Or the Andriani's, the owners and landlords of the brownstone I had a top floor walk-up in with 3 other roommates. A visit back there in 2001 showed that name still at that address, probably the next generation though.

Lee wrote pretty much everything he sang I think. He was the type who sold many songs because he wrote too many to sing himself.

I've loved Melvin Van Peeble's album Brer Soul ever since I heard it on FMU, for what I call its "eccentric soul". The song "Tenth And Greenwich (Women's House of Detention)" makes a lot more sense now--if pimps and others were shouting and talking with the inmates through the windows, that puts Melvin's lyrics in context. THANKS!
