Listener comments!

  10:45am
FATHER YOD:

Greetings TC,
Looking forward to another great show.
Kahoutic is contracting and expanding and is all or nothing at all!
13 penetrations will take you home to the principles and the children, to the yodship to see the golden sunrise!

Greetings, Father Yod, and all who are yet to come. I'm just going to swig down a quick cup of coffee, and then it'll be time to start. See you at noon!
  11:57am
listener james from westwood:

good tuesday, all, and welcome back, tony!
  11:58am
iker:

hey, dear Tony!
looking forward to today's show, here in the sunny basque country!
Avatar 12:00pm
tonyc:

Hello, everybody! Thanks for showing up!
  12:05pm
Van in DC:

Hi Tony and everyone.
  12:05pm
Ricardo Montalban:

Hola, Senor Tony! Looking forward to it - whatever it is.
Avatar 12:06pm
tonyc:

Lots of prog, psych, & folk today -- for the first two hours, anyway.

Hey there, Van and Senor M!
Avatar 12:09pm
tonyc:

Plus Jesus stuff -- or Stuff for Jesus.
Avatar 12:13pm
tonyc:

And then some electroacoustic music during the end (times).
  12:13pm
Van in DC:

All that sounds great to me Tony :) But I'm gonna have to wander off for a bit to find something for lunch. SOOO hungry :)
Avatar 12:18pm
tonyc:

This Random Harvest track is a cover of a Curved Air tune, by the way....
  12:19pm
northguineahills:

Random Harvest, very nice...!
Avatar 12:20pm
tonyc:

Hey, northguineahills!
Avatar 12:24pm
tonyc:

You paralyze me with your dolly eyes....
Avatar 12:45pm
tonyc:

Are you all having lunch at the same time? Save me some of the pickles.
  12:51pm
Hugo:

Way past lunch over here, in fact, closer to dinner time. The Paris Pilot does sound very 1969. You don't hear that organ any more.
Avatar 1:00pm
tonyc:

Coming up next track: Jesus disco prog ... or something....
  1:04pm
Van in DC:

Well, just getting back. SO pretty here in DC that I couldn't NOT go an a long walk :)
  1:05pm
Van in DC:

The mall has all the Folk Life festival stuff being set up...stopped by and got Azerbaijani food (Doner Kabob - lamb/beef mix, etc) for lunch :)

Anyone else having buffering problems? The signal's dropped out for me around 20 times so far, though it's been recovering quickly.
  1:07pm
Van in DC:

so far so good for me since being back...
Avatar 1:10pm
tonyc:

Thanks, Van. Anyone else?
  1:15pm
Jeremy:

Hi Tony! Just tuning in, really nice songs in this set. Stream is flowing nicely here...
Avatar 1:16pm
tonyc:

Hey Jeremy!! Yes, the stream seems to have recovered on my end too....
  1:28pm
Ricardo Montalban:

I haven't been noticing any buffering problems, but I am in and out of the room
Avatar 1:30pm
tonyc:

Good to know, Senor M. All is now behaving for me too....
Avatar 1:42pm
tonyc:

Weirdly, someone posted what are supposedly tracks from this Bluebyrd album on youtube -- but they're actually from some completely different record. That's one of the problems with file-sharing -- people sometimes have no idea *what* they have.
  1:50pm
FATHER YOD:

Hey Tony,
Just returned from a wedding ceremony,
dinner in a couple of hours, so can sit blissfully absorbing some of your show!
  1:53pm
Van in DC:

Now that last song artist / song / album title combination is pretty tough to google ;)
Avatar 1:57pm
tonyc:

Jan's last name doesn't appear anywhere on the record. Guess there was a fad for single-named hippie chicks.
Avatar 2:09pm
tonyc:

The Fans were a Kevin Dunn band. Hence, the Eno-ish sound...
  2:12pm
Geordie:

Loved that Fans cut, Tony.
Avatar 2:13pm
tonyc:

Glad to hear it, Geordie!
  2:15pm
FATHER YOD:

HOW MANY TUNES DO YOU KNOW THAT HAVE WHISTLING IN THEM?
  2:15pm
FATHER YOD:

TWISTED NERVE THEME?
  2:17pm
listener james from westwood:

a couple of years ago there was a mega-mix of a couple dozen whistling bits from various songs. everything from "sitting on the dock of the bay" to the opening of g'n'r's "patience." had forgotten some of these songs had whistling in 'em!
Avatar 2:18pm
tonyc:

I'm a fan of Fred Lowery, who released a bunch of LPs in the '50s with himself as whistle soloist.
  2:18pm
FATHER YOD:

WHISTLE WHILE YOU WORK?
Avatar 2:19pm
tonyc:

That's my mother's can....
  2:19pm
Ricardo Montalban:

I've got some of those Fred Lowery records! They're wonderful!
  2:20pm
FATHER YOD:

'Two of Us,' The Beatles (1970)?
  2:20pm
MrFab:

james from westwood: that would be DJ Riko's "Whistler's Delight."
  2:21pm
FATHER YOD:

(Sittin' on) the Dock of the Bay,' Otis Redding?
  2:22pm
Ricardo Montalban:

Whenever I listen to whistling songs I think of Cancer Boy from The Kids in the Hall's Brain Candy
Avatar 2:29pm
tonyc:

Michel is a man, by the way -- Michel, mon beau.
  2:30pm
Van in DC:

So apparently this is on a synclavier...I was wondering if any theremin were involved.
  2:33pm
FATHER YOD:

Thinking of a number of movies this could be the soundtrack for
:-
Tetsuo: The Iron Man
The Holy Mountain (Jodorowsky)
The Last Battle (Luc Besson)
Akira
Blade Runner
Music on RJD2's walkman!
Avatar 2:33pm
tonyc:

@ Van in DC: Yep, it is theremin-less. Theremins are too fattening.
  2:41pm
Doug S.:

Your show is the perfect tonic after helping a friend move just now. The question is, can I apply your music directly to my aching back or must it be ingested aurally?
  2:42pm
Jeremy:

Michel est mon hommeboy...
Avatar 2:43pm

Doug: Try lying on the floor on your stomach with the speaker on your back.

Ah, I found the playlist, even though it's not linked on the WFMU home page right now.

This Redolfi is excellent.
  2:48pm

That was great Tony.

Oops -- didn't know the playlist wasn't linked on the home page. I forget to check.

The ingredients for next week's "Tape Hiss" are still being selected, but will definitely include a 1981 concert by Fred Frith and David Moss.

Home page announcement has been fixed. Once again, GTDR's unpaid summer intern will be taken to the public square and be roundly humiliated.
  2:58pm
Ike:

Heh. I would have noticed that sooner but I'm not checking playlists much lately except when my boss isn't around to look over my shoulder. I'm glad he can't listen (to my earbuds) over my shoulder too. That would require synesthesia.
  2:59pm
Van in DC:

Thanks Tony for the parts of the show I was able to aurally ingest. Fine show it has been indeedy. I didn't even think to mention that I didn't see the show linked on the mothership's home page...sorry about that. I just assumed it would be soon after I made my way in :)
Avatar 3:01pm
tonyc:

Well, I should make a habit of looking myself. It almost always is, so I forget to check.
Avatar 3:02pm

Anyway, thanks Van and everyone else for listening. See ya!
