Listener comments!

  3:01pm
Carmichael:

Yes I can.
  3:01pm
earwax:

I hope to hear a monkey playing an accordion on this show.
  3:01pm
Matt from Springfield:

Nice painting.
  3:05pm
kat330:

Mmm, a nice pumpkin playlist. Hi, IRWIN!
  3:07pm
Matt from Springfield:

Allspice-surfing tokenism.

YES! Syd Barrett, by way of the wonderful Amy Annelle!
(Julie, where are ya?!)
  3:08pm
kat330:

Considering the quality of a frog's vocal tones, that monkey must have one terrible singing voice to make Mr. Froggy disapprove.
  3:09pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

Oh, well, frogs may not sing nicely but they still might have decent taste.
  3:10pm
Matt from Springfield:

Lovely little melody...subliminal message is telling me to get coffee...
  3:10pm
kat330:

Reminds me of some earlier playlist discussion about kid's shows and creepouts. Froggy on Buster Brown seriously creeped me out as a toddler.
  3:12pm
Marmalade Kitty:

afternoon/evening, Irwin! listeners!
  3:13pm
kat330:

You're across the pond, yes, MK?
  3:16pm
Matt from Springfield:

Kitty! Nice to see you here!
(Did you catch the Syd cover at the beginning?)
  3:19pm
rrg:

Stuck in dead-stop traffic on the Saw Mill Parkway.

My problem, not yours.
  3:23pm
Marmalade Kitty:

Hi! Yes over here in uk, Kat! Nice cover, Matt!
  3:24pm
Husband:

"WFMU: Just like your wife, we fake it for you, because we love you. And because you give us money."
  3:24pm
kat330:

That explains the time delay then! ;) Are you folks having spring weather yet?
  3:25pm
Matt from Springfield:

@MK: Amy Annelle is great in general--there's a great live set on Irwin's archives from 2009. Free Music Archive tracks as well.
  3:26pm
kat330:

@Husband: Don't foist Irwin's fraud on female spouses -- or generalize to all spice. (How's that, Matt?)
  3:29pm
Electric Cowbell:

that Morning Benders killed!
  3:32pm
Marmalade Kitty:

Kat, we experienced 3rd warmest March on record, nice..! Now it's April, the weather has turned; freezing! High winds, frost and sleet tonight, nasty! my poor seedlings are suffering.. decimated!
  3:33pm
Marmalade Kitty:

thanks Matt, I'll check it out!
  3:34pm
Otis:

thanks for lorette velvette! Great with kropotkins, Tav falco Panther burns, solo, with alex Chilton and Hellcats from Memphs. Forgotten.
  3:35pm
Matt from Springfield:

@kat: "Mmm, a nice pumpkin playlist" -- just made me think of pumpkin pie :)
  3:36pm
Electric Cowbell:

where's this Big Sugar coming from? killer guitar.
  3:39pm
kat330:

I am REALLY enjoying this guitar, IRWIN. There was a moment very reminiscent of a Jeff Buckley piece in there.
  3:41pm
kat330:

@MK: Just wondered since my husband will be coming through there in a few short weeks.
  3:42pm
me:

what time is it?
  3:42pm
me:

like in wfmu land?
  3:43pm
me:

like... when do ken and andy start ? in GMT?
  3:43pm
me:

not that this isn't awesome... I do love you Irwin...
  3:44pm
me:

I'm just wondering if I can get a nap in before bat night
  3:44pm
me:

So is it 3:45 in wfmu time?
  3:45pm
me:

so like... I can get a good 2 hours nap before bat night?
  3:46pm
me:

I'm telling you Irwin, you've got 2 more tracks to keep me from nappy times... can you win my ears over to your system of thinking?
  3:46pm
me:

I love your show... but I'm ... so ... tired...
  3:47pm
me:

first impression ... ok
  3:47pm
Matt from Springfield:

@me: HEY!! No one is allowed to be more commenty than me!
  3:47pm
me:

and I do like misty
  3:47pm
Matt from Springfield:

In fact I think I'll add another now...
  3:47pm
Matt from Springfield:

And another...
  3:47pm
me:

hey Matt
  3:48pm
me:

but I need misty + drums
  3:48pm
me:

like ... more durms!!!!
  3:48pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hey me. Yes, the time stamp you see is the time in Jersey City (and NYC)--so if you "hurry" you have two hours to nap before catching Ken and Andy live.
  3:49pm
me:

but... well... I'll forgive the lack of drums for the sweet lyrics.
  3:50pm
me:

Cheers Matt... Sorry Irwin... I can listen to music at work (aka, tomorrow, i.e. your show), but people look at me funny when I listen to ken and andy at work
  3:50pm
Matt from Springfield:

Tabs are good! Otherwise I would have 12+ windows open. (Instead I try to fit about six, in a primary and secondary window. Of course I usually maxed out at 7 windows before this innovation, so I can do more with tabs anyhow.)
  3:51pm
me:

awesome show dude... nappy time!!!
  3:51pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

haven't had an email for hours and was just enjoying a nice quiet day. now I find out there's a systems problem so I'll probably have a shitload hit me soon.
  3:52pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

Matt, I don't mind having 10 tabs open, but I HATE having more than two windows open. It freaks me out!
  3:52pm
me:

still time for a nap before that!
  3:53pm
me:

Bat night!

love you irwin.
out
  3:54pm
Matt from Springfield:

Ha, people are "admitted" to a 7SD show, much as people are "admitted" into an institution!
  3:55pm
Mike East:

@DCE - we had that happen a week ago. It was awful. Sit around twiddling your thumbs all day, then all of a sudden there's a million things to do. Good luck when the dam breaks.
  3:56pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hey DCE!
I used to tolerate 7 browser windows compacted into a crowded desktop (with "Internet Explorer (7)" or whatever marking it). But nowadays I also don't like to see more than two windows. Maybe a WFMU Pop-Up Player or Firefox favorites menu as well, but 3 is starting to push it!
  3:57pm
Matt from Springfield:

"When The [Message] Levee Breaks"...

Speaking of email Irwin: did you get my FTP link emailed to you?
  3:58pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

save me, Memphis E-Minnie!
  4:02pm
Irwin:

Matt -- did you not receive my reply that I couldn't DL the file?
  4:04pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Irwin: Yes, so I signed up for a FTP service yesterday, one that supposedly that emailed the link to you when I uploaded. I'll try again...
  4:05pm
Irwin:

Didn't receive any followup notification. Try try ag'in.
  4:06pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

white housewife rap was a new frontier in 1962
  4:06pm
Braveness23:

this is what it sounds like when I rap
  4:07pm
Matt from Springfield:

@DCE: Out of tune, out of time housewife rap!
  4:08pm
dave:

excellent mind control number
a fine example
did the mind control stop after 1962?
  4:10pm
Matt from Springfield:

Shit, YouSendIt is blocked on my work computer (much like Dropbox). The automatic message to you might be in your spam folder--it has a hyperlink.

If not, oh well--I'll try again for next week.
  4:11pm
Irwin:

I'll check later, Matt. Note to self.
  4:13pm
Matt from Springfield:

Cool--like a grindhouse film radio advert.

All right, thanks Irwin.
  4:15pm
kat330:

Appreciate the assonance of that Ming track.
  4:17pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

assonance, huh? I like it!
  4:18pm
kat330:

@MK: My long keyboard absences are due to prep work in the kitchen, but to continue on seedlings: You had them outdoors? We were mowing the lawn in February here, and it's been absurdly warm, but I still keep my tomato seedlings indoors for 6 weeks or so. Got about 30 of them doing well now.
  4:20pm
kat330:

@DCE: So glad you could rejoin the land of the listeners, btw. :)
  4:21pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

great to be back!
  4:23pm
Matt from Springfield:

Or Upside-Down Bats!
  4:24pm
kat330:

