Listener comments!

  3:04pm
Matt from Springfield:

Short and long Lee Morgan, doubled up!
  3:04pm
Theme Music:

No he can't!
  3:04pm
Matt from Springfield:

<---- What an ass.
  3:05pm
Caryn:

Oh look, it's the radio slapstick hour, with your host Irwin and sidekick Duane! I'm sympathetic, but also intrigued.
  3:05pm
Don Key Hotay:

Cute ass
  3:06pm
YETI BOB:

impossible to tell if this is a technical glitch, or intentional
  3:06pm
Caryn:

That is one lovely ass.
  3:07pm
YETI BOB:

haha, just noticed tha playlist subtitle over there
  3:07pm
Don Key Hotay:

IN TEN SHUN ILL
  3:07pm
Matt from Springfield:

@BOB: But in any case, something went wrong, and they're working on getting this fixed as soon as they can.
  3:08pm
G:

fixed is overrated
  3:08pm
M:

Where to find Margaux
Looked hi and lo all over
Not even Youtubes available?
  3:09pm
YETI BOB:

"fixed" like a kitten?
  3:10pm
pierre:

Bonsoir Irwin, long time no hear.
  3:10pm
Michael:

I work with someone who was in the Thinking Fellers. Kinda close to these fellas?
  3:10pm
Michael:

I work with someone who was in the Thinking Fellers. Kinda close to these fellas?
  3:10pm
DNC:

Photo note: We're gratified to see that IC has come back from the dark side for the upcoming election.
  3:11pm
Marmala kitty:

That a handsome mule!
  3:12pm
Michael:

Oopsie. Double phone post. Howdy Irwin.
  3:12pm
Joe Bacon:

Nice picture of Francis, but it lacks Donald O'Connor!
  3:13pm
Bill of Little Rock:

[wagging boney index finger] Look, I'm gonna say this one more time. I never tapped that ass. Not once. Ever.
  3:14pm
Caryn:

I don't know if you can call it fixing and "working on a problem" if the problem is that you forgot to put your theme music CD back in its case and thus had to cover by playing the start of last week's show. That's already a problem fixed, and not a continuing technical problem. Certainly the longer-term problem of finding the CD for future shows exists, but there's no current problem, is there?
  3:14pm
Joe Bacon:

Fron what I've heard, Bill didn't have a little rock...
  3:15pm
Matt from Springfield:

Evening pierre!
Hello Marmala kitty (sounds a bit Indian, no!)

Hiya Caryn, Joe Bacon, Michael, YETI BOB, G, Don, Irwin and everyone!
  3:16pm
Joe Bacon:

Hi, Matt! Hi, John Boy!
  3:16pm
Caryn:

Francis was bigger than this little darling. Although I wouldn't mind some O'Connor around these parts.
  3:17pm
Donkey:

Hey darlin, my parts are available just at the moment!
  3:17pm
Matt from Springfield:

The Brill Building's pre-loaded karaoke machine! Open to the public, of course!
  3:18pm
Brill:

A little dab'll do ya
  3:19pm
Joe Bacon:

More musical genius from the guy who gave us Frankenstein Must Die!
  3:20pm
YETI BOB:

Nice little touch with "this here guitar"
  3:21pm
Matt from Springfield:

Is Bob Vido a one-man band? Those are more fun to look at!
  3:24pm
G:

It's so creative he's even created a new musical key as well as a new language to sing in. We'll catch up with Bob in a few decades!
  3:24pm
Marmalade kitty:

Hi everyone! :)
  3:25pm
Matt from Springfield:

"I don't listen to this sh......ow!"
  3:26pm
pierre:

I like .org
  3:27pm
Matt from Springfield:

@G: Brush up on it now, by 2047 Vidologic Rock will be ruling the charts. Kids will learn to play like Bob V, and garage bands will try to get the most Vidologic sound they can.
  3:28pm
Matt from Springfield:

