Listener comments!

  11:37am listener james from westwood:

whatever happened to baby snooks?
  11:49am Michael:

Made it back from an insufferable meeting - hiya charlie and James. That looks like a Funny Girl!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am charlie:

Hi James!
Hi Michael (welcome back)!
see y'all soon...
  11:55am listener james from westwood:

howdy michael, hello charlie, and good thursday, all a' y'all!
  11:56am Michael:

Hey James - you in westwood NJ?
  11:59am ndbob:

Hey Charlie and everyone!
  12:00pm Artie:

On board.
  12:01pm Alf from Upstate:

On board, never bored.
  12:02pm ndbob:

RIP Donna Summer
  12:04pm ?:

Nothing but bad news recently, bye the bye hello folks. The State of Independence was a wonderful record.
  12:05pm listener james from westwood:

@Michael: Yes indeed. Not as nice as CA, but slightly fewer quakes.
  12:05pm listener james from westwood:

@ndbob: Dammit! What's with all the death?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm charlie:

Hi Bob! Artie! Alf!
Bummer about Donna ...
  12:08pm Michael:

James: does the 166 or is it 165 bus still run to Westwood? I lived in Weehawken for a few years and took it to work in NYC every day.
  12:09pm ?:

I may be a mere cypher, Charlie but HELLO.
Three Dog Night doing Traffic, bonkers.
  12:09pm listener james from westwood:

165. Used to take it into NYC myself. Had the benefit of being the last stop heading out of the city, so if I fell asleep in the Lincoln Tunnel, I wouldn't end up in Spring Valley as I would on the train.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm charlie:

Hello, and welcome, "?"
Glad you liked the Traffic cover.
165 riders - reprazenting!
  12:16pm listener james from westwood:

love that view from weehawken; i took the express in along the turnpike, but sometimes had to grab the early-early local bus, and sunrise over manhattan made the brutal wake-up time worth it. especially in winter with smoke rising from the buildings and ice flowing down the hudson.
  12:17pm Michael:

It is and was an amazing view. When I was there in the early 80's there was really no development along the Hudson - just old rotting piers. Now quite different but the view is still pretty nice.
  12:18pm ?:

Love the eloquence, james.
  12:19pm northguineahills:

Donna Summer, not DJ Donna Summer.
  12:23pm listener james from westwood:

Many thanks, ?! (Should I use an interrobang for that?)
@Michael, I got a sense of that with all the building around the bus station, in what developers would like to call Clinton, I think, but is actually Hell's Kitchen. Many new apartment/condo towers over the first half of the 00s within walking distance of the terminal.
  12:23pm Doug S.:

Listener James, the muse of smoke and ice.
  12:23pm listener james from westwood:

hell, ngh, i don't wanna lose either of 'em!
  12:25pm Aaron in Jcity:

great set charlie!!
  12:26pm Michael:

James - you're right about the West Side in Manhattan - I was talking about the Jersey side. The development from Hoboken to the GWB has been pretty amazing. Heck from Jersey City to the GWB really.
  12:27pm Michael:

Should be careful crossing:

  12:30pm Jan:

15 minutes late to the party, but it's swingin.
  12:30pm ?:

Hey Doug, better than most governments; the muse of smoke & mirrors.

james, the ampersand was for you.
  12:32pm Doug S.:

I am a Judee Sill swooner.
  12:32pm listener james from westwood:

@Michael: I noticed the Hoboken development when I began taking the train. South Hoboken got a similar burst of building to what happened in Jersey City: pilings and factories replaced w/ retail and residential towers. Edgewater, too, went from seedy waterfront to family-friendly through the 90s/early 00s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm charlie:

Welcome, @Jan!
@Doug -- I agree, she's marvelous!
  12:36pm Brian C.:

I used to love my view from Weehawken at 961 Blvd East, c.1993-96. Moved out and the development seemed to start right afterward.
  12:37pm Van in DC:

Hi Charlie. Late I am, but such a lovely day here it would have been criminal NOT to go enjoy the National Mall for lunch :)
  12:41pm Van in DC:

What? Did I just see that Donna Summer has died?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm charlie:

Hiya, @Van, welcome, glad you enjoyed a nice Nat'l Mall lunch... Sorry about Ms. Summer.
  12:50pm ndbob:

It was a TMZ report Van - not sure if it's been confirmed elsewhere.
  12:50pm Dervish:

This show has street cred.
  12:53pm Van in DC:

Yes, the family confirmed it just moments ago apparently
  12:55pm jason:

this (give him a great big kiss) sounds awesome at this speed.

  12:57pm listener james from westwood:

AP's got the Summer report, too.
  12:59pm listener james from westwood:

brian, i dated a woman once whose goal in life was to live along blvd east, or that nest of houses near the alexander hamilton monument right where blvd east turns and dips down to the helix. i seconded that emotion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm charlie:

lol, @Dervish
shangri-las 45 at 33 rule! (ty, and hi @Jason)
  1:02pm Jan:

Donna Summer! Just read the Obit. Remember how startling it was to hear "Love to love you baby" for the first few times- was? Fast forward to Celo Green. What is to come in the future? I wring my hands!
  1:03pm still b/p:

Streety Beaty Big & Bricey
  1:05pm northguineahills:

I didn't pick up "Love to love you Baby" on vinyl until 1.5 years ago, so I was a little late to that party, albeit I had her other stuff.
  1:05pm Michael:

Brian and James: I lived just off Blvd East by the park on Liberty Place. While I did not have the view, catching the bus each morning was pleasure because of it. Now Port Authority - what a hellhole that was in the 80's. Dunno if it still is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm charlie:

ha ha still b/p
  1:14pm listener james from westwood:

Bus terminal still has its character (and characters) at certain hours, but as of 2005 it was considerably less chaotic during am/pm commute times. outgrowth of the disneyfication/9-11 security clampdown. lotsa dogs & rifle-toting cops during my last 4 years using the bus station.
  1:28pm Jan:

Had to break from lunch to tell you that the program is excellent.
  1:28pm doyle dean:

i like this song! (not to change the subject)
  1:29pm doyle dean:

and the math quiz, love the math quiz
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm charlie:

ty, Jan -- I thought Paul McC had cleared the room!
  1:32pm paula pc:

I LOVE that Paul McCartney song, and that Rickie Lee Jones covering Traffic is new to me and is AMAZING!!
