Listener comments!

  7:00pm
Danne Duckcaller:

Hi Hearty Heroes
  7:01pm
Fredericks:

Let it roll, Oh Hearty One.
  7:02pm
Danne Duckcaller:

Hearty Rex Ryan?
  7:02pm
PLEDGE PIN:

hi Hearty,
been a shitty day, help me to see light and reason in my life!
  7:04pm
Devin Gristlewater:

Hiya Hiya Human People Friend-Types!
  7:04pm
Honey U. Kettlewater:

Walk toward the light or FO?
  7:06pm
Danne Duckcaller:

B-I-blank-blank-O and BIO was his NAME-O
  7:07pm
Philo Gristle:

What's to feel happy about it, PP? Don't do it, and then apologize.
  7:07pm
Wm aus Wien:

holy cow, antagonistic pleiotropy? Thats pretty heavy stuff Mr. White! I'm a population geneticist and that particular phenomenon is putting a real damper on my research. And i'll tell you, its true what they say about german toilets...
  7:08pm
Honey U. Kettlewater:

@Devin: Hiya, "Internet person"!
  7:09pm
Philo C. Gristlecorn:

Greets, Devin!
  7:10pm
Philo C. Gristlecorn:

A-pop-thosis = apotheosis??
  7:12pm
Honey U. Kettlewater:

Yes! Lots of spelunking throughout my teens here in southern Indiana!
  7:12pm
Devin Gristlewater:

Hello hello internet family! I tuned into GTDS earlier briefly but did not have a chance to say hello (because my hands were full of dusty books). Now the dusty books are gone and I am in a different state.
  7:13pm
Mike East:

Hey guys - I think I need to check out for a bit...just found out some guitar and bass stuff fell through the cracks for a WFUV gig tomorrow...don't tell WFUV
  7:13pm
Devin Gristlewater:

@Honey: Seriously? I thought spelunking was something that only happened in Batman movies and Chef Boyardee fever dreams.
  7:13pm
Philo C. Gristlecorn:

Sniffin' them tomes, eh? Smells musty!
  7:14pm
Philo C. Gristlecorn:

Mammoth cave was great, though the underwater rivers bubbled up in my knees a few weeks later.
  7:15pm
Honey U. Kettlewater:

The very best cave ever -- EVER -- was Boone's Mill cave on a farmer's private property. Used to go there a couple time a year. One New Year's we took a ton of candles and my guitar and .... well, glorious acoustics and dynamite light show. Unfortunately, not long after I left for college, they turned it into a commercial cave. Haven't been to see what they've done with it now as Squire Boone Caverns. :/
  7:15pm
Philo C. Gristlecorn:

Hiya Mike! I won't tell, even if I knew WFMUV.
  7:16pm
Nick Cave:

Fine!
  7:16pm
Honey U. Kettlewater:

Hi / bye Mike!

Devin, this area is rife with limestone caves. My HS gang of geeks really got into caving for a few years.
  7:19pm
Honey U. Kettlewater:

Devin, *surely* Chef Boyardee has never touched your lips?!
  7:20pm
PLEDGE PIN:

yeh OJ is a great guy, great actor and a tremendous personality!
  7:21pm
Devin Gristlewater:

@HUK: Wow, I uh... I've never really wanted to live outside of a city before, but the idea of getting to explore caves is quite enticing. Maybe it's not too late to find one of my own. Maybe some cave geeks might even already be living there and we could play D&D together.

@PCG: Trying not to smell 'em too closely, don't want a lung full of skin particles.

@NC: HHahahahahah
  7:21pm
Danne Duckcaller:

"New Jersey Home of Whatever, What Have You" actually would be a perfect license plate for here.
  7:21pm
Honey U. Kettlewater:

Dusty books? [late catch-up] Books written by Clay Pigeon?
  7:22pm
Philo C. Gristlecorn:

Chef Boy Hearty, now that's another matter.
  7:23pm
Devin Gristlewater:

Once, a very, very long time ago when I was a tiny naive person who thought Spaghetti-Os might taste as fun as their commercials looked. But let us not speak of that disgusting salty incident anymore.
  7:24pm
Devin Gristlewater:

Did Clay Pigeon write a book?!??! I was listening to his album earlier this very day, but I had no idea he had writt-- oh. OHHHH. OHHHHHH. Ahahahaheehehaheehaha. Well played, Honey, well played.
  7:26pm
PLEDGE PIN:

hack them on that little thin spot on their head to kill them.
Skin em, rid them of their fat, then cook their meat.
Nice alligator sandwich
  7:26pm
Honey U. Kettlewater:

Backing up yet again: So what about German toilets, Wm of Wien? I remember being impressed by Swiss toilets my first time there.

@Devin: While the natural beauty locally is much to be proud of, the community trying to destroy every shred of it is *not*, so you have to pick your non-metropolis areas carefully.
  7:28pm
PLEDGE PIN:

got my menorah out today, set it up and put a wick in ready for saturday night.
  7:31pm
Honey U. Kettlewater:

Aren't bodies preserved in a peat bog?
  7:32pm
dpcd:

"We have no culture except that appropriated from our vast population of immigrants, some of whom are actually still living here legally and paying taxes and not going to the hospital ER for a pregnancy test they won't end up paying a dime for."
...No, it just won't fit on a license plate, Hearty. Sorry, NJ. The minimum wage debate is especially shameful because most of you are working under the table and your Governor knows this.
  7:34pm
Honey U. Kettlewater:

When Hearty commits to a full sentence -- punctuated with a period -- then he'll be ready to commit to something bigger. :)
  7:34pm
Devin Gristlewater:

@Honey: This is a very good point [as is the peat bog one]. I tend to get very caught up with a single appealing element of a location, and forget to look for the other less appealing ones until it is too late and oh no I am living inside of a future subterranean mall.

