  12:04pm Cecile:

wow, this is actually pretty smoking from JSBX.
  12:05pm Cecile:

joe, you got anything from The Left?
  12:05pm dan elektro:

Hey Joe, we rockin' the Monte at Queen City Cycles in Tuscaloosa, Bamalama!
  12:05pm PFFlyer:

I apologize for not taking care of my pledge yet, although I promise to take care of it today. My lameass excuse: I've been in remote Amish country where there isn't any internet connection, working on the drag Plymouth. Forgiveness is necessary for me to rock on!
  12:06pm fishmonkeystew:

I agree, Cecile.
  12:12pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Hello to all in Belockland from sunny & shiny Jamaica Bay!
  12:14pm SmokinJ:

Howdy Joe & r&r's everywhere..
  12:16pm geokopp:

  12:16pm Fiveash:

Hi Joe! Amanda sez hi too.
  12:17pm Woo:

Greetings to all from Chicago.
Avatar 12:18pm Joe B:

Hi Cecile! hey Dan! PFFlyer!, FMS, kevin, J, George, Matt, GK, Woo! amanda!
Avatar 12:19pm Joe B:

Dan, Alabama cats on the show next week - the Glory Fires!
  12:22pm Fiveash:

You can tell Dion's from the Bronx by the way he pronounces "radiator".
  12:23pm mrmucho:

one of the most notorious NY songs
Avatar 12:25pm Joe B:

if by notorious, you mean greatest, then we agree!
  12:25pm mrmucho:

i'm quite fond of it
  12:27pm Cecile:

makes me hungry.
  12:28pm dan elektro:

Yeah, Joe, them Glory Fires be righteous! They just played here recently--give 'em my regards!
  12:29pm KevinfromBayRidge:

@Cecile, betcha thinkin' of eggs after Trouble's board!
  12:30pm John L:

I thought he was singing about Tebow.
  12:30pm Cecile:

yeah, steak and eggs.
  12:31pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Steak & eggs, that is!
  12:32pm Cecile:

you mean HATED. I do like it.
  12:32pm geokopp:

still have my vinyl re-ac-tor.
  12:32pm John L:

Southern Pacific is one of my favorite Neil tunes.
  12:40pm Cheri Pi:

Are we still talking about eggs? lol
  12:41pm Mike Sin:

... is happy to be tuning in live!
Avatar 12:44pm Joe B:

Hi Cheri and Mike! thanks everybody for tuning in!
  12:45pm John James Audubon:

Urge Overkill ... they had such a moment. Weren't they in some Tatantino movie (a song, I mean). Chicago band, if I'm not mistaken. Great show, Joe!
  12:46pm PFFlyer:

ahhh, spring, baseball, great music to play in the shop...what a combo. Caps off to the Baseball Project for the Mr. October nod.....the season is Young! (<---pun intended...I shoulda' been a writer like Larry Batson.
  12:47pm rubble:

Urge covered 'girl, you'll be a woman soon' in pulp fiction, john
  12:48pm PFFlyer:

just when ya' think you can step out to kill yourself w/ another cigarette, another great tune comes on. Thanks to Joe, I'll live another day...
  12:48pm Mike East:

Bill Kelly played a band called Cheap Perfume last Sunday. We really dug it around my house. Bare Wires sounds good to me today.
  12:49pm John James Audubon:

@rubble - ahh, yes! the gary puckett cover.

Here's an intersting Japanese robot wrestling clip.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrSSpoX-bcE&feature=related
Avatar 12:50pm Joe B:

Hi Mike, yeah, Cheap Perfume were on the Max's/CBGB circuit circa 1979-81 I think and recently reunited. very cool stuff. Mrs. Richard X Heyman is the bassist or one of the guitarists!
  12:58pm Mike East:

Nice. He put them on around the time when my wife was getting tired of my radio and ready to put the TV on. Cheap Perfume came on and she asked who it was. I told her we'd have to wait for Mr. Kelly to back announce since he doesn't do a live playlist. I bought myself a extra half a set of music with that.
  1:00pm John James Audubon:

What percentage of robin's nests produce a successful hatching of young robin's?
A. 20
B. 40
C. 60
D. 80
  1:02pm Mike East:

A!
  1:02pm Cheri Pi:

this is a crusher!
  1:02pm PFFlyer:

@JJA...I'm thinking "D", based upon my observances out at the ol' hobby hide-out. However, I'll venture a guess based upon seen be-headed woodpeckers that other species are much lower in the survival game.
  1:03pm efd:

JJ Audobon, I don't know the answer to that but I DO know that "Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon" was by Neil Diamond, not Gary Puckett. Although lyrically speaking it is very similar to most of Gary Puckett's material.
  1:03pm John James Audubon:

That last robin's should be robins, I guess.
Answer - B
Nice try, Mike and PFFlyer!
  1:04pm Cecile:

yeah, Gary Puckett, the patron saint of "barely legal"
  1:05pm efd:

--sorry, AudUbon.

