Listener comments!

  9:04pm
Destroit:

Hello EFD and all the nice people.
  9:05pm
Danne D:

no hitter for Lohse just got broken up

Hi Funk Fans :) Hi EFD :)

Hi Baseball League Members :)
  9:06pm
G:

Imaginsry Radio played The Nice late night this past weekend...
  9:06pm
Kat:

Hi EFD, Destroit, Danne D, G, and everybody. Wondering if the rest of the Barry Adamson album kicks as much ass as this song does?
  9:07pm
G:

ugh, what a lohser!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08pm
efd:

greetings Destroit, G, and Danne D!

And Kat! This is one of the better tracks but the album overall is very good - I'd recommend it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm
efd:

And speaking of Imaginary Radio, Chris had a great live set and interview with Barry Adamson back in December or January - check the archives!
  9:10pm
G:

@kat: It was released Valentine's Day. Here's an extract from the Pitchform review, FWIW: "Swinging through dark pop, atmospheric instrumentals, and demented circus music ... unique with great personality."
  9:10pm
PB:

Street Fighting Man is still my favorite Stones track of all time. They were great, way back then.
  9:11pm
Joe D.:

Yes he did! I came here to say that. Well, not really.
  9:11pm
SteveL:

It is quiet in the Midwest. For now, no street fighting.
  9:12pm
Kat:

Thanx efd and G! Sounds good.
  9:13pm
Destroit:

Hello Kat :) franzen just busted up backes's lip. Ice fighting.
  9:16pm
PB:

Did Nicky Hopkins play keyboards on all of the studio albums from the Stones best period (Beggars Banquet through Exile)? G probably knows. G?
  9:17pm
G:

From wikipedia, Nick Hopkins article: "Hopkins played with the Rolling Stones on their studio albums from Between the Buttons in 1967 through Emotional Rescue in 1980 and Tattoo You in 1981, including the prominent piano parts in "She's a Rainbow" (1967), "Sympathy for the Devil" (1968), "Loving Cup" (1972) and "Waiting on a Friend" (1981). During this period, Hopkins tended to be employed on the Stones' slower, ballad-type songs, with longtime Stones keyboardist Ian Stewart playing on traditional rock numbers and Billy Preston used on soul and funk-influenced tunes."
  9:18pm
PB:

I knew G wouldn't disappoint. Thanks G.
  9:20pm
G:

I'm doing my own booky research, so I always have one or two wikipedia tabs open for when I need quick answers to my own research questions. Unless I know something stone cold dead cert, I check it online...
  9:21pm
PB:

I always oved Nicky Hopkins's piano playing. He was also great on the Airplane's Volunteers album and on countless other albums from the era. Died young (51 I think). Huge loss.
  9:22pm
Danne D:

Yay Black Hollies :)
  9:22pm
Joe D.:

WHEN IS THE NEXT BLACK HOLLIES RECORD COMING OUT?!

I am gonna march down to the chocolate factory and get some goddamn ANSWERS
  9:23pm
Danne D:

Yahoo's new live scoring is prettier but larger :(
  9:23pm
Skrikie:

Marked new. Is this particular 7" new?
  9:24pm
G:

Nicky was a session kb'ist precisely because he was in poor health from his youth and could not commit to tour.
  9:24pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Nicky Hopkins was mighty fine on some Kinks sides as well
  9:25pm
Skrikie:

Scratch that. (not literally)
  9:25pm
Danne D:

and that's how it goes, yeah! and that's how it goes...
  9:27pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

If you had a commercial radio station going here, you'd have a good commercial for your show right there.
  9:28pm
Danne D:

I've seen Bruce Springsteen TWICE as many times as you have, Evan!
  9:29pm
PB:

Couldn't agree more. You're not missing much efd, Springsteen is terrible.
  9:31pm
m:

hi evan
the black hollies rock
  9:32pm
G:

Did he do a rap about how he lets someone do a little farm work on his mcmansion estate so he "qualifies" to pay the incredibly low farm rate of annual property tax? I'd pay to hear *that* rap.
  9:35pm
Danne D:

Marlins trying a desperate 8th-inning rally

Btw, is it possible to love a song within like 3 seconds? If so that's just occurred here :)
  9:36pm
PB:

Springsteen, Bono and others of their ilk are a bunch of sanctimonious phonies.
  9:36pm
Skirkie:

1st base umpire kick started that rally.
  9:39pm
SteveL:

I'm sorry I didn't see Springsteen circa 75-82. Generous and energetic performer.

