Listener comments!

  12:04pm
KevinfromBayRidge:

Howdy all! ( Liz's previous comments had a doodie, so I felt obliged!).
  12:06pm
eeyore:

Hullo. This sure is a catchy tune.
  12:06pm
BSI:

i dig sadness.
  12:10pm
Carmichael:

Hey there, Irene. Hi kids!
  12:12pm
kat330:

@BSI: I dig roots that run deep [out in the garden earlier]. Hi, Irene, Carm, Kevin and eeyore!
  12:24pm
kat330:

Deep-rooted sadness here. Cello is the best emulation of human emotion, IMO.
  12:25pm
Scot:

It's true, if you use Scot's Turf Builder. Feed your lawn. Feed it!
  12:29pm
kat330:

@Irene: This is lovely.

@Scot: You must remember this: Earthworm movement against grassroots organization is underfoot!
  12:33pm
Van in DC:

Hi Irene and folks! Meant to be back in time for the show start but got enraptured by an Irish band playing on the National Mall for the FolkLife Festival. They were great! :)
  12:34pm
kat330:

Van, did you get jiggy with it?
  12:35pm
kat330:

We're doing more of a sarabande here w/ Irene this set. :)
  12:36pm
Van in DC:

I didn't but one mom and her little girl were going crazy up front :) But hey, anytime you see a man in a kilt playing bagpipes and have a pretty woman fiddler, I mean, I just had to sit for a while :)

Irene:

Hey Everybody! Off to a Mournful but cooling start, meant more to make us move slowly through the hot weather. The music will move where it wants to today.
  12:41pm
Van in DC:

Clay did a good job filling in for you last week Irene :)
  12:46pm
Van in DC:

Did the stream go dead?
  12:47pm
kat330:

Not here.
  12:47pm
Van in DC:

That was weird. My Flash player stopped, I switched to the 128k and all is ok
  12:47pm
Chris from DC:

Flash has cut in and out a little today.
  12:48pm
kat330:

Given the atmospheric issues of late, probably not so weird in your area.
  12:48pm
BSI:

all Flash is gress.
  12:49pm
BSI:

sorry, that made no sense whatsoever.
...another margarita, pls...
  12:49pm
Van in DC:

Okay thanks, I'll stay on the 128K stream :)
  12:50pm
Chris from DC:

kat: the phones have sure been weird here the last few days.
  12:51pm
Carmichael:

Richard Feynman sadly never made it to Tuva. But Paul Pena sure did.
  12:52pm
Brian in UK:

Did Richard Feynman ever get to Tuva?
  12:53pm
Brian in UK:

Jinx Carmichael.
  12:55pm
Carmichael:

He he ....
  1:00pm
kat330:

From sarabande to a nice sway...
  1:01pm
northguineahills:

Perfect Monday afternoon holiday haze music.
  1:07pm
northguineahills:

I was trying to get 90.1 when driving through Sulliven County on the way to Deleware County (in the Catskills) Saturday, and didn't think I found WFMU.
  1:10pm
kat330:

Oh, read that the Indianapolis zoo had another baby elephant born -- a tiny little thing at 250 lbs. or so.
  1:13pm
kat330:

Here's our fuzzy footage of the Louisville zoo's Scotty at barely a month old: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfcHE5GkAP0 [Mancini music accompanies so speaker alert]

Irene:

You can get WFMU on the NYS Thruway but it's a bit spotty. Once you hit Kingston it's pretty much gone.
  1:23pm
kat330:

Yay, Miles man!
  1:25pm
Van in DC:

I agree Kat, this is great!
  1:26pm
Carmichael:

If you're looking for cool, you found it.
  1:27pm
kat330:

Cool and smooth -- pressing out those weekend wrinkles in your searsucker suit.
  1:27pm
northguineahills:

that was an adorable elephant.
  1:29pm
kat330:

@NGH: Yes, he was. If you had audio, that was a little boy next to us who yelled out "Baby!" and my audible "ohhh!"
Very sadly, Scotty didn't make it even to elephant toddler years.... :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm
Irene:

Really cute Kat! Wish I'd seen it before my set break. Maybe I'll mention it next one.
  1:30pm
Van in DC:

Oh no! What happened to Scotty then?
  1:32pm
kat330:

Thanks, Irene!

