Favoriting October 4, 2012: Dusty In Paris

Listen to this show: Pop-up listen Pop-up player!

Artist Track Album Label Year Format Comments Approx. start time
Footage for this episode of The Dusty Show was gathered in Paris, France on a recent trip I took there with my wife, sister-in-law, and her husband. It was difficult for me to interview people there. The unfamiliarity and the language-barriers made me extra shy and hesistant. I suppose it is noticable. Still, it was fun to attempt it, an we all had the best of times in magical Paris. What a wonderful, if expensive, city! Can't wait to return one day. I do want to note that most of the music on this show was taken from the boom-box in our Paris lodgings. I have no idea who the artists were or what the songs were. Sorry about that. Anyway ... on with the show!

Oh, wait! One more thing. We are in the midst of a silent fundraiser at the station. We are already one week in to this two-week effort and my pledges are woefully LOW. If you could make a pledge, I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much!

That's it for another edition of The Dusty Show. I hope you enjoyed this audio trip to France. I feel so fortunate to have been able to spend a week in that wonderful city. I had few expectations going in and all were met and exceded, to say the least.

Thanks for those who have pledged during our Silent Fundraiser. My pledge count looks to be pretty anemic, but I know you'll come through in the end as you always do!

Don't forget, next week .... Fabi vs. Clay - DUEL III. From the way Fabio sounds, this will be the LAST ONE. I guess he's tired of being outclassed and drubbed by me, at least according to my sophisticated point-keeping system. I already have a 110-point advantage going into next week, so I stand a good chance of keeping my undefeated status! I hope you can tune in for this FOUR-HOUR DUEL starting a 1pm eastern tke next Thursday, 10/11/12. Other special surprises should be in-store too.

UNtil then, take care my friends. Thanks for your continued loyalty and support. Remember to email when you can ...

Hi, Clay! (second?)

Did you make a bootleg recording from Notre Dame? That was the most Catholic Mass-y organ I think I've ever heard! :)

Something happened to my first note -- Philo must have canceled me out through our ISP. :)

Funny you have an Aussie on--I was just about to comment that the French who speak English very well kind of remind me of an English "Antipodean" accent, like NZ or South African.

  6:11pm

@kat: Ah, thought that was another kata with her name disappearing!
Some browsers are like that--at work I have to manually refresh my comments, but every browser I've used keeps my name until I change it. Others mileage seems to vary.

Well the real winner of the debate last night once again are the corporations. As always.

Have to go back and listen for it!

  6:34pm
kat330:

Just for fun, Clay, did you ever go into a restaurant and order Freedom Fries?
  6:34pm
kata:

true that David ! actually so refreshing how they don't hide their fury; but maybe because I've lived in the west too long where "it's all good" !
  6:35pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Philo: It's unlikely to go a whole election and not be on the defensive at all--Romney was aggressive because he desperately needed to be. There's two more to go, and now Obama knows Romney's debating strategy better.

kata:

Camembert is one of my favorite cheeses.

And west coast rage only seems to come out when the people get in cars...
Avatar 6:37pm
Clay:

The debate was sad, in that, it was all about scaring people as opposed to inspiring people. Would prefer more of the latter. Romney was all red meat and "whatever it takes to get elected" statements. Obama was dignified, but America isn't so impressed with that, I guess. We'll see how it plays out.
  6:37pm
kat330:

We just had an appetizer of President's brie on ciabatta, Kata (nice rhyme and ties together a few threads here. :)
  6:38pm
Matt from Springfield:

We are nothing if not energetic! Not all of it is *good* energy, but still, good to know we have that going for us... :)
  6:38pm

Any good flea markets in Paris?
Avatar 6:38pm
Clay:

kat ... I did allude to Freedom Fries at dinner one evening. Didn't exactly initiate brays of laughter, nor peels. Peals?
  6:38pm
Philo Gristle:

@Matt I did think Obama was better than the pundits suggest; he put out his message, and avoided hitting back (seemed purposeful). He got better as the evening progressed, and Romney got worse. Mitt was bouncing up & down on the closing bit.
Avatar 6:39pm
Clay:

Phillip, yes, we went to a terrific HUGE flea market somewhere on the outskirts. The dollar is weakly, though.

But mostly I was disappointed by the lack of good debate. Nothing new there, of course.
  6:41pm
kata:

I missed last nights debate completely. sounds like I didn't miss much.
  6:41pm
Night Al:

So what I'm hearing here is most current French music sounds like Falco's "Rock Me Amadeus".
  6:41pm
david:

I feel like we're in for a dose of Les Rita Mitsouko if I haven't missed it already... :)
  6:42pm
Phillip in San Antonio:

You are right on that one kata.
  6:42pm
kat330:

I applaud the philosophy, Kata. I just don't think I can do it. I can't claim to be cat-like in every way, but loving fowl and fish (and cheese) is one at least. And stretching. Purring once in a while. :)
  6:43pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Philo: For sure, the media "narrative" has been stuck on Obama being ahead, they want to shake that up any way they can; I don't think Obama did as bad, either.

The economy is still not great--being aggressive with "IT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE!" isn't good politics--it was probably the right choice stand in defense against Romney's attack, and wait for his weak spot to show later on.
  6:44pm
david:

Julie did a masterful tape flip for you last week, Clay...
  6:44pm
kat330:

How fine is this? Philo's first U.S. election after he was naturalized was 2008 and Obama. He's one for one while I'm something like 2 for 10.
