  11:53am
Van in DC:

Hello there Amanda, listener james from westwood
  11:54am
Dervish:

Amanda is so close to armada. I am ready to ride the streamwaves!
  11:57am
listener james from westwood:

i'll sail along as long as i can; gotta jet around 2ish, but will sail the archives with the incoming tide.
  11:59am
Carmichael:

I am here. Hi Amanda, hello, faithful listeners.
  12:00pm
john:

wooooooooooooot!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm
Amanda:

Hey Listener James, Dervish, Van, Carmichael, john, and all others!!! Get ready to thrill to some energetic tunes.
  12:04pm
Chris P.:

Hey Amanda! Curious if you're going to talk about your Record Store Day adventures?
  12:04pm
Carmichael:

Keep 'em poppy, jangly, bouncy, hoppy, and spritely, if you wouldn't mind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm
Amanda:

I'm tryin'! I'm tryin'!
  12:08pm
Anchovy Paste:

This show is already way better than the Adele Butterdance.
  12:11pm
Chris P.:

Amanda should also put on the playlist which dance she's doing in the studio to each song.
  12:11pm
KW:

Wow! Nazario twice in one week! How cool is that? Great show Sunday BTW
  12:12pm
Carmichael:

You're doing great, don't panic! Your great is better than most people's best.
  12:18pm
Chris P.:

"I mash potatoes but forgot the gravy" = one of my new favorite lyrics.
  12:18pm
listener james from westwood:

whoa; must've missed the fill-in. got some downloading to do after this. thanks, kw!
  12:19pm
G:

Hey, your bed music has lyrics now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm

A little comment
  12:27pm
Van in DC:

I had to go forage for lunch. Just back. Record Store Day - I did it! First time in a record store in years. Smash records in DC (Adams Morgan). Loaded up, and a goth chick gave us an impromptu electric guitar concert :)
  12:31pm
listener james from westwood:

i like your store better than my local record store, i don't even know if they know record store day exists. bought a booker t disc there 2 years ago and said i was celebrating the occasion w a purchase. guy didn't even blink. maybe the joint's a heroin front.
  12:32pm
Carmichael:

Good ol' Clive Gregson. Always liked him/them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm
Amanda:

Forgive the obviousness of this segue, guys.
  12:36pm
kat330:

This past weekend was especially radio-friendly. The Nick Lowe interview on Shelley's show and then the sweet surprise of Amanda Sunday evening. Great tunes, Amanda!
  12:37pm
G:

In media they call a segue like that a "hot switch"! :-P
  12:39pm
Gaylord Fields:

Amanda, have you read Will Birch's book on the pub rock scene, "No Sleep Till Canvey Island"? I can recommend it heartily and without hesitation.
  12:40pm
Carmichael:

I bought Robert Gordon's album (with "Uptown" on it) on a whim, and I still think it's fabulous. It gets mucho household airplay.
  12:44pm
listener james from westwood:

this singer is such a pill.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm
Amanda:

Gaylord -- I haven't read that book, and thanks for the rec! You're one of my fave tastemakers so now I MUST read it. Thanks a billion million, also and again, for letting me fill in last Sunday! Some of these people seemed to like it.
  12:47pm
Gaylord Fields:

Oh, they loved it, and rightfully so.
  12:47pm
efd:

I still can't believe Rush never recorded a song called "Big Audio Dynamite," a la Nick Lowe's "Bowi" EP.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm
Amanda:

Moreover, did anyone record a song named "Situation Nowhere," which most people think is the real title of that song?
  12:49pm
Skirkie:

And the winner of "song stuck in my head for the next two days" goes too...
  12:51pm
Carmichael:

I heard the opening to this and thought it was Laurie Anderson's "Baby Doll".
  12:51pm
Gaylord Fields:

So the idea here is that I can't tear myself away to eat lunch, and if I stay at my desk I can't concentrate on my work? Curse you, Amanda!
  12:51pm
Gaylord Fields:

But someone did record a song called "Stand by Me"!
  12:51pm
Carmichael:

The Kinks did Situation Vacant. Does that help?
  12:52pm
efd:

no-WHERE?! And all this time I thought it was "Situation no WIN." It's another informative Nazario Scenario!
  12:53pm
Gill:

I love it when Amanda unleashes another Scenario on a suspecting public!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm
Amanda:

No! Evan, you are right -- it IS "no-WIN," but many people I know, including me, heard it as noWHERE for years.

@Carmichael -- Hmm, yes, interesting association between Lennox and Anderson.

Thank you, Gill! I shall do it whether you suspect it or not.
  12:57pm
ndbob:

afternoon Amanda and everyone!
  12:58pm
Matt from Springfield:

Good afternoon Amanda, NDbob and everyone!
  12:58pm
ndbob:

hi Matt!
  1:04pm
Matt from Springfield:

As far as PSAs go, that one is cheap as well as a bit creepy. Nowhere NEAR as creepy as the freaky 1971 original Mr. Yuk commercial--that's a psychedelic freakout!
  1:05pm
Brian in UK:

Hello Amanda.
Carmichael, last time I saw Clive Gregson he was playing guitar for Nanci Griffith at WOMAD.