@Van: I don't know if they ever actually determined. Some sort of digestive problem I believe. Couldn't help wondering if that was a not-so-innocent fall he took. :(
  1:35pm
kat330:

Cool and blue, keeping thoughts of the heat away...
  1:37pm
Looms:

Hello Irene and fellows!
The show sounds beautiful but I'm often losing the 128k stream today. Anyone else? (strange weather over here, it could be just me if storms are around)
  1:38pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

A radio coverage map of the WMFU signal can be found here - http://radio-locator.com/info/WMFU-FM
  1:41pm
kat330:

And thanks for the nod to classical, Irene. Lovely potpourri of music today.
  1:43pm
Van in DC:

I echo the classical nod thanks from Kat :)

@Looms - the 128K stream is working fine for me, but the Flash was going out on me earlier.
  1:44pm
northguineahills:

Thanks, Ken from Hyde Park. When we were driving and sick of our cds, I thought we'd still be in the 90.1 range. Apparently we were in the fringe of the reception, but we were getting some other station that was playing the Stones and Adult Contemporary rock, and we flipped it off before we heard a break for the call sign.
  1:49pm
Van in DC:

Hilary!
  1:52pm
Looms:

@Van in DC: so I guess this is just me. Some fishes may be fooling around in the Atlantic too ;)
Just have to reboot the stream from time to time, no big deal.
  1:52pm
Van in DC:

I love listening to vituoso violinists, most especially Hilary, Sarah Chang, and Joshua Bell. I've seen the latter two in concert at Strathmore - awesome. So in honor of this being a "take it slow day Monday" here...Joshua Bell :)

Irene:

This album by Hilary & Hauschka is so beautiful! I got to mix/record them for WNYC's Soundcheck/ New Sounds. A piece on them will air soon on Studio 360. Lovely people too!
  1:53pm
kat330:

@Looms: Yes, just reboot and you'll keep a-Brest of the set.
  1:55pm
kat330:

That rings a Bell -- thanks, Van! JB's from just up the road apiece, or at least educated in Bloomington
  2:00pm
fred:

@Looms: Alan Bishop plays in Paris on Wednesday (as Alvarius B) and Sunday for a Sublime Frequencies DJ set. No sign of a stop in Brittany though.
  2:01pm
Van in DC:

Clare does indeed has such Kate-like qualities. Wonderful stuff.
  2:03pm
Van in DC:

Yay!
  2:05pm
kat330:

Aha! When you said the last name, Irene, I suspected this: Clare is the daughter of recording artists Geoff and Maria Muldaur. Makes sense.
  2:06pm
Van in DC:

Appears that Hilary just wrapped up about a 9-month tour late last month...
  2:10pm
Looms:

@Fred: seems I'll miss both Bishop brothers this year :(
Thanks anyway. Will you be at the Alvarius B gig?
  2:17pm
kat330:

Very intriguing vocals, Patrick Watson.
  2:18pm
Hector from Barcelona:

Very nice program....
  2:23pm
Looms:

@Kat: agreed about Watson's vocals but I'd say the same about Lee Feldman's voice as it reminded a bit of Robert Wyatt's somehow (which means I loved it)
  2:33pm
kat330:

@Looms: The phrase that became my mantra our week away at the beach is: "It's ALL good." :)
  2:36pm
KP:

Forgot headphones. Train car is empty so listening to iPhone like a transistor radio. I think I'm on to something.
  2:37pm
kat330:

I love California, too, Irene -- the natural bits. And you timed your trip out there to miss the heat. Now, if you could bring L.A.'s 70-degrees with you here...
  2:40pm
kat330:

Il est tout bon -- or -- C'est toute bonne? Looms/Fred
  2:41pm
Looms:

@Kat: hope the weather will make us feel like spending time at the beach soon, it really sucks these days. But I'm with you about the mantra (by the way, the 128k stream bas been acting fine for quite a while, woohoo!)
  2:41pm
Bushman:

Greetings from AnnArbor MI. I Agree about Robert Wyatte
Great smooth show
  2:42pm
Looms:

Kat, "C'est tout bon" or "tout va bien" are the correct translation.
  2:42pm
Webhamster Henry:

You can actually get WMFU-FM 90.1 on overlook mountain in Woodstock. The trick with the Catskills is to make sure a mountain is not between you and Mount Hope.
  2:42pm
Berg:

thanks for a good show on a monday eve in paris!
  2:45pm
Aloha from Pearl Harbor:

Let Hawaii be yoour next vacation.
Worth the jetlag.
I'll teach you to Hula.
make a "fmu `lei`
  2:46pm
Van in DC:

yes, I love hearing Meg Baird as well :)
  2:49pm
kat330:

@Aloha: If you can beam me there, I'm yours, Hawaii! :) Hate long flights [as if anyone *likes* them...]
  2:52pm
kat330:

ta det lugnt "..is Swedish psychedelic rock group" Really? Lovely harmonics, an early music feel. Again, an intriguing find, Irene.
  2:53pm
kat330:

To sum up the afternoon of music, thanks to Looms and esp. to Irene: "C'est TOUT bon!"

Sweet dreams later on and a great day until then -- later!
  2:58pm
Van in DC:

Loved the show, many thanks Irene, and welcome back :)
