Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

That's it for another episode of The Dusty Show. I hope you enjoyed it. I appreciate the support you have shown and the encouragement to continue with Occupy coverage. Not every week is as visceral as some that preceded it, yet it would seem worth documenting and I am priviliged to do it when I can.

As I'm typing this it is 2:41am on Wednesday, April 4th, 2012. These playlists take a long time to complete. I try to keep up each week, but it is difficult sometimes. Tomorrow begins the production of another episode, and so it goes, week-after-week.

Just so you know, I'll be filling in for Fabio on April 12th from 3-6pm EDT, so they'll be 4-hours of Dusty that day. Too much? Maybe! Looking forward to playing some music and taking some calls. Until next time, keep Occupying and take care.

Always remember ...

Caryn:

Hi all!
That "arrested for sleeping at McD" story is making me nervous, since that's probably what I'm gonna be doing this weekend. Going out of town to listen to a concert and need to stay awake through the night at some fast food place until morning, when I can catch my train.
  6:12pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Caryn: If it's open all night, and you buy something, they should oblige.

@glenn: possible, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm still kinda hoping that FvH will decide to come to the concert too. That way there'll be someone to hang with.

I want to hear the Funky Flea Market show!
  6:22pm
Caryn:

Today's music clips clearly have a more funk & soul thing going on.
  6:22pm
Matt from Springfield:

Actually contrary to popular beliefs, Union Square has nothing to do with the unions nor The Union during the Civil War--it was formed at the "union" of Broadway and the Bowery:

  6:22pm
Terry in New Baltimore:

This is some of the best reporting I have heard on the occupy movement - with music too! Keep it up. I wish everyone could hear the voice of "the common man (or woman)" as you are bringing it.
  6:23pm
Matt from Springfield:

Now, it just so happens that in the late 19th and early 20th century, the labor union rallies DID in fact assemble in Union Square frequently, but that probably had more to do with location than symbolism.
  6:24pm
Matt from Springfield:

And Clay interviews!! Before Occupy most of his interviews in Manhattan seem to have been in and around Union Square.
  6:25pm
Terry in New Baltimore:

Matt - is it true that Zuccoti park was originally an Italian menagerie where the animals had to sleep on cots?
  6:25pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hi Terry!
Clay was on the ground reporting OWS from its earliest days: check out the Archives on the Dusty Show with Clay Pigeon playlists link. And he has a bunch of other awesome shows as well.
  6:26pm
Fredericks:

Your Occupy coverage inspired me to visit Occupy Madison. Much quieter than New York. The police are a lot mellower there too.
  6:26pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Terry: In response to your question, that's another common misconception. Actually it was where "zucchini" was cooked "hot" and sold to passerby :)
  6:27pm

  6:37pm

Sheesh, Santorum certainly makes me want to vomit way more than his totally warped JFK quotes do. You'd think he'd try not to badmouth the only Catholic president the US has ever had, but no.
  6:39pm
Matt from Springfield:

Did you ask that guy what he believes was done "in the past" by OWS? To ferret out how much of what he heard was rumor and hearsay?

Clay, your show has been adding an extra new dimension to WFMU over these past months. (Plus the years before, also great.) You have been doing really, really valuable work. I've listened to and supported 'FMU since about 1986. My modest $50 pledge this year was during Dusty. To me, what you've been doing, in focusing on Occupy, is both just so true to the spirit of the station, PLUS it's a very valuable addition to other journalism about OWS (D/N; Colin Moynihan) --SO DON'T STOP