Amanda, more Chilli Willi & the Red Hot Peppers.
Will Birch's book is a right good read. He was there. Bugger missed Ian Gomm.
  1:07pm
Brian in UK:

If I were an Eagle it would be Bernie Leadon.
  1:10pm
Chris P.:

Oddly enough, I love punk music circa and around 1985...when I was born.
  1:10pm
Van in DC:

Yes, but nostalgia ain't what it used to be
  1:10pm
Matt from Springfield:

I have a similar fascination with stuff right around the time I was born, years before and after. Kind of like seeing how the world and the arts looked right when you were "forming" in a mystical sense.
  1:11pm
Brian in UK:

Retro is a marketing device.
  1:11pm
K prg:

I heart this all.
  1:13pm
Matt from Springfield:

Performance style prose! And on a 12" too! Is this a RSD find?
  1:16pm
G:

As in "National Bohemian", the Maryland beer? aka Natty Bo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm
Amanda:

It is a find, certainly -- not RSD related, but bought at a RS. I love it too. Kristin Hersh is a great prose stylist, as we now know now that she has a book. (Which everyone I know likes, who has read it, though I haven't read it.)
  1:19pm
Gaylord Fields:

I think you're shorthanding it a bit, Brian in UK. I believe that "retro," in the way I'm presuming you're using the term, is the exploitation of the nostalgia that dwells within most of us (and I use the word "exploitation" in its neutral sense).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm
Amanda:

<3 K prg, you are the greatesttttt
  1:25pm
Chris P.:

Oh man...Galaxie 500 = greatness
  1:29pm
Brian in UK:

Gaylord, retro has more meaning when born in '52. So it appears cynical to me. In the end it's all fair game.
  1:29pm
Artie:

retro, or just gladly remembered and re-experienced?
  1:30pm
ndbob:

I do remember "Natty Bo"
  1:34pm
ndbob:

there's some "retro" i like - though a lot really falls short - particularly with doowop.. most tends to be bland, watered down and sanitized
  1:34pm
Chris P.:

Clueless soundtrack!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  1:34pm
Brian in UK:

Is it really 17 years. retrotastic.
  1:37pm
Brian in UK:

Groups like The Alabama Shakes are not necessarily retro but are bring labelled so.
  1:37pm
Matt from Springfield:

Supergrass, helpfully learned from a commercial!
  1:37pm
G:

Natty Bo still exists, but the original brewery went bankrupt maybe in the 80s and it is now made in Wisconsin or somewhere like that for the MD market by one of the huge beer companies. TV ads for national beers slowly killed off the original Natty Bo in the 60s/70s, but it is still a well-known Baltimore icon.
  1:37pm
Matt from Springfield:

Lather, Strongbad, Repeat!
  1:38pm
Gaylord Fields:

Brian, I was born in 1960 myself, so I've seen several eras redone for our enjoyment as both people and consumers. I guess I've seen and met enough people who adopt retro lifestyles who are not at all consumerist to not have an entirely cynical take on it. After all, the future can be as easily packaged and sold as the past.
  1:42pm
Chris P.:

And Natty Ice, as well (which was Natty Light's much shittier brother)
  1:43pm
ndbob:

i do remember those Natty Bo ads when I was growing up.
  1:45pm
Van in DC:

I walk down the hallways constantly wondering what I will do if a zombie suddenly stumbles out of an office at me
  1:45pm
Doug S.:

You mean I not invited to Nazariofest 2012??
  1:47pm
Brian in UK:

Supergrass came out the week we moved into the house we live in now. They were the next big thing.
Luckily the media has given up looking for the new Beatles years ago. So it has to have something to do to justify its existence. The consumers do what they want as you correctly say, Gaylord.
  1:47pm
Chris P.:

Well there is no such thing as Nazariofest...from what I hear, though, there is Nazariorama.
  1:49pm
Doug S.:

I have run out and buy some poblano chiles. Anyone need anything?
  1:50pm
Carmichael:

I need some duct tape and a lemon.
  1:50pm
G:

I need the rest of my work done !
  1:51pm
Van in DC:

One egret please Doug
  1:53pm
Brian in UK:

Two pints of lager & a packet of crisps......please
  1:54pm
Gaylord Fields:

We should have a Nazario Scenario work exchange, wherein we get someone to fill in for us for three hours each week.
  1:59pm
ndbob:

I need to go ... excellent show Amanda!.. I'll catch the rest later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm
Amanda:

I'll fill in for you! I'm great at... oh wait.
  2:00pm

  2:08pm

Hi Danne! James -- I know, I know!

Does that make this a stalling track?
  2:11pm

any modern composer who quoted this many other tunes would get nastygrams out the yang from the copyright polizei.

"Both Sides Now"! Apparently titled as: "I've Learned Nothing".
I really don't know effective translations of idioms across languages, at all.