Mike Lupica!!
If you missed him the first time around, and didn't catch his recent fill-in for the Nazario Scenario, check him out! Hear what WFMU listeners have been raving about!
  3:36pm
fred:

How I wish Mike Lupica would be back on the air! Even the virtual one, I really miss his show, though Liz is doing a fine job of filling in those caffeine-laden shoes
  3:40pm
Matt from Springfield:

RIAA!
  3:41pm
Matt from Springfield:

Maybe RIAA will mash-up "My Bathroom Is A Very Special Place" next!
  3:45pm
Matt from Springfield:

Richard Wolfe Children's Chorus, these are great!
Every one of them the son or daughter of a mother!
  3:50pm
Matt from Springfield:

Ah, that's who Chris Hillman is! Quite a discography. I love that Jackie DeShannon/Searchers song too!
  3:51pm
Comment Police:

Step back from the keyboard, and keep your hands in sight.
  3:53pm
Matt from Springfield:

Well, I look warily on extrajudicial justice, but...it IS justice in this case!
Memorialize Irwin like Bonnie & Clyde.
  3:56pm
Matt from Springfield:

Carey's Problem, our gain.
  3:56pm
das:

This is awesome and irritating at the same time, I love it. And hate it.
  3:58pm
Matt from Springfield:

@das: That is much of FMU's experience, for sure.

Soca Cola!
  3:59pm
Joe Bacon:

Wow, I didn't know Newt Gingrich cut a spot for Ashley Madison.com!
  4:00pm
Customer Experience Quality Assurance Dept:

Sorry, something went right. We're working on getting it screwed back up just as soon as possible.
  4:04pm
fred:

@comment police: this is a Republican playlist, feel free to shoot first and ask questions later
Seriously, I wish there were more people like Irwin, I don't have to agree on all counts to respect someone
  4:05pm
Ornery:

@fred: I don't agree :)
  4:08pm
Ike:

That song about panties squicked me out. It radiated rapeyness.
  4:08pm
das:

I vote for an anarchist playlist.
  4:08pm
Matt from Springfield:

As a contrarian, I won't agree with any of you! :)
  4:09pm
Ornery:

I agree with everyone but Ike :)
  4:10pm
Matt from Springfield:

And THAT's what brings us all together! Enjoying the same tunes and each other's company, without agreeing on some (or all!) of what we say! I think we've achieved that, das! :)
  4:10pm
fred:

@Ornery: I like you already, people who agree with me tend to be boring
  4:10pm
Alison Porchnik:

This is a song that makes me want to throw my panties at someone. To no one there. Not even the chair. Or Obama.
  4:11pm
Ornery:

I don't even agree with myself. Deal.
  4:12pm
Joe Bacon:

Wow, Tom Jones meets Kenny Rogers. I'm just waiting to see if Tom will get into the roast chicken business, too!
  4:13pm
Nate in Detroit:

Sounds almost Tom Waits-y...is that Marc Ribot on guitar?
  4:13pm
Droll:

I didn't realize Irwin believed every word of every song he played. I guess that explains all the Amanda...
The PMRC did wonders for record sales, maybe it's time for Tipper to make a comeback.
  4:14pm
Tom J.:

I'm selling off panties on ebay. Freakin' goldmine.
  4:15pm
Matt from Springfield:

BIG STAR!!!
Alex Chilton is dead - Long live Alex Chilton!
  4:16pm
Alex:

Now *these* lyrics should double-get Ike's goat
  4:17pm
pierre:

Thanks for playing this song. I needed it.
  4:17pm
Tom:

A few weeks ago you wondered on the air who IVANAXL's new persona is. It's Eddie Front.
  4:18pm
Alison Porchnik:

Big Star is a Yom Kippur specialty.
  4:19pm
pierre:

I agree to disagree.
  4:20pm
G:

I agree to be disagreeable
  4:25pm
Irwin:

Y'know, if you're like me -- and I know I am -- we always agree.
  4:28pm
Kenzo (lastever):

@Matt from Springfield: The "My Bathroom" lady croons about being free over Malcolm X's last recording before his assassination, ~25 minutes into live collage "Uncertainty is OK":
http://lastever.org/uncertainty
  4:28pm
Carmichael:

That was profound, Irwin. Yet, at the same time, dodgy.
  4:30pm
Matt from Springfield:

Irwin--bringing us MB, and the MBs, all in one episode!
  4:31pm
Matt from Springfield:

Wow, thanks for the link Kenzo!
Fascinating that she's found her way into a mash-up after all!

So trippy right now, playing the MBs and chatting about the philosophy of agreement and disagreement!
  4:33pm
G:

Can we correct you if you're not wrong? That's more fun.
  4:34pm
Carmichael:

I'm waiting for the Andy Williams tribute mash-up.
  4:36pm
Matt from Springfield:

Woooooo! Preferred by 8 out of 8 volunteers!
The Freeform Station of the Nation!
  4:37pm
Matt from Springfield:

Pre-recording? In the "Elevator to Hell"?? They might never come back!
  4:38pm
Aeromsmith Cover:

"No Love in an Elevator"
  4:42pm
Matt from Springfield:

Fi-NALLY!! Andy Williams tribute!
I think this was an Adult Contemporary #1 in the 60s..lemme check...
  4:43pm
Carmichael:

Thanks, Irwin!
  4:44pm
Matt from Springfield:

Yep. "In the US, the single spent four weeks at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and topped the Easy Listening chart for four weeks, peaking on both in April 1963. Williams' recording peaked at #1 on the Cashbox charts."

I learned this from Nat Roe's Reverse A/C Redux premium--now I recognize those songs when I hear them!
  4:45pm
Matt from Springfield:

CCC!! Also one of the world's best mashers-up!
Don't know where this "Hawaii" came from, but this is nice and ethereal.
  4:46pm
Matt from Springfield:

I wondered if anyone had formed a band called "Vera, Chuck and Dave". I for one think that would be a great name.

THOUGHT it sounded like the Beach Boys!! This must be the harmonies to "Cool Cool Water".
  4:51pm
Matt from Springfield:

Must be the Season of the Sandwitch.
  4:53pm
Mr Lowry:

On monads: You look into a donkey's eyes, and the donkey looks into yours, and you know the donkey is thinking donkey thoughts.
  4:58pm
G:

@Mr L.: Seems asinine somehow...?
  4:58pm
Dan B From Upstate:

Wednesday, April, 10.
  5:04pm
Matt from Springfield:

I remember this performance. I think I listened on Archive instead of live in fact.
  5:04pm
Laura L:

Apropos of nothing, saw a poster in Soho last evening--Glen Campbell's doing his goodbye tour next month, in spite of the Alzheimer's.
  5:05pm
G:

unless he forgets
  5:07pm
Matt from Springfield:

Carey's Problem again--LOVE their Led Zepplin song!
  5:08pm
ee:

This is my sister-in-law's band - I didn't know that until you played it, I liked it, and looked it up.
  5:08pm
ee:

you brought our family together
  5:09pm
Droll:

ee, Please tell her how much joy she brought to so many!
  5:09pm
das:

I'm sold on Carey's Problem. Where buy I has money?
  5:10pm
Irwin:

@ee: Which is your cuz?
  5:10pm
ee:

@Droll - I totally will. @das - I will find out and post next week.
  5:11pm
ee:

@Irwin: Lisa (singer)
  5:11pm
das:

Thanksee!
  5:12pm
Matt from Springfield:

Schmuel, the Lattin Yiddish Geegalo!!! You rule, Schmuel!
  5:14pm
Matt from Springfield:

Send Lisa our appreciation ee! Much like Amanda, they are a huge hit, at least in a small corner of the Listenerverse!
  5:15pm
Irwin:

I gotta sing LZ with the Hoof 'n Mouth in '13.
  5:15pm
ee:

@Matt and all: Will do for sure! I always knew she was awesome - but thanks Irwin for schooling me on how awesome she really is.
  5:18pm
ee:

@Irwin: do it.
  5:19pm
Alison:

"The ears are the doorposts of the soul." After listening to Schmuel, can I break my fast? Is there a midrash on this? Discuss.
  5:20pm
Irwin:

The entire CP album is amazing. Too bad it's been overlooked. There's a few songs I can't air because the subject matter is too creepy. EVEN FOR ME.
  5:20pm
Irwin:

Alison: Essen!
  5:23pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Alison: In the Sephardic tradition at least, the geegalo call signifies the conclusion of the Yom Kippur fast. But as to midrash? Better phone Linda Richman, I think she's on soon..
  5:25pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Irwin: I second your performing "Led Zepplin" at the next H&M!!
But whaddaya mean too disturbing even for YOU?! Just means that we'll have to get that CP album for ourselves soon!
  5:26pm
Matt from Springfield:

I also heart this Jonathan Coulton one!!
  5:27pm
Alison Porchnik:

No eating until this is clarified. Too bad the Baal Shem Tov remained silent on the Schmuel issue.
  5:27pm
Matt from Springfield:

If we ever succeed in electing Amanda as Prez, Mr. Coulton must be her Secretary of State!
  5:28pm
Ike:

Irwin, I'm pretty sure this song is making fun of you.
  5:28pm
Droll:

Matt, When you see the album art you'll understand better.
Irwin, That's probably the toughest song on the album to play. You're gonna need Bryce.
  5:29pm
Matt from Springfield:

Yay Keili!
  5:32pm
Matt from Springfield:

Cute :)
  5:38pm
Ajax:

Carey's Problem speaks: "Led Zeppelin was the sell out song. It has nothing to do with the rest of the album. "Arena of Shame" (coined from John Bradshaw) That first song was to get people's attention--to get them to listen. The healthy minded stopped at that song but the sicker ones (my brethren) (the masochists) kept going and listened to the rest of the mess."

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=314259
  5:42pm
Irwin:

They weren't selling out. They were buying in.
  5:43pm
Carmichael:

Ya swiped that from Swamp Dogg, Irwin. At least you have good taste.
  5:44pm
Irwin:

Wondder where Swamp Dogg stole it fromm?
  5:46pm
Matt from Springfield:

Oh SWEET!! TY TY Ajax!
I'm going to listen with the masochists to the rest of the album later! With titles like "Child o Satan Child o God", "Jesus Touched Me" and "Suicidal Teenage Landscape", I see how it gets weirder and weirder!
  5:47pm
Alison Porchnik:

This is neat.
  5:51pm
green mountain man mark:

Mountain!!!
  5:51pm
Parq:

A friend of mine buying Mountain tickets from Ticketron ca. 1974: I want to see the Mountains.
Snooty, large-breasted Ticketron girl: They're not called that, it's just 'Mountain'.
My friend: I was referring to you.
  5:51pm
green mountain man mark:

Blast from the past fav bands way back then
  5:52pm
Stanley:

That's me done - See ya Irwin. Have a good week til next week.
  5:52pm
Matt from Springfield:

Too bad the Western's imaginary, but the song is oh so real!!

Green Mountain digs Mountain! ;)
  5:53pm
green mountain man mark:

Kind of does have the spagett western thing going on
  5:55pm
green mountain man mark:

The lead singer had the Andre the Giant style disease. He was a big guy. They were from upstae NY even though many people thought they were a southern band.
  5:55pm
Matt from Springfield:

Throw some stuff away when in McCloud, CA! You'll know *just* where it will go!
  5:56pm
other david:

Great show Irwin, thanks!
  5:56pm
Matt from Springfield:

Like many Wednesday mornings, this one was particularly rough. Irwin's show is always such a relief, the perfect celebration of Hump Day!

Thanks Irwin! Thanks all you fine commenters!
Have a great evening!
