Hello Duane!
  Wed. 4/18/12 12:10pm Caryn:

  Wed. 4/18/12 12:13pm Jeremy Shatan:

  Wed. 4/18/12 12:14pm Duane:

  Wed. 4/18/12 12:15pm Caryn:

Yay, a fellow deceased espionage professional!
Wed. 4/18/12 12:17pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Hang in there Mr. Shatan
  Wed. 4/18/12 12:18pm still b/p:

Hi, Duane.
See/hear these "rediscovered" tracks? I like 'em. The ones I could stream anyway -- one link seems dead.

  Wed. 4/18/12 12:20pm Duane:

Hi Still b/p. I saw that list. It's great. I've played a few of those tunes on my show. No Jackie Shane though:(
  Wed. 4/18/12 12:22pm Jeremy Shatan:

I'm officially a charioteer now. Funky & love the synth.
Wed. 4/18/12 12:26pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

and Moulton is still the man...
  Wed. 4/18/12 12:27pm Cecile:

I'm going to start referring to "Jesus is my boyfriend" as "cage the panther" songs, after that weird poem that keeps popping up on WFMU.
  Wed. 4/18/12 12:27pm Cecile:

or is it a leopard? All I know is beautiful Michelle seems to channel the movie Cat People.
  Wed. 4/18/12 12:28pm Brad:

Wed. 4/18/12 1:09pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Man, I love Scritti Politti
  Wed. 4/18/12 1:09pm Jeremy Shatan:

Ahhhh, Scritti. The sweetest thing, indeed. I wish he would bring his apparently fabulous band over here for a show or two...
  Wed. 4/18/12 1:11pm Kat:

notGurl: Is Green Gartside still hot?
  Wed. 4/18/12 1:17pm Jeremy Shatan:

He still has nice eyes, but I think he borrowed his beard from someone: http://pitchfork.com/news/41685-5-10-15-20-scritti-polittis-green-gartside/
  Wed. 4/18/12 1:17pm Cecile:

he looked like a bearded dude now, instead of a revolutionary glamor boy
Wed. 4/18/12 1:19pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Ahh, middle age and middle class life...
  Wed. 4/18/12 1:20pm Cecile:

I like beaded dudes a whole lot better anyway.
  Wed. 4/18/12 1:21pm Cecile:

Beaded I have no opinion on.
Wed. 4/18/12 1:24pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Gartside had it pretty rough there for a few years, it's great that he's come through it so well...
  Wed. 4/18/12 1:25pm Cecile:

yeah, he's super-smart and I'm glad Pitchfork talked to him.
  Wed. 4/18/12 1:26pm Cecile:

gotta love anything that calls out to Bust a move.
Wed. 4/18/12 1:27pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Hey Mr. Lee, you're doing a great set...
  Wed. 4/18/12 1:27pm Kat:

I'm gonna have to check that Pitchfork interview out later. Thanks!
Wed. 4/18/12 1:29pm Tim Love Lee:

Thank you Jan
  Wed. 4/18/12 1:33pm Jeremy Shatan:

Digging the DJ DRM!
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:00pm Jeremy Shatan:

Wed. 4/18/12 2:01pm Tim Love Lee:

Jeremy Shatan: Check Buddha Beats for the Zombaze..Cheers!
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:05pm steve:

omg... ive loved this track for ages and NEVER knew what it was ... thank you Duane!!!
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:05pm Cecile:

Is there a comp of those Crystal records singles?
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:07pm Duane:

Cecile: Not yet..I'm currently working on getting one out slowly with my namesake tho!
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:08pm Cecile:

The two you played today were killer.
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:10pm Caryn:

Agree with Cecile. The Crystal tracks were both awesome.
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:12pm Duane:

I agree...my Uncle Derrick produced them. He has a bunch of reggae disco tunes that are begging to get comped. Keep you posted!
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:14pm Cecile:

You know, this pop-reggae stuff works with other pop. Next to dub, it's not so successful, but it stands up really well with other dance music.
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:15pm Cecile:

I mean in general, Dennis Brown seg'd to this just fine.
Wed. 4/18/12 2:16pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

You gotta get your uncles later stuff out, most folk don't know much of his work after the early 70s
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:17pm Duane:

I concur Jan
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:17pm Jeremy Shatan:

Derrick is a seriously underrated singer as well.
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:19pm Cecile:

I don't know any of his work as my taste in reggae is very particular. But early 70s reggae I can get behind.
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:20pm paula pc:

@Cecile -- It's FMU that introduced Chungking to me = Jantine B's premium one year started with "Let The Love In"...sorry for late post but want to give props to that song, to Tim, and to FMU where deserved, once again!
Wed. 4/18/12 2:21pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Cecile, that's a bit of a blanket statement, every period of reggae has had more variety then you'd think...
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:21pm Cecile:

Nice, paula.
Pandora introduced it to me - I fell in love with the song "Come with Me" about three or four years ago and set up a station for it.
Wed. 4/18/12 2:22pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Duane, what would we do without Numero?
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:22pm Cecile:

I realize that, but let's just be blunt about it -I do not like Bob Marley (except for the early stuff) at all. My sister makes up for me, though, so the cosmic balance is maintained.
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:23pm Duane:

Jan: Life would be a bit less funky, that's for sure
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:23pm Cecile:

also, I never did get toasting apart from liking the occasional Eek a Mouse or Yellowman song.
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:23pm fxo:

kudos for having Tim Love Lee on your excellent show.
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:24pm Cecile:

you guys, Eclipse Records just re-opened in DT St. Paul, and has stacks of Numeros. Piles of 45s and no CDs!
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:25pm Cecile:

something to do at lunchtime, finally.
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:25pm Duane:

thanx for listening FXO!!
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:26pm paula pc:

you just cannot stop Daisy Martey's vocals
Wed. 4/18/12 2:26pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Cecile, Bob Marley doe not equal all of 70s reggae. He's not even close to my favorite artist of the period
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:26pm Jeremy Shatan:

Wait, did my computer just break or did someone say they didn't like Bob Marley?! It's ironic, because one of the main people who got me deeper into reggae was my high school science teacher and her name was Cecile!
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:30pm Cecile:

Yes, I know Jan. But he's had such a huge influence. I love many artists from that period - Jimmy Cliff, Desmond Dekker, Junior Murvin, Burning Spear, Dennis Brown, of course the Harder they Come soundtrack. I just am not excited stuff in Marley's later style, and that's what I encounter out here. Not on 'FMU, just in my local travels.
The 60s and 70s are my favorite period of reggae. After that, I mostly stick to the Singers and Players stuff and dub because it's kinda loopy.
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:31pm Cecile:

about stuff...
Wed. 4/18/12 2:31pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Dub Syndicate Classic Selections Volumes 1-3
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:33pm Cecile:

yep, like loads of what I've heard of the On-U sound.
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:35pm Cecile:

anyway, didn't mean to detract or anything.
I just really like the vibe of many early 70s reggae artists a lot - the soulful sound
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:39pm northguineahills:

I've been silent working on stuff.....Nice interview w/ Tim, enjoyed Dennis Brown, Ersen, and this Earlies track.
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:40pm northguineahills:

For awhile, all of the Studio One singles were available for download, not sure if they still around. Of course I grabbed them all.
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:40pm Cecile:

okay, tell me about this Eight Minutes.
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:41pm Caryn:

Been another great show, Duane! Any chance of you playing some King Floyd next week?
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:44pm Duane:

Cecile: I HAD to play that track twice. Teen J5 styled group from NYC. One album and that was it!
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:45pm Duane:

Caryn: I can definitely play some King Floyd for you next week:)
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:45pm Mike East:

Great show today, Duane. Been listening, not commenting. Cheers!
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:46pm Cecile:

I love it. I hope they all went on to happy lives. That singer is smooth for a little kid.
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:46pm Duane:

And Thanx for all of your positives. If I missed thanking you individually, blame my multi-taskin'. Great time being had today!!
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:46pm roger:

Sorry for the late comment, but I was in the car until now. What was that amazing percussion track you played around 1:25? I made a note to myself that said "2 songs after it was a song that had a chorus 'stop this train'" but I can't figure it out from the track titles. Any help anyone?
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:48pm Duane:

roger: I think that was one of Tim Love Lee's tracks. I believe it was MPB4. The archive will be up later today of the whole show
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:49pm roger:

excellent, thanks!
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:50pm allan:

Electric piano always reminds me of rain, but I think that’s because it reminds me of the local forecast on the weather channel when I was a kid. Either way I like this
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:51pm Caryn:

Aw, thanks, Duane :)
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:51pm Stephanie:

What a track...Blue Magic..thanks!
Wed. 4/18/12 2:51pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Bluuuuue Magic!
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:52pm Cecile:

smooth as silk.
Wed. 4/18/12 2:53pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Gonna be away from my keyboard for a few, so thank you once again Duane, and thank you Tim Love Lee
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:55pm Caryn:

I think I'm going to develop whiplash after 3 hours of bopping my head along to the grooves... And the awesomeness of Blue Magic is not helping.
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:57pm Jeremy Shatan:

Yeah, that Blue Magic is H-O-T. Cheers, all!
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:57pm Cecile:

Jeez, another killer track.
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:57pm Cecile:

pass the ibuprofen and the ice bag, Caryn.
  Wed. 4/18/12 2:57pm allan:

ah i hate being busy all day "working" so that i can't catch this show til it's ending thanks for the tunes