First chord of jacuzzi boys sure sounded like a Born to Run chord, or is it just me?
  9:40pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Good evening Evan and all the listeners.
  9:44pm
PB:

Speaking of recycled intros, it is amazing how many times the intro to the Ronettes Be My Baby has been repackaged and recycled. A tribute to Phil Spector, I guess.
  9:50pm
Danne D:

como estas Ricardo! Always good to see you :) Happy First Day of Baseball season #2
  9:50pm
Joe D.:

I really want to order the Far Out Fangtooth LP from Siltbreeze but they won't put the new Mount Carmel record up even though its been out forever and I want to get them both to save on shipping. #firstworldproblems
  9:51pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Todo bien Danne. Ozzie start badly.
  9:51pm
Danne D:

True that, but it'll make for better twitter reading at least :)
  9:52pm

WFMU has made me very good at picking up cover songs very fast.
  10:00pm
tinaun:

best vocals ever.
  10:01pm
SteveL:

I missed Peelander Z. They were actually in Fort Wayne. My priorities stink.
  10:02pm
Ignore Function:

I don't remember Peelander Z sounding like this. They are really fun live.
  10:04pm
JMD:

Robin...oh no, don't tell me!

Holly in NC:

"your daughter is one...." loved this movie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm

Barkevious, sadly I don't have any additional info at hand on Sonic Avenues, but that album is great!

Hi everyone and thanks for listening! Tyring to keep up!

JMD:

Just checked. He's doing better and the cancer is in remission.
  10:07pm
Barkevious Shabazz:

This show friggin kills it. Luv bbq.

Barkevious Shabazz:

How is Mrs. Horn?
  10:11pm
G:

Still in a coma, I'd reckon. (This hearkens back to a Pseu show discussion a couple weeks or so back.)
  10:16pm
Joe D.:

Did you hear about the Band in Heaven? You know they got a hell of a... wait.
  10:16pm
SteveL:

Hold on now. Wasn't there a "The Band_________" ban recently?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm
efd:

apologies to JMD and anyone else who was alarmed to hear Robin Gibb... I assure you, that would not be the first song I'd play if he had passed on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm
efd:

Steve, that ban applied strictly to ___ the ____ bands (except for pre-2003 bands, iirc)
  10:19pm
PB:

efd, I Started a Joke?
  10:21pm
SteveL:

Ah, you are correct sir!
  10:21pm

This vocalist in fuxa sure sounds a lot like Dean Wareham, doesn' he?

Just now on Twitter from @SonicAvenues: @efd Thanks for the spin Evan...glad you're digging the album!
  10:25pm
PB:

efd, hitting it out of the park on mlb opening day (at least for me). Country Life is my favorite Roxy album. Husker Du next?
  10:25pm
Aharon:

Thanks! I feel like the parrot who said, "What? Up until now the food's been fine."
  10:26pm
G:

Röxy Müsic. Happy? Doesn't have quite the ring of Mötley Crüe, I admit
  10:26pm
Barkevious Shabazz:

Best album cover ever?
  10:27pm
SteveL:

PB: I'd never thought of Roxy Music and Husker Du in the same sentence before, but, there is a sonic connection.
  10:28pm
PB:

I was referring to efd's umlaut reference.
  10:28pm
SteveL:

I want a Röxy Müsic t-shirt. Badly.
  10:31pm
Joe D.:

wow Frankie Rose really was the brains behind the whole Vivian Girls thing wasn't she
  10:32pm
Danne D:

Coincidentally, Out of the Blue is one of my favorite Debbie Gibson songs :)

Couldn't resist.
  10:35pm
SteveL:

Oüt of the Blüe

Barkevious Shabazz:

Yay Baseball Project Incarnation :)

How do I not own this album yet?
  10:43pm

Debbie Gibson? I thought "Out of the Blue" was an ËLÖ album.
  10:43pm
Skirkie:

Did anyone else hear "Rockin a hot dog?"
  10:45pm
SteveL:

Ken had a photo last week or so that represented the "Rockin a hot dog' point of view.

Hey efd. Been catching the last few sets, really have enjoyed it. Just wanted to say hi before I crash here in 3...2...1...

blogger above (Robin Wills of The Barracudas) says: "How to put a tag on Gotta Get Louder? It sits somewhere between Proto-Punk, Bubblegum/Hard Rock and Powerpop. It's insanely catchy and an instant exuberant classic. What makes this even more amazing is that most of the band were 15 at the time! "

Congratulations. You played Air's "Seven Stars", It qualifies as chillwave but it is a stellar selection. Air did the soundtrack to the colorized version of Georges Méliès, A Trip to the Moon. Moi! C'est magnifique.
