I never miscue a record. I am punctual, well-prepared, and dislike clutter. Outgoing and helpful, I'm always appropriately dressed. I do not behave erratically and have excellent penmanship. My CD's never skip, and I am in good health. I like all the notes, in any order.

Hi Cecile, I think we're in an undisclosed location in Southeast Asia, musically speaking, which is not a bad place to be.

Cecile:

very true Hugo.
But I was just hankering for a little Jew's harp there
  12:26pm
BSI:

I didn't know I was hankering until I heard it. ... but then was clearly, very heavily hankering.
  12:29pm
Hugo:

He's Finnish, from what I can find out. And not a Montagnard.
  12:35pm
Cecile:

Yep, I know.
Is Montagnard another word for Hmong?
  12:37pm
wiki:

"The French term Montagnard, meaning "People from the mountain(s)" refers to an indigenous people group generally from the Central Highlands of Vietnam. It includes individuals from multiple tribal groups, including the Bahnar, Jarai, Koho, Hmong and E De (or Rhade) peoples. Many Montagnards immigrated to the US states of North Carolina and South Carolina in the late 1970s after the Vietnam War. Many Montagnards that currently reside in North and South Carolina are Christians and teach Christianity to their people in their language. Each tribe has a different language."

At least at 91.1 we don't have to worry about the imminent holiday-theme format flip that occurs elsewhere on the dial...

Eight years of audience research creates a list of most-hated holiday-theme songs (see article and comments too):

  12:41pm
Hugo:

I believe they are different. Ok, we got a wiki quote. Montagnards are mostly in Vietnam, Hmongs mostly in Laos and northern Thailand. I read somewhere there's a Hmong community in Chicago.

  12:53pm
Cecile:

Lots of Hmong in Vietnam, too. We have the second biggest Hmong community in Minneapolis after Los Angeles.
  12:57pm
Cecile:

I actually did a bit of grantwriting for a Hmong organization about 16 years ago. They were working on teaching people to read in a Hmong language using Roman characterrs. The Hmong culture doesn't have a tradition of the written word, so you have 2 hurdles to overcome when they immigrate to the US.
  12:59pm
Cecile:

but their storytelling tradition is incredible:

tx for the vietfest...

Growing up during the latter part of the Vietnam (undeclared) War, I always had the impression VN was a dinky country. I guess that's due to the tunnel vision of the US media: "US big, VN dinky".

But when I came to studying, on my own, Asian cultures that I hadn't learned a lot about in school, VN is actually one of the *larger* Asian countries/cultures....

Large Viet population here in Sacramento, too. Which means large food selection. Also very large Indian population.
