Live Broadcast of the Encuentro NYC Colombian Music Festival

Colombia has an incredibly rich musical landscape - traditional, modern and everything in-between. And there is a major new wave of music sweeping South America's second most populous country and inspiring musicians worldwide. A global cumbia boom has bands and DJs mixing Colombian roots, electronics and rock.

But there is much more to Colombian music: Puya, currulao, joropo, and bambuco are among the myriad of traditional Colombian styles you'll hear today - sometimes in pure form, sometimes radically reimagined - at the Encuentro NYC Colombian Music Festival.

The Encuentro NYC is a massive gathering of musicians and bands from New York's burgeoning Colombian music scene, with special guests visiting from Colombia. Today we'll hear 3 hours of the festival broadcast live from Le Poisson Rouge, 158 Bleecker St. in Greenwich Village.

Massive thanks to Tech guru Irene Trudel, engineers Rob Christiansen and Juan Aboites and Katie Gentile for moral support; to our friendly board op Julie, to Anna and Pablo Mayor, producers of the Encuentro; and to Richie, Dustin, Bernie and everyone at Le Poisson Rouge.
