hiya!
  11:51am Van in DC:

Nice, love the Thai music as I am coming on to the live stream :)

Hi there annie & Charlie.
  11:52am annie:

nice to be on time.....hey charlie and van
  11:53am Michael:

Hi charlie and annie and Van. I remember working the night shift for a while - always weird the first nights going to work in the dark and getting out in the morning light.
  11:54am Van in DC:

Hi Michael - yep, I did the night shifts too many many moons ago...ta dum! :)
  11:55am Wendy del Formaggio:

I like the photo on the playlist. Lovely! Hi Charlie and Annie.
  11:57am listener james from westwood:

good thursday all! happy to hear a mohammed rafi intro on the stream to busy doing nothing today.
  11:58am ndbob:

morning Charlie and everyone!
  12:00pm Carmichael:

Good morning, everyone.
  12:03pm Gary Mitchell:

the bright sound of a swingin' thursdsay... hello kiddos!
  12:03pm Carmichael:

This hep cat can really swing on the Wurlitzer!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm charlie:

Hi Van, Annie, Michael, James, Wendy, Carmichael, Bob, Gary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12:07pm ndbob:

Hey Gary!
  12:07pm Carmichael:

I used to work at a 7-11 type of convenience store overnight while attending college. It was like being trapped in a Fellini movie.
  12:08pm still b/p:

Hiya.
Got a little urban Tolkien goin' on in the photo. The Two (Water) Towers
  12:08pm Van in DC:

Carm - that is exactly where I worked graveyard shift, 7-11, also while in college.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm charlie:

Working the night shift is very surreal -- I did it for a while. And started out doing overnights at WFMU, in deserted East Orange NJ.
  12:09pm ndbob:

ah.. very similar to Robin Ward's "Winter's Here".. wonder which is the original
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm charlie:

bob, is that a bookend for "wonderful summer"?
  12:12pm Vicki:

herro
  12:12pm listener james from westwood:

funny thing about that photographer's flickr page; last year i found myself on the same street as that adult theater in philly that he photographed and likewise took a picture. i was like, "there are still brick-and-mortar adult theaters?!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm charlie:

Hi Vicki -- I'll meet you at the Flamingo after the show!
  12:16pm ndbob:

Yep Charlie.. pretty sure it's the follow up.. one of the "I had a hit with a summer song so how about a winter song" records
  12:17pm Brian in UK:

Good After, Charlie & chums.
  12:17pm Carmichael:

I used to drive by an adult theater every day to and from work. I used to look forward to the movie titles that were satires of then-popular movies. Often crude, but nearly always funny. In 3 foot tall letters.
  12:20pm still b/p:

The last downtown porn theater locally became a rock club years ago. Dose that mean the devil and the hygiene risks are less present? Couldn't say.
  12:20pm Gary Mitchell:

ndbob.. Robin Ward's Wonderful Summer preceded the Caravelles "You Are Here" by a few months.
  12:21pm ndbob:

Thanks Gary!
  12:21pm still b/p:

dose/does....Freudian transposition.
  12:21pm listener james from westwood:

there was one I used to see from the bus while commuting on rt 80 called the queen anne theater. leonia or bogota or something like that. the structure is still there, but no idea if it's still screening films and marking the marquee with those sorts of pun-tacular titles
  12:22pm e.g.:

"Busy Doing Everything to Charlie"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm charlie:

hi still b/p, and brian!
  12:24pm northguineahills:

Hotdog! I just got an email informing me I have a phone interview in an hour.
  12:24pm Carmichael:

Good luck, NGH! Here comes employment.
  12:25pm annie:

word up ngh!! good luck
  12:26pm Brian in UK:

ngh no webcam, no clothes. All the best.
  12:26pm still b/p:

Wear a tie to take the call. Good luck.
  12:27pm northguineahills:

Well, considering I'm still in my pyjamas, I think I'll be ok. Thanks everyone!
  12:31pm listener james from westwood:

go ngh! best of luck.
  12:31pm Van in DC:

Hope you ace your interview :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm charlie:

Have fun with the interview, NGH! Make sure you have my show blaring in the background -- that'll make a good impression.
  12:33pm ndbob:

good luck NGH!
  12:34pm Carmichael:

Prep for the questions, NGH: What is your name? What is your quest? What is the capitol of Assyria? What is the air speed velocity of a swallow?
  12:35pm Michael:

Yes good luck on the interview. Make sure you use charlie as a reference.
  12:35pm Gary Mitchell:

"cassette I bought on the street" .. good move there
  12:38pm Van in DC:

Did Jim Price just step in?
  12:46pm northguineahills:

Well, if Assyria still existed Kirkut would be the current capital. As for air velocity of a swallow, depends if it's a European or African swallow.

I will have the show on in the background, just not blaring.

I love this Glass mash.