In other news: Where does the "hybrid" term come from, never made the connection between that and the X-Files one...
  7:35pm
Philo C. Gristlecorn:

Not a Hybrid or Grey, methinks Hearty is from Zeta Reticuli.
  7:35pm
PLEDGE PIN:

worse than death is when you see old people in homes, total vegetables, the living dead?
  7:35pm
Devin Gristlewater:

(in relation to aliens)
  7:36pm
Philo C. Gristlecorn:

@Devin I think it came from the abduction circles in the 80s, from whence Chris Carter grabbed it. Might even have been the contactee movement of yesteryear. I know too much about this stuff.
  7:39pm
Honey U. Kettlewater:

Devin, Philo loves Fortean and cryptozoology topics and has written reviews of books on the subject.
  7:40pm
Devin Gristlewater:

Oddly enough my knowing too much about that stuff begins and ends with The X-Files (which I know far too much about). So I shall take your words for it. I once tried to read that Mothman book but it scared me with its monster talk and surprising lack of Richard Gere crying dramatically.
  7:42pm
Honey U. Kettlewater:

Point Pleasant, WV .....ooooooooooo
  7:43pm
Philo C. Gristlecorn:

I much prefer the Owlman of Cornwall, myself.
  7:43pm
Devin Gristlewater:

Is that actually I thing? Please tell me more about the Owlman of Cornwall.
  7:45pm
Devin Gristlewater:

*actually A thing?
  7:46pm
Honey U. Kettlewater:

Lentils.
  7:46pm
Philo C. Gristlecorn:

It's really just the Cornish Mothman, in all likelihood created by the great trickster huckster magician Tony Shiels, spinning a tall tale. An owl the size of a man, hissing with pointy ears and red eyes to a couple of kids in the mid 70s.
  7:46pm
Danne Duckcaller:

Have a good evening Hearty Folks :)

Time to hit the road for the night.
  7:46pm
Honey U. Kettlewater:

And black beans. Miracle nutrition.
  7:47pm
dpcd:

Richard Gere owns a farm out near mine. He seems okay, doesn't even pretend to know how to farm. Is that wrong for him or anybody with the urge (and money) to try?
Maybe he read "One Man's Meat" by EB White and got excited.
  7:47pm
Philo C. Gristlecorn:

I sorta wrote about it/Shiels here a few years back: http://bit.ly/jkS5pP
  7:48pm
Devin Gristlewater:

Enjoy the night Danne! Eat some beans and lentils for us!
  7:49pm
Honey U. Kettlewater:

@dpcd: It's a sight better than NOT trying something like that. (IMO)
  7:49pm
PLEDGE PIN:

Hearty,
what religion were your parents?
  7:50pm
Devin Gristlewater:

@Philo: Thanks! I shall read your article upon my return home/later tonight/so much later tonight it is tomorrow. I am very interested in huckster magicians and the like. Also early adventurer people-folk.
  7:51pm
PLEDGE PIN:

do we wait in the tower to be resurrected?
  7:53pm
dpcd:

@ Honey- International Maritime Organization? Forgive my stupidity.
  7:53pm
Honey U. Kettlewater:

Yeah, Devin, Ricky Jaye and his ilk.
  7:53pm
Mike East:

oh man, I really screwed up (sigh).

what's this about lentils? I made some delicious lentils on Sunday. yum.
  7:54pm
Honey U. Kettlewater:

In My Opinion.
  7:54pm
PLEDGE PIN:

at the end of Flavia the heretic she gets flayed alive. It is punishement for showing her tits to jesus and twinking her nipples at him!
  7:54pm
Philo C. Gristlecorn:

Me too. Even fiction (Prof Challenger, e.g.). And late at night is perfect time to read nonsense! Wait. It's perfect time all day for that.
  7:55pm
Honey U. Kettlewater:

@Mike: Me, too, on Saturday! Must have wafted the idea Eastward. ")

Actually, I had that 14-lb. turkey carcass to render into broth early Saturday and decided then to use it as a base for some truly tasty lentils.
  7:56pm
Devin Gristlewater:

@Mike: I don't know but I am seriously rethinking my plan to eat plain old kidney beans (my standard meal) and procuring some lentils to eat instead/in tandem with the kidney beans.
  7:56pm
Philo C. Gristlecorn:

Even I, not a huge fan of lentils, gobbled Honey's stewy lentil stew with a hearty appetite.
  7:57pm
Honey U. Kettlewater:

@Devin: Lentils cook up so much more quickly than kidney beans, too. I like to mix half and half with split peas.
  7:57pm
Devin Gristlewater:

OooOoOooOooo GOOD Idea!
  7:58pm
Mike East:

oh man, HUK! I used my homemade turkey stock for Minestrone. I was really upset that I had to use boxed turkey/chicken stock for the lentils. not the same at all. I did make some turkey meatballs to put in it, though, cuz I had some ground that I had to use.
  7:58pm
Devin Gristlewater:

Have a good night everyone!
  7:59pm
Honey U. Kettlewater:

Good ol' oatmeal, yes! Wishing you well, Hearty, and to all you good people here, too!

'Night!
  7:59pm
Philo C. Gristlecorn:

Night, owl!
  1:51am
Jk:

What is this amazing heartiness?