If anyone has ever done research on what name is most frequently seen on FMU playlists (maybe playlists everywhere), I think "Lee" is a likely possibility.
  4:24pm
kat330:

Maybe it's nagging, craggy old women they're giving away.
  4:40pm
Matt from Springfield:

This song tickles my intelligentactiles!
  4:41pm
kat330:

Thinking along similar lines, Matt. Alien anatomy always makes for interesting fantasies, IAE.
  4:43pm
kat330:

Yeah -- this is just the stroking I needed.
  4:45pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

sexy radio, eh?
  4:46pm
trojan:

oh! did cpt beefheart take some inspiration in this song for 'sure nuff n yes i do" ???
  4:47pm
kat330:

Bottleneck is sexiness personified -- um, audified.
  4:49pm
kat330:

There would be no old bats if every woman was treated to some bottleneck. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
  4:50pm
Matt from Springfield:

Blues lyrics:
"Ev'ry woman would have someone /
If they just touched that bottleneck"
  4:51pm
Matt from Springfield:

"I got me an old dreadnought /
It's old and brown but it's in tune"
  4:52pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

is this like "skiffle" music?
  4:52pm
kat330:

Matt, you are going all moody BLUES on us here. :)
  4:53pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

hey Matt, did they play Nights in White Satin?
  4:53pm
me:

YES!
  4:54pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

or Knights in White Satin?
  4:54pm
me:

PLaY THaT ONE aGaIN PLZ!!!
  4:54pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

or Knights in Satan's Service?
  4:54pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

or Knights in Satan's Cervix?
  4:54pm
Matt from Springfield:

I thought it was like British version of calypso, but it is like skiffle--skiffle was orig a jug band offshoot in 1920s America. With harmonica and washboard usually. I suppose skiffle and calypso had a common ancestor somewhere.

@DCE: Yes, of course! The next-to-last before "Question", "See-Saw" as encore!
  4:56pm
Matt from Springfield:

Oh yeah...(opens up ziploc bag)
Here's your secondhand pot smoke...wait! Now it's thirdhand!

**lights joint, puffs smoke into bag, releases bag again**
  4:57pm
Matt from Springfield:

@DCE: You know "honeytraps" in spy agencies? That could be a "secret intelligence cervix".
  4:57pm
me:

WTF? Next one next one
  4:57pm
kat330:

Matt, you didn't seem to need anything to be high yesterday aft (ever, actually), so theoretically it should still be secondhand.
  4:58pm
me:

Hey, get this... WTFMU?
  4:58pm
me:

hehehe... I thought of that all on my own.
  4:59pm
me:

Is this anthony and the bed pans?
  4:59pm
Matt from Springfield:

@kat: Not high, just "kilter-less"! :)
  4:59pm
me:

Is this guy trying to rip off daemon all bran?
  5:00pm
kat330:

Let's only hope IRWIN references none of this in his next on-air speaking.
  5:01pm
me:

Lets just listen
  5:01pm
G:

Madrugada means Dawn or very early morning in Portuguese
  5:02pm
SteveL:

Seems to be working.
  5:02pm
Matt from Springfield:

Irwin's a good end-of-the-world machine!
  5:02pm
me:

hmm...
  5:02pm
me:

more plz
  5:03pm
Listening Out There:

...oh, Irwin's not reading any of this. It can now be revealed that his real first name is Willard. Yes, Willard Mitt Chusid...
  5:03pm
me:

suberashi
  5:03pm
G:

That's one of the government agencies that's expanding, the Obnoxious Noise Toleration Agency. Get those tax returns in on time, or they may have to cut back or something. Talk about the end of the world.
  5:07pm
kat330:

Hey, G. You seemed mightily underwhelmed that I've solved my having my garden and FMU, too, problem. It's most mollusk this digital audio box.
  5:11pm
kat330:

I love this. This is "noise" that works as opposed to noise that does not so much.
  5:11pm
G:

I was off keyboard and in car and stores till just before 5 eastern time, kat. I was going to scroll through earlier comments after catching up on email. Is it further up in Irwin's show??
  5:12pm
Matt from Springfield:

