Hullo dere. I'm currently heating up today's Italian music special -- lunch is served at noon. I won't be here next week, so I'd love to reach my fundraising goal TODAY. So please pitch in, if you can. Tanks!
  11:40am
Carmichael:

Hiya Tony. Waiting with bated breath (and dreams of linguini).

Italy 3 - Spain 0.
  12:08pm
Doug S.:

Just to lay it all on the table, Tony need's to raise only 194,000 Italian Lira ($130) in pledges during the show today to reach 100%. I just KNOW you dear listeners will come through.
  12:09pm
Ricardo Montalban:

Holy canoli! I nearly forgot about the show!
Avatar 12:09pm
tonyc:

Ciao, Manuelinni! Spain will get it's day in the sun.
Avatar 12:11pm
tonyc:

Holy canoli, Batman -- it's Ricardo & Doug!

Manuelinni di Bruxelles:

After Greece and Italy you must vinyl out the S of the pigs
Avatar 12:14pm
tonyc:

Senor Ricardo M. will be filling in for me next week -- let's get the fundraising out of the way today so he won't have to deal with it.
Avatar 12:18pm
tonyc:

@ Manuelinni di Bruxelles: That one went over my head -- non comprende! Maybe I'll get it an hour from now....
  12:18pm
Italian Job (and his comforters):

hello Tony,
sounding good so far!
Avatar 12:19pm
tonyc:

Fittingly, I found this Battiato record in a souvenir shop in Little Italy, mixed in with "kiss-me-I'm-Italian" t-shirts.
Avatar 12:20pm

Thanks, Italian Job!

Really digging this Battiato
Avatar 12:25pm

And greetings, NGH!
Avatar 12:27pm
tonyc:

Consider pledging today, everybody, Do it for station, stream, and show ... and snake. And sassparilla.
  12:30pm
Ricardo Montalban:

As the late Rev. Gene Scott used to say, "I just want the phones to light up with people that CARE! No gifts tonight. I want SACRIFICE!".
  12:31pm
Doug S.:

Someone make a quick pledge for a jolt of high-caffeine morale boost! A pledge of just $30 will kick Tony's total up to 75%. Go baby go!
Avatar 12:36pm
tonyc:

Yes, let's get that pledge monkey of our backs, so we can all enjoy our pasta.
Avatar 12:39pm
tonyc:

So, I'll be gone next week. The week after, I'll be doing an all-singles show -- all U.S. '60s psych.
  12:50pm
Carmichael:

Emerson Lake & Pasta.
Avatar 12:53pm
tonyc:

Ha!
Avatar 12:59pm
tonyc:

Time to retire 67% and move on toward the bright future of 100% of my goal raised. One full hour and not a single pledge ... it's time for a change! Vote pledge.
Avatar 1:06pm
tonyc:

Who knew Andrea Centazzo could be so funky?!?
  1:08pm
Ricardo Montalban:

This almost sounds like mid/late era Zappa
Avatar 1:09pm
tonyc:

Is it just me, or is the drummer almost absurdly fast?
  1:10pm
Ricardo Montalban:

It's fast, but maybe the weather is making you absurdly slow, too.
Avatar 1:11pm
tonyc:

Absurd in a good way, though....
Avatar 1:17pm
tonyc:

On the other hand, the fact that no one's pledged yet today is absurd in a not-good way. I'm getting mighty tired of the number 67 -- someone, anyone?!? The station really needs your support, and it's important too that the stream put in a good showing.
Avatar 1:18pm
tonyc:

Roberto Laneri, on now, was a member of Prima Materia.
  1:19pm
listener james from westwood:

i always wish i could give more, but i'd be deficit-pledging like a reaganite if i did. will join the vote for change via great music and freeform radio, however!
Avatar 1:20pm
tonyc:

Thanks, Listener James!
  1:26pm
listener james from westwood:

also very excited to be pitching in at the record fair. work's kept me from a lot of the chances to help w mailing, etc. at the magic factory, and i always feel awful for not being able to come down. assuming no catastrophes (no more halloween snow!!), i'll be taking tickets and selling dollar lps and the like in november!
Avatar 1:28pm

Sounds great -- I miss the FMU record fairs. The one in Portland doesn't compare, I'm afraid.
  1:29pm
Van in dc:

Boom.
  1:30pm
Ricardo Montalban:

I think the closest thing here might be the Night Owl Record Show.
Avatar 1:31pm
tonyc:

WOW!!!!!!! Thanks to the pledger who just brought us to our goal!!! Hurray and three cheers!!!
Avatar 1:32pm
tonyc:

BIG THANKS TO VAN THE MAN!!!

That was really moving, Van. (cough cough) But seriously. The entire Drummer Stream is wagging its hindquarters in your honor. And in the honor EVERYONE who has helped out WFMU past, present and future.

And speaking of which, all are encouraged to continue pledging!

Boom indeed!
  1:41pm
listener james from westwood:

w00t! thanks, van, and thanks to everyone who helped make that hound so happy!

Sounds like sped-up Roxy Music here -- literally, as in they're playing the LP at a fast speed.
Avatar 2:11pm
tonyc:

Or *were* playing sped-up Roxy Music, that is....
Avatar 2:23pm
tonyc:

So again, everybody, I'll be off next week -- but Richard Lindsay (our own Ricardo Montalban) we'll be filling in -- bringing you Halloween sounds, I believe.
Avatar 2:24pm
tonyc:

While he's Halloweening, I'll be Finlanding -- here's hoping I find some interesting music in Finland to share with you when I get back.
  2:24pm
Ricardo Montalban:

I won't play anyone's version of Monster Mash, I promise.
  2:25pm
Ricardo Montalban:

Uff da! Tony! Bring us back something made out of reindeer.
Avatar 2:27pm
tonyc:

Even cliched Halloween music is ten times better than cheesy Christmas music. I will look for records pressed on reindeer patties.
  2:28pm
Ricardo Montalban:

My mother in law went a few years back and I asked her to buy some Finnish music if she got the opportunity. I should've been more specific as she brought some really, really horrible Finnish gansta rap. I think the kids she asked were messing with her.
Avatar 2:32pm
tonyc:

I'm (eagerly) taking Finnish recommendations if anyone has any....
Avatar 2:35pm

Musical or otherwise....

I would so like to program this song to play in our elevators at work :)

Anything on Fonal Recs.
Avatar 2:37pm
tonyc:

Thanks, NGH -- what era is that? Current -- or older?
Avatar 2:44pm
tonyc:

I will be looking for anything on O Records, but don't expect much luck in that direction.
  2:46pm
northguineahills:

Fonal recs is mostly mid 90s-current.
  2:48pm
northguineahills:

I have recs of a lot of Finnish contemporary classical & electronic artists, but I'd have to go look to figure our how to spell their names.
  2:48pm
Doug S.:

This show isn't Finnish, it still has 12 minutes left! But some we'll have to say arrivederci until next Tuesday when fill-in extraordinaire Rich subs for our man Tony.

There are two more fine shows coming up LIVE here on the Drummer Stream:

At 6pm
GIVE THE DRUMMER SOME acknowledges the 219th anniversary of Marie Antoinette's demise with an all French rock show (thanks for the inspiration, Tony) live from Pittsburgh, PA

At 7pm
