Alf from Upstate:

Still the most thrilling open theme in the biz. Welcome back, Destination Out!
  12:02pm
listener james from westwood:

good monday to all the lovable losers out there!
  12:04pm
Carmichael:

Hi Guys, 1st time caller, 1st time listener. Sun Ra's a pretty decent start, I must say.

Doug S.:

You say Tatas-MAYtoes, I say Tatas-MAHtoes, let's call the whole thing OUT!

Thanks, Alf! Great to be back...with you!
Happy Monday to you LJFW, welcome Carmichael.
And hope the quiet start doesn't put you off, Andy.

YES. So smooth it melts in your mouth...AND in your hands.

This one's our "edutainment" show.
  12:18pm
listener james from westwood:

It's exceptional with headphones on.

Dervish:

I have such a love/hate thing going with ECM. Every time they drop an Eberhard Weber on my head, I wake up to Afternoon of a Georgia Faun or Nice Guys.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm
Jeff G:

@Dervish: yeah, we're with you there. There's something so precious about it all, but then some of the music is just amazing.
  12:28pm
Doug S.:

I think Paul Motian would have a good chuckle over your (spot-on) choice of the word "precious."

Torn and Zorn. Can Taborn be far behind?
  1:08pm
Doug S.:

Produced by Joel Dorn?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm

Dan, we lumped Taborn in with the Torn this time. Two-for-one deal.

listener james from westwood:

this music made writing an 800-word "how the hell do i do this assignment?" memo a lot easier and less anxiety-fraught. (i wish i could bill for the 800 words, but i'm not that lucky.)

@emmagineering IS #101!

I realize that your own personal satisfaction is more meaningful than a gift of even great monetary value. So we'll leave it at that.

Congrats!

Out on Rune Grammofon: Scorch Trio with Mars Williams - Made in Norway. A scorcher with some tender moments. I was there on the second half of the record - in the audience.

WFMU is currently locked in a tight battle with WOBC from Oberlin College in a competition to reach the next round in the PUBLIC RADIO MADNESS competition. The "top 64" North American public and community radio stations have been entered into a March Madness NCAA-style battle to determine the #1 station.

To "vote" for a station, you have to log in to the site and listen to the station's stream. Each voter can listen for up to 90 minutes per day. (Only one listen per person.)

WFMU has made it to the second round, but is pitched in a tough battle against a scrappy opponent.

1> Go to the site: http://soundtap.com/madness

2> Follow the easy steps to log in

3> Click on WFMU to listen to the stream for 90 minutes, every day for through April 1

4> Jump up and down and up again, wildly in your own personal victory dance when WFMU is crowned champ.

(Of course, do this AFTER Destination Out Radio is finished at 3pm.)

Hugo:

Raoul Björkenheim - also in the Scorch Trio - has a new one on Cuneiform - just saying ...
  2:20pm
Doug S.:

Despite the fact that I got my start on WOBC back in 1979, I want you to help WFMU squish 'em like a bug.
  2:29pm
Hugo:

I think of WFMU as an oasis of sanity. But then, I could be mad for saying so.

BRAXTON BOOTLEG LINK: tricentricfoundation.org...

More legit Braxton boots than you can shake a long horn at, all for the price of on the house.
  2:42pm
Doug S.:

Braxton came to Oberlin in March of '81 or maybe it was '82. I interviewed him for (the aforementioned) WOBC. I called him up to set up the interview and he was a bit hurried on the phone because he wanted to get back to watching the NCAA college basketball tournament. For the record, he was rooting for Georgetown.
  2:44pm
Hugo:

Was this Braxton comp out on a legit record? There is something familiar about it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm
Jeff G:

Not sure, Hugo. Maybe you just really know the Braxton book very well! (The 23 series in particular...)
  2:51pm
Hugo:

Centrifuge, who runs a Braxton blog, would know.
