Hi, LJfW and an early hi, Doug!

howdy kat!
  12:05pm
listener james from westwood:

damn, when this show aired, the thought of a national healthcare plan was bloody hopeless.

Doug Schulkind:

Just flew in and boy are my fingers tired.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm
Doug Schulkind:

Extremely bloody, LJFW.

wish i could send newt '95 a time traveling telegram saying, "UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE PASSED AND UPHELD BY SUP. CT. SECY OF STATE HILARY CLINTON SAYS HI."

Doug Schulkind:

According to Romney, his plan for the individual mandate is based on a Heritage Foundation scheme cooked up by... Newt G.
  12:27pm
duke:

Is that the plan that goes "If you're sick, too bad for you"?
  12:28pm
listener james from westwood:

that "whatever it is, i'm against it" philosophy of his sounded a lot better coming out of groucho.
  12:30pm
kat330:

Modern Aesop, that Hankin. And David Sedaris followed suit.
  12:31pm
kat330:

Robert Preston!! :)
  12:31pm
listener james from westwood:

does it get better than robert preston? no. it does not.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm
Doug Schulkind:

Steinski is a great Music Man fan. He used the opening salesmen on the train sequence in an amazing production.
  12:32pm
kat330:

Not by very much, LJfW. Appealing to both sexes, too.
  12:33pm
listener james from westwood:

he was a gas in "victor/victoria"
  12:33pm

Whoever *isn't* a Music Man fan, I don't wanna know 'em.

Fantastic with a capital F!
  12:35pm
kat330:

Mmm, enjoying some fresh grapes from the fridge. Nothing better in hotter than hell weather.
  12:35pm
northguineahills:

I dig the Music Man, it's as close too musical I can usually stomach. I think we did the music man as a play in the 3rd grade.
  12:37pm
kat330:

@NGH: Yep, that's what all the men I've ever known have said, too. [not the 3rd grade play part, but well, you know]

Doug Schulkind:

I like so many smart and attractive people used to loathe musicals. But then I met my subversive counterculture darling of a wife and she set me straight. The American music is the baddest baddass going.
  12:40pm
kat330:

Even West Side Story, Doug, pre-setter straighter? That's another many guys will "stomach." :)
  12:41pm
listener james from westwood:

my mom and eventually my parents saw a lot of the classic b'way shows you see in retrospectives, and my mom was religious in buying the original cast albums. she played them for me when i was a tyke and some of my earliest musical memories are of those soundtracks.
  12:42pm
listener james from westwood:

the original cast album to "take me along" has a couple of great jackie gleason songs. and i couldn't go a week w/o playing "man of la mancha."

HOLY HECKFIRE is it hot out there! Hi
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm
Doug Schulkind:

I think the heat just melted my CD player. I just shoved the disc in the ol' 'puter and we're back on track.
  12:45pm
kat330:

Hey, Van! Pretty awful in the Louisville area, too. Far worse for the commuters though with a major bridge repair/lane closing. Betcha there will be plenty of disabled, overheated cars this afternoon...
  12:45pm
listener james from westwood:

nothing can stop steinski!
  12:46pm
kat330:

@Holland: You caused the CD glitch or meltdown? Or ... ?
  12:47pm
Van in DC:

We have something like 45% humidity along with the 100 degrees. Just lovely. I am drenched after just a short walk to get lunch. (BBQ sampler platter...yum )
  12:47pm
holland oats:

@kat i have earie powers
  12:48pm

Bugs Bunny also had those
  12:49pm

Fine, but use them only for good, HO. Maybe you used them on Roberts of the SCOTUS?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm

Ony 45% humdiditty in DC, Van? That's unusual.

We girls used to chant that last bit (or something very similar) when doing the slapping hands routine.
  12:53pm
northguineahills:

Only 48% relative humidity in Brooklyn.
  12:53pm
kat330:

And the jump rope chant that was truly bizarro: Fudge, fudge / Call the judge / Mama's had a newborn baby / It isn't a girl / It isn't a boy / It's just a plain ol' baby / Wrap it up in tissue paper / Send down the elevator / First floor (stop)<-- step on rope, then proceed with many floors... WEIRD little mind thunk that one up.
  12:53pm
listener james from westwood:

very tough to remain seated to this march! iirc john philip sousa once said a march ought to make even a man with a wooden leg want to step out.
  12:53pm
Van in DC:

Ha! Down to just 40% humidity! Whoo!

and... Right Now

Updated: Jun 29, 2012, 12:45pm EDT

The weather service says that June has been cooler than usual, only one station registering temperatures above 76 fahrenheit and cooler than in May. It looks like summer is yet to come if it ever does.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm

A tall cold one, LJFW!
  1:04pm
kat330:

Hugo, my Finn hubbie was in the Helsinki area in May, and he said it was near that temp then. But we ran into some Swedes down in Florida last week, and they mentioned how it was like 40-degrees in Stockholm at the time. You'll get yours, I imagine.