And agreed on this Night Beats! I somehow totally missed this last year. Great show, Joe, as always!
  1:05pm John James Audubon:

@Evan. I couldn't be more embarrassed. You are so right. It does sound like it could have been a Puckett song. The one I like best, which is little-played, was "Don't Give In To Him.' A great song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aD9wRg1cRiM
  1:08pm PFFlyer:

@efd...you lookin' at my FB, YOU LOOKIN' AT MY FB!!! (Sorry, just trying to B Jersey-like). Can't argue w/ your factoid, 'cept, which version do you prefer? Me, I prefer wooo-man!, not girly-girls!
Avatar 1:09pm Joe B:

thanks efd! tough to keep up with all the great releases on Trouble in Mind! There is also a great 4-track 7-inch in the library somewhere!
Avatar 1:09pm Joe B:

PFFlyer, you talkin' to me? I don't see anyone else here!
  1:10pm PFFlyer:

mustv'e been the voices in my head, as supplied by WFMU!
  1:12pm Robin:

You didn't know what you were looking for ... 'til you heard the voices in your ear.

  1:13pm efd:

@JJ Audubon (and Cecile, and alla youse really), you may enjoy this exploration of the Gary Puckett oeuvre by my pal Dan Epstein: http://j.mp/garyPuckett
  1:15pm Nantucket Sleighride:

Thanks for the Puckett info EFD. Here's some upcoming Gary tour dates!
Sat 4/14/12 Larchwood, IA Grand Falls Casino

  1:19pm PFFlyer:

the Shjips freed my mind from the ongoing.....
  1:20pm Braveness23:

Me too!
  1:23pm PFFlyer:

nice blend into get..get GETTIN ON! via the Jay Walker Effort! WOW! Talk about a pull back to reality! Melt the Mich-E-GO-Nee sound!
  1:31pm PFFlyer:

@ "The Barons" psych FLA, from back in the day....guessin' very late sixties when I passed thru Pensacola after the hurricane as a mere child, listening to the AM blast of local wanna'-bees. Ships flipped over in Mobile bay, AL, can see and hear it all even thou I'm a geezer now.
  1:41pm PFFlyer:

just figured out it was '69, Camille...didn't blow the town down....just washed it up via the surge. If you ever lived on the sun coast side, you know that is more damaging than the wind, right?
  1:47pm PFFlyer:

http://www.local15tv.com/mostpopular/story/Hurricane-Camille-41-Years-Ago-Today/p2UMrHJl3020AOzDLXg1Nw.cspx anyway, 'nuff said, 'bout FL late sixties sound and the events that may have inspired a few or caused many to run like hell!
  1:47pm dinatekno:

'If I Had Let You In' sounds very similar to 'Walk Away Renee'.
  1:48pm SmokinJ:

GO DAVY!
  1:48pm Mike East:

I heard that too, danatekno.
Avatar 1:49pm Joe B:

just thinking same thing about Walk Away Renee
  1:49pm Mike East:

sorry, dInatekno
  1:59pm rubble:

Davy trib show sounds interesting! Here's a little known fact...Audobon personally hunted and killed and had taxidermied every single bird he painted.
  2:01pm David Shortell:

That Davy Jones track was the theme song to the 1971 film version of the Neil Simon play "Star Spangled Girl".
  2:02pm dinatekno:

I wonder if they were realeased around the same time...Gotta hit up the google!
  2:02pm Budge:

I live for the sun. Who did that one? I don't have access to a computer.
  2:02pm Anna Anabolic:

Hey Joe, can you announce that the music blog ONE CHORD PROGRESSION is giving away a pair of tickets to Muck and the Mires, The Liza Colby Sound and Party Lights Friday 4/13 @ Union Hall? To enter, all you have to do is 'like' us on Facebook (Facebook.com/onechordprogression) and write something awesome on our wall...winner will be picked at random Friday. Thanks SO much!!
  2:04pm KevinWho:

yes! "1st" is an awesome album, methinks
  2:05pm PFFlyer:

@Budge, "The Sunrays"? Kinda' like the old shopping mall just down the road from me...it just keeps hangin' on!
  2:06pm Woo:

I Live For the Sun by the Sunrays, produced by Murry Wilson I believe. Love that song!
  2:06pm KevinWho:

although you'll have to play several 1-chord songs to average-out "Turn Of The Century" ....
  2:07pm Braveness23:

I had totally forgotten that the Bee Gee's weren't always disco
  2:08pm AL3X:

Wow, I didn't know the Bee Gees actually made good music.
  2:09pm Budge:

Thanks PFF and Woo. Love that song. Keeps running through my brain today in pointed lady's Kedsā„¢.
  2:09pm KevinWho:

@AL3X:

Oh my yes. I recommend everything up through Main Course, at least give it a listen
  2:10pm Moserite:

Hey Joe, who besides Sedaka and possibly Mickey and Peter are supposed to be playing the Jones tribute tonight?
  2:11pm PFFlyer:

@ya' all, including a special thanx to Budge, I had forgotten that one, although I needed it right now! I know you don't have computer, but if you ever do, it's on my FB timeline, Paul Futcher. Now, go get an updated computer, dammit! ( or a new techie 2 help you!).
  2:12pm KP:

Is this a false alarm?
  2:12pm kat330:

Hiya, Joe B. & kind listeners! Outdoors w/FMU is the best of both worlds, and thanks a sunny bunch for the fun soundtrack!
  2:13pm Parq:

Elvis covering the Bee Gees? Dang, Joe, you mad genius.
  2:13pm Mike East:

I watched the Sgt. Pepper Movie last week. Such a piece of crap - but so much potential. I don't know how they got five minutes into shooting that without someone reading the script and asking, "Are we sure this is what we're going with?"
  2:14pm Tupelonia:

Thanks for playing the king, Joe.
  2:14pm KevinWho:

it's the Mail, but

  2:15pm Hi:

Al Green did a beautiful, How Can You Mend A Broken Heart, as I recall.
  2:16pm drr:

should have known this was the motogators...listening in La.!
  2:17pm John L:

Really nice version of "To Love Somebody"!!! Picked up the Bee Gees box that has the first 3 cds and alot of extras. Worth every penny.
  2:17pm Parq:

Mike East, if you're old enough to remember the 70s, you probably don't really need to wonder about that.
  2:17pm RSO:

I wonder if young Andy would have stepped in to full-time BeeGeehood, had he not passed away?
  2:18pm KevinWho:

Andy was the Ringo of that bunch ....
Avatar 2:19pm Joe B:

the entire Motogators Cd is great, they are even better live! they do a killer version of Suspicion!
  2:19pm RSO:

The Jimmy Osmond ...
Avatar 2:19pm Joe B:

easy kevin! fightin words there!
  2:20pm Mike East:

ah. Just missed it, Parq. KevinWho - don't tell that to my sisters. We had more Andy Gibb records than Beegees, for sure.
  2:21pm PFFlyer:

@East, yeah, yeah YEAH!! It was all about the promotion, baby, yeah? Dig it! Minds like mine had already been exploided, x-ploded, manipulated by the Mad-men! I'd buy it all back then, even the crapola movie which paled by comparision to the righteous "Hard Days Night". @ my friend JB, thank for the awesome surf.
  2:21pm KevinWho:

yes, Joe B, a cheap laugh at the great Ringo's expense. I will slouch my way to the penalty box!
  2:22pm dc pat:

must chime in hear and echo Joe B: don't. mess. with. Ringo.
  2:22pm geokopp:

@kat330: hey, my maxwell show photos are now all in one gallery on georgekopp.com. Click on big pic of the Gories on home page. And yes, it's actually workin this time!!
  2:22pm dc pat:

ok.
Avatar 2:23pm Joe B:

or andy gibb. to compare him to jimmy osmond is not even close to fair. a great singer
  2:24pm KevinWho:

my guess is you'll never have to play a eulogy block for Ringo. I predict he will outlive all of us. like Eubie Blake, they will be rolling him onto award-show stages when he's 110 or so ...
  2:25pm paula pc:

@ George what a great pic of The Gories! Thank you!
  2:27pm geokopp:

Thanks Paula!
  2:28pm David Shortell:

Is the Sgt. Pepper movie a worse abomination than the recent "Across the Universe"? Tough call!
  2:29pm PFFlyer:

you know that neighbor that fire up his god-4-saken Lawn Boy lawnmower, smoke and all, at 7:00 a.m., the ONLY day you finally get to sleep in? And you know how he mows his grass two to three times a week, even though his grass is shorter than a golf course in Augusta GA? I'm not gonna' compete against insanity, I'm just going to look forward to Los Vigilantes and all the rest...next week, on the Belock network of freinds! Thanks all for putting up w/ my color commentary and all your input! Now, kit up and go Plymouth ROCK!
  2:29pm kat330:

@Geokopp: Mollusk! [a word we decided to have the meaning of "cool!"] I will definitely check it out. While listening to Joe B. speak, I was feeding Rufus (or Angus) the squirrel some pine nuts. This is SO mollusk.
Avatar 2:30pm Joe B:

David, across the universe is worse, by a mile!
  2:30pm RSO:

I agree, Joe. Andy was no Jimmy. Just speaking in a family heirachical sense. I'm an Andy fan. Especially, "(Our Love) Don't Throw It All Away." Marvelous.
  2:31pm drr:

The King Of The Glasses?
  2:32pm KevinWho:

to paraphrase Jeff Altman, compaing Andy Gibb to the Bee Gees is like comparing throwing a bullet to shooting one!
  2:33pm MM:

Altman ... was he Helen Reddy's husband? And whatever happened to Sean Bonniwell anyway?
Avatar 2:34pm Joe B:

no need to compare them
  2:34pm seang:

ANDRE
  2:35pm kat330:

@geokopp: A nice assortment indeed! Was your show a roaring success I trust? [I may have squirrels outside, but I really need a mouse -- keep losing my cursor.]
  2:35pm Shepherd:

Obey
  2:35pm dc pat:

Bonniwell kicked the bucket man..
  2:36pm paula pc:

this new Andre Williams record is great!!
  2:36pm MM:

Bummer about Bonniwell. I like Music Machine.
  2:37pm dc pat:

Whoa, haven't heard this Tom Jones yet....
  2:38pm Omaha:

The Rumbles (Mercury Records) did a cool garage-y cover of Jezebel ... and of course, Frankie Laine.
  2:38pm drr:

You're kidding with this Tom Jones, right?
  2:39pm Mike East:

Billy Kelly played Jezebel on Sunday! Another connection.
Avatar 2:39pm Joe B:

and the Woggles!
  2:39pm Parq:

"Jezabel -- and Lolita -- and Betty Crocker --"

  2:39pm Andrew Waterloo:

@drr, it is Tom Jones on Third Man
Avatar 2:40pm Joe B:

kidding? not punk rock enough?
  2:40pm geokopp:

@kat: yeah, fun opening, nice turn-out, I got drunk. A regular dylan thomas moment. No sales so far though.
  2:41pm dc pat:

That Tom Jones was excellent. Women still throw underwear at him?
  2:41pm kat330:

The Tina and Ike -- wow! :)
  2:41pm Quizabelle:

Tom Jones is ...
A. 5'-2"
B 5'-8"
C. 5'-10"
D. 6'-1"
  2:41pm KevinWho:

that John and Exene is terrific, new (version) to me
  2:42pm KevinWho:

still, DJ was the Ringo of X. :D
  2:42pm Cecile:

Jones is 5'2"
  2:43pm SHIMMY:

dang it, tuned in too late to catch the cover of to love somebody. gotta search the house to see if i actually have the moto gators cd or not.
  2:43pm Quizabelle:

Correct Cecile!
Avatar 2:43pm Joe B:

I saw Tom Jones about 5 years ago, he totally kicked ass. one of the better shows I've seen, ever
  2:44pm allan:

"there are 7 kinds of coke and 500 kinds of cigarettes". i had to write that down
  2:44pm Mike East:

I'll bet, Joe B. He seems like a real showman.
  2:44pm Cecile:

andy gibb didn't have the material of his bros, but he had great pipes. He just suffered for being in their shadow.
  2:45pm Pemby:

I miss New Cokeā„¢.
  2:45pm still b/p:

Davy Jones was an inch taller than Tom Jones??! Naaaah! No, no.
  2:46pm efd:

"Incinerate, Incinerate!" Summer jam of 2012!
  2:46pm Bundt:

I think ANdy never got over Victoria Principal.
  2:46pm Cecile:

He has that what I call "short guy magnetism."

