Listener comments!

  11:33am
Call Me Dolores Like They Do In The Stories:

Hello mess of Jeffs. Quick in & out today. To a gig (is that short for giggle?). Jeff G, really enjoyed 'The Easter Parade' by Yates. Name change due to forseen circumstances.
  11:42am
Jeff G:

Thanks for the stop-by, Dolores! Glad you dug the book. Will try to think of something cheerier for next time...
  11:57am
Alf from Upstate:

Welcome back, Destination Out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am
Jeff G:

Thanks, Alf! Always a pleasure.

listener james from westwood:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm
Jeff G:

Hey, ljfw -- great to see/hear/read you.
  12:04pm
Doug S.:

You know what that say, those that can, D:O; those that can't teach.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm
Jeff G:

Adam Lane, incidentally, teaches music at my kid's elementary school.
  12:07pm
listener james from westwood:

as marathons go, 3 hours of jazz is all the running i'll be doing today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm
Jeff G:

Certainly an easier way to beat the heat. Will also be trying to heat the beat.
  12:15pm
Doug S.:

Adam Rudolph, incidentally, went to my wife's high school.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm
Jeff G:

It all connects.
  12:20pm
Doug S.:

In high school, Adam dated (briefly) a dear friend of ours whose mother was a sort of godmother to the AACM. She drove musicians to gigs, put up posters and distributed flyers, got them radio airplay and helped with legal matters in getting the organization incorporated. I blogged about her here: http://bit.ly/ISoaCd

Jeff G:

In high school, my friend Eric's mom got us gigs collecting coats and serving drinks at fancy parties.
  12:45pm
ASNB:

In high school my friend Parsons and I used to detail cars. We started getting calls for luxury sports cars. I couldn't drive stick so I remember burning the clutch on a Porsche 911. It stunk. But I did use cue tips to clean out the air vents.
  12:46pm
ASNB:

stone/water is one of my favorites of this type of music.
  12:48pm
Doug S.:

After high school, I went on to college, but my best friend stayed home to play in a rock band. It became extremely popular in the DC area and played clubs and toured the East Coast regularly. My friend's mom worked the T-shirts and records table in the lobby at dozen of their shows.

Happy early Mother's Day, everyone.

My mom loves this song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm

Dan in Seattle:

I love this South African-related stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm
Jeff G:

Yeah, Dan, absolutely some of our favorite music of all time.
  1:18pm
Doug S.:

Yah yah, me too. I just got the new Ogun release of the Blue Notes' live '79 performance in Belgium. Makes me want to cry. No really. Like a baby. A happy baby.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm
Jeff G:

Wouldn't want to follow this crew in concert...
  1:25pm
ASNB:

so where does this signal originate? at wfmu? where are all involved? and what is the give the drummer some stream? just curious to put the pieces together.
  1:28pm
Hugo:

There's an incendiary version of "Funk Dem Dudu" on the BN 79 release. Ought to be played on the radio/stream (hint...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm
Jeff G:

We at D:O are still saving our pennies for that collection... (but noted, Hugo!)
  1:35pm
Doug Schulkind:

@ASNB
This stream, Give the Drummer Radio, is one of several "alternate" streams hosted by WFMU. I started the stream in 2010 as a means for continuing to broadcast my radio show after moving to Pittsburgh. The server for the stream is housed at WFMU, but I control the software remotely from Pittsburgh. Once I got my show established on the stream, I began inviting other music obsessives to do radio programs on it with me.

You can see a schedule here: http://wfmu.org/table?period=7115

When radio shows aren't airing on the stream, it "plays" a round-the-clock flow of music of all kinds that I curate for it.

That's great and industrious, Doug! So where is Jeff?

I played a C. Bobo Shaw track on my show in '07 and his daughter Myah contacted me requesting a copy of the record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm

I went to high school with Bobo Shaw's mother.
  2:21pm

I'll tell him that. I didn't think his daughters wanted anything to do with him. Which record? Here's the most recent picture of him http://eremite.com/news

That photo of CBS at Eremite's site has a link to a 4-star Downbeat review of their Aboriginal Music box. The author of that review write a niece piece about WFMU's Mining the Audio Motherlode here: bit.ly...
