Listener comments!

  9:10am dale:

good morning - digging this trippy opening set. richard hawley?
  9:27am Mike East:

i met gary burton last week! i believe he's recording a new record
  9:39am scott:

Jimmy Norman, who added the verses to "Time Is On My Side," was a member of the Coasters from the late '60s until sometime in the '90s. And Jai Winding is Kai's son.
  9:40am Mike East:

in fact, he rented the vibes from us. Nice guy. his rep from Mack Ave records is cool, too. He used to do a lot of work with WBGO and we discussed the importance of terrestrial radio for a while.
  9:44am Jack:

Ed Cassidy RIP
  9:45am scott:

John Sayles made a lovely film, The Secret of Roan Inish, inspired by the silkie legend, although I think they referred to them as selkies in the film. If I remember correctly, they're seals who can take human form.
  9:59am green mountain man mark:

hmm. never heard of the silkie except for the breed of chicken.
  10:12am green mountain man mark:

Isn't it strange that our eyeballs move together synchronized? Animal eyeballs do that too. I can't think of any other part of the body that does this. Just the eyeballs.
  10:17am Mike East:

chameleons' eyes can move independently of each other.
  10:28am Philo Gristle:

Damn, missed the Nico Fidenco song early on. His "Supercolpo shake" from some forgotten heist movie remains my fave italo poliziottechi soundtrack gem.... Hi Mike!
  10:30am Philo Gristle:

Loved that Sayles film, though Limbo remains my fave of all his films. Frank Black did a good selkie song some years back.
  10:30am Mike East:

Hello fellow Finn!
  10:37am scott:

Ed Cassidy was 89. He was in his mid-'70s the last time I saw him play, and he was still kicking ass bigtime. He was already well into his 40s when Spirit formed, which must have seemed positively ancient in the hippie era.
  10:38am Philo Gristle:

Was Maurice unraveling at this point of his career, going all grotesque with his serenades?
  10:39am scott:

Also, Cass kept drumming almost to the end. I remember him playing his official farewell gig a couple of years ago—at the age of 87!

Hi Bob - I sent you an email an hour ago or so - please check it and pass the info on to Michael also. Thanks!
  9:29am dave heasman:

I think "Can I Get A Witness" was 1963.
  9:31am dave heasman:

And the vinyl Anthology of American Folk Music came out in 1952, didn't it?
  9:52am dave heasman:

My bad; it is 1965 for Earl Van Dyke - sounds worse than the 1963 record