Pretty progressive classical--most Kronos Quartet I've heard is standard repertoire, but kudos to them for this challenging piece!
  5:12pm
Obnoxious Noise Toleration Agency:

This show is violating our legal monopoly.
  5:15pm
kat330:

@G: No, no -- on a playlist from earlier this week. Yesterday I think. Only problem we've noted so far is an inability to find GTDS. Ichiban's there, but not Drummer.
  5:16pm
kat330:

[Hm, this might back up a theory of mine that G. is a mutable persona hereabouts.]
  5:17pm
G:

I'm just me. But not always feeling myself.
  5:19pm
kat330:

Aha, so you're "me", too! ;) I keed.
  5:20pm
Matt from Springfield:

Herr BEYER!!! JAAAAAAA!!!
  5:22pm
G:

Kloster Strasse = Cloister Street
  5:22pm
glenn:

kat, send doug an email to ask to be invited to his mailouts. they have the links to the shows on gtds stream.
  5:22pm
tinaun:

better than the original
  5:23pm
paula pc:

@ tinaun - YES
  5:23pm
SteveL:

How do you say "Spinal Cracker" in German?
  5:24pm
G:

I didn't hear the beginning, but I'm sure they figured something out... What I've heard is not a bad translation at all...
  5:24pm
kat330:

@glenn: Did and done. Doug didn't have any exact answer for JT and me, yet, but I'm sure we'll figure it out. Pandora's box doesn't allow for commenting, of course, but that should tickle some personae thoroughly pink, IAE. ;)
  5:28pm
kat330:

IRWIN, I know you hate compliments from the likes of me, but this is some extra mollusk setwork you're spinning today. Thank you now in case I'm away at the end.
  5:29pm
Irwin:

@kat -- thanks for the nod. Purr-shee-ated.
  5:30pm
Matt from Springfield:

I Think I Love Voice of the Beehive!
  5:32pm
tinaun:

@ matt
if these guys don't dress up like bees in their shows, i'll be sorely disappointed.
  5:33pm
kat330:

Mose def!
  5:34pm
glenn:

voice of the beehive should be followed by jaymz bee and the royal jelly orchestra, for a double dose of sweet cheesiness.
  5:34pm
Matt from Springfield:

@tinaun: Elementary school play-chic.

Early, stoned SNL-chic for that matter as well.
  5:37pm
hellosmith:

love that popping and cracking. vinyl rules!
  5:37pm
kat330:

Or dress like the Borg.
  5:51pm
Irwin:

Kaplans: Bizarro-Prog
  5:53pm
Matt from Springfield:

Or, "Prog", in Bizarro World.
  5:54pm
G:

They made this while taking a break from test prep, eh?
  5:55pm
chris:

I'll be crying tomorrow because it will be six more days until the next Irwin show. :-(
  5:55pm
Droll:

I'll be the first to point out "Mellotron" and "Flute Solo" are terms generally only found together on prog rock records, but the real strings make this Crimson tune sound like Lawrence Welk meets Beautiful Music.
  5:56pm
me:

how does he do it?
  5:56pm
Listening Out There:

...or "Why?"...
  5:56pm
Matt from Springfield:

@chris: There's enough Archives of Irwin to fill the rest of those dull 165 hours until then! ;)
  5:57pm
Matt from Springfield:

Fabulous stuff, Irwin! Great show!
  5:57pm
kat330:

Matt, are you being paid for every archives plug? :) You'd think you get a cut of the "big" action.
  5:58pm
G:

One of the Kaplan Bros. is depicted in the playlist visual for the week.
  5:58pm
Matt from Springfield:

JANDEK!!!! :D
  5:58pm
G:

Cmon, Matt never gets any action :-P
  5:58pm
kat330:

'Bye!
  5:59pm
Matt from Springfield:

@kat: I did get a raise, from 5% to 7% of the $0.00 WFMU budgets for Archive promotion! :)
  5:43pm