Thanks again everyone, I've been out of work since July and have exhausted my savings.
  12:47pm Gary Mitchell:

Give the Arranger Some
  12:47pm northguineahills:

a little Irish whiskey w/ my maté, and I'll be ready.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm charlie:

"Glass mash" -- there's a concept.
  12:51pm Doug S.:

All hail Mapfumo! Our good friends at Electric Jive just posted an excellent compilation of Mapfumo singles:

  12:52pm ndbob:

thanks Doug.. ah the great Electric Jive
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm charlie:

Hi Doug!
Nice work, Electric Jive!

Mr Blue Shoes Mapfumo
  12:56pm Brian in UK:

Does he still live in Seattle?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm charlie:

Is that where he ended up? I knew he moved to the states...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm charlie:

and yes, great shoes on that album cover!
  1:00pm northguineahills:

I've always wanted to hear sand for years. Thanks Charlie.
  1:00pm Gary Mitchell:

this dj really mixes it up
  1:04pm northguineahills:

Damn, you're killing it Charlie!
  1:04pm Michael:

Yea this is super charlie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm charlie:

thanks! did this one a few years ago...
  1:13pm Brian in UK:

When I worked nights in the past, East River Pipes' 'Gasoline Age' was very comforting.
  1:16pm listener james from westwood:

tunes are making a very trying day far more bearable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm charlie:

glad to hear it, James
  1:18pm northguineahills:

That's an awesome track, Brian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm charlie:

I have very distinct memories of the music I was listening to during the times I was on the night shift. I often associate certain songs or albums with particular places/times. Anyone else experience this phenomenon?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm charlie:

And the tom Waits and Fifth Dimension tracks have what in common?
  1:20pm Jeffrey Kootch:

Cool Fifth Dimension Cut! Shout outs to Bob Dorough and Jackie And Roy...Age Of Aquarius...One of the first albums purchased with my own money....Still play it loud and often...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm charlie:

Hey, Jeffrey! Glad to see ya.
  1:25pm Brian in UK:

Both written by Nora Lycra.
  1:26pm annie:

if it's any sign from the heavens... my roommate just got back from yet another job interview ... and he go the job!! so maybe it's the energy in the air.. your turn next ngh!!
  1:28pm ndbob:

Sure do Charlie.. sometimes the association comes immediately, sometimes it takes a little time to place it.
  1:30pm northguineahills:

Thanks annie, waiting right now for the call. This recruiter has been rather flakey the last 10 days, so, 1:30 could mean anything.
  1:33pm Doug S.:

Try getting me a job, too, Annie!
  1:34pm Gary Mitchell:

booker t with that all night diner ambience
  1:34pm kat330:

Hey, Charlie, Doug and all!
  1:36pm kat330:

In Cambridge, I worked a night shift for many months at a bio lab. Quite appropriate centrifuging and separating blood samples in the middle of the night!
  1:36pm Doug S.:

G'day, kat330!
  1:37pm kat330:

I never adjusted to the third shift, and the only beauty I derived from that experience was walking home from the bus stop early mornings, hearing the birdsong and watching the squirrels scamper.
  1:37pm ndbob:

Hey kat!
  1:37pm annie:

hhmm.. tall order mr drummer, bad enough i haven't been of any use to ndbob... but my experience of the last few years?? whatever you've done is not necessarily what you should be doing; it only adds to your collective experience. each job evolves to the next. although, this selling nuts thing is pretty odd, considering i'm all about honesty in advertising.. and well.. this schtick isn't so on the up and up... although he means well. and then there'e the whole practice of right livelihood.. now THAT'S a tough act.. anything can be rationalized, but how far do you stretch your principles? oy vey!
  1:38pm kat330:

Hey, Bob! Folks were wanting you to call 7SD as the ND rep last night!
@Charlie: Tom Waits for everyone -- thanks! [listening but, as usual, not at keyboard]
  1:39pm Van in DC:

Busily working away, listening & enjoying. That started to sound like Hans Dulfer to my ear there for a minute, causing me to look up and check in again :)
Oh and I am interviewing a 5th person tomorrow, hopefully they will work out too :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm charlie:

Hi Kat, at keyboard or not!
  1:41pm kat330:

Jobs in the air here! :) Now I'm back out to my seedlings. Have a great day and week folks!
  1:41pm annie:

pat the seedlings for me kat!
  1:43pm ndbob:

@kat - I'll have to check the archive of that @annie.. yep.. i surely know that dilemma
  1:44pm Brian in UK:

Bluddy Hematology. Is a full blood count, some sort of vampire?
  1:46pm annie:

i would recommend relocation...if things aren't working where you are.. depression is the last thing a job-seeker should have to carry around with them.
  1:46pm Laura L:

Hi Charlie, thanks for another excellent show--very good work music, this Daniel Johnston tune in particular.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm charlie:

Hi Laura L! Glad you're on board.
  1:52pm Brian in UK:

Oh those English vowels. Great stuff Charlie. Topping show.
  1:52pm Doug S.:

I've been waiting for you to finish before vacuuming, Charlie. Um, no rush!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm charlie:

I will clear out soon, so you can clean up, Doug!
  1:56pm ndbob:

excellent show Charlie!
  1:56pm northguineahills:

Thoroughly enjoyed the set, Charlie.
  1:57pm Van in DC:
