putting the touch on listeners for money.
  5:42pm Robert:

Kenzo, is WF dog ready to wag today? And if a show goes 25% over goal, can you make MU cow hop up & down?
Avatar 5:43pm Kenzo (ken's last ever):

doggy no wag today
Avatar 5:44pm Kenzo (ken's last ever):

Pledge now for the Wag of Tomorrow campaign
5:46pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

Ya, Terre T, hold the pledge deadbeats hostage! :-) WFMU deserves it allllllllllllllllll. 1-800-989-9368 or wfmu.org
  5:46pm Robert:

When it does, is it an animated GIF? Or do you do something complicated like calling a series of inline frames alternately?
5:48pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

Fun fact: I've seen Janet Weiss at around 98% of Thee Oh Sees shows in Portland, Oregon over the past four years. She knows a wildly good time when it comes down the road.
5:50pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

Pledge, nice pledgers, pledge with us! xoxo.
  6:05pm Skirkie:

Way to go Vito.
  6:05pm Caryn:

Yay! 100 %
6:09pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

Congrats pledgers/winners!