I can only imagine his show, joe.
  2:46pm dc pat:

how tall is Iggy? He's not really 5'1" is he? I know he's short, I stood next to him once...
  2:47pm Quizabelle:

Correction. The answer is D - 5'10". Cecile still gets the home version of the TCM game.
  2:47pm Cecile:

Bundt, that too.
She tried to get him clean, and he couldn't do it.
  2:47pm drr:

I walked away from my headphones...that Tom Jones was too painful.
  2:47pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Saw Tom at Westbury circa early 80s. He was great but the middle age (at the time) Nassau County ladies really made the show with the flinging panties!

Sgt Pepper is hilarious camp- intent notwithstanding, and boasts some good by the Brothers and earth/wind/fire. Across the Universe has zero redeeming qualities.
  2:48pm Cecile:

well, he's not super tall. LOL!
  2:48pm KevinWho:

@Bundt: which of us *has* gotten over Victoria Principal???
  2:49pm Vince:

I liked Alice Cooper in the Sgt. Pep movie.
  2:49pm Bundt:

@Kevin True
  2:49pm Mike East:

@rubble - Sgt. Pepper had Billy Preston, too. I thought his part was great.
  2:50pm Bundt:

Who are your taller music stars ... Mick Fleetwood?
  2:50pm Parq:

All this talk of flinging panties brings to mind a Rolling Stone piece from the early 70s about Slade. At their shows, they would scream "Give us your knickers!" Their home fans would enthusiastically comply, but American women didn't get it, and the show would be lucky to get one brassiere. The Stone's headline? "Knickers and Rahs in the UK; Snickers and a Bra in the US".
  2:50pm KevinWho:

Robbie Fulks! Ray Benson!
  2:50pm Bundt:

Grace Jones

Re: Tom Jones
I think Tom Jones' most recent gospel-y material is quite fascinating and powerful. I'm guessing he hooked up with a producer who was more keen on focusing on Jones' strengths instead of his perceived audience.

re: Jezebel
I was always impressed with this live version by some kids:

Great delivery.
  2:51pm KevinWho:

Beth Orton!
  2:51pm Mike East:

Antony Hegerty is pretty huge.
  2:51pm Cecile:

I actually saw Sgt Pepper in the theatre.
Full price ($2). I blanked most of it out. It was stupid.

Nels Cline and Thurston Moore are really tall. All the Killers are tall. The Volcano Suns were all tall, and so was Mission of Burma.
  2:51pm Bundt:

Peter Steele
  2:52pm Viv:

Stanshall
  2:52pm Cecile:

Mike Sin, I have to say that I'm not a fan of Jones's stripped down stuff. His voice is so big it needs something to counter it.
  2:52pm KevinWho:

I think we have a b-ball team developing here
  2:53pm Bundt:

Antony is big - and great. Marcia Ball is probably 6' 8"
  2:53pm Mudcat:

Lydia Loveless is a gem. Another great artist you've turned me onto!
  2:53pm Cecile:

drummer from feedtime is tall.
  2:53pm Cecile:

RuPaul.
  2:54pm Cecile:

Sylvester could have been an offensive lineman if he wanted.
  2:54pm Cecile:

Charlie Pickett was tall.
  2:54pm Bumper:

Grace Jones 6' 9"
  2:55pm rubble:

if u ever get to see Tom Jones in a club setting especially, go. Top flight band and he sounds better live than he ever has on a recording. And no, it wouldn't be a tom Jones concert if the stage wasn't littered with skivvies. Thankfully it's just shtick now- so people buy them just to bring and throw :)
  2:55pm Cecile:

Ric Ocasek, Daryl Hall.
  2:55pm seang:

get well Slim Dunlap too
Avatar 2:55pm Joe B:

tallest bands I've had on - tie between the Sadies and Swingin Neckbreakers
  2:56pm Artie:

Lydia Loveless turned down a contract to play center for the Knicks, then committing herself to her music.
  2:56pm 28IF:

Paul McCartney 6' 0" in his bare feet.
  2:56pm KevinWho:

Lydia Loveless---tiny but awesome!

  2:57pm Clem:

Bob Dylan is pushing 6' 5"
  2:59pm Jeffry:

  2:59pm Cecile:

  2:59pm Bundt:

Marcia Ball is not 6' 8"
  2:59pm KevinWho:
