Not even one comment? Jeez. It's 12:15 already.
  12:15pm
laura:

I can't be the only one who's excited about this week's guest.
  12:15pm
laura:

Can I?
  12:17pm
common:

rock
  12:18pm
Tom Lyle:

Of course we're aall excited! My big toe is about to pop out of my boot!
  12:19pm
laura:

That's inappropriate.
  12:22pm
InBrkly:

Love GI.
  12:22pm
laura:

Boycott Stabb!
  12:26pm
SteveL:

I also approve of this week's guest. Peer Pressure is one of the best guest features going. I learn lots.
  12:27pm
RSE:

I'm GI! I'm GI!
  12:30pm
InBrkly:

The liner notes to Complete History say that tapes were damaged or loss and apologized for the sound quality but I don't understand why they didnt' just transfer from other CD issues or even from vinyl.
  12:31pm
InBrkly:

I think that would have been better than the glitches you get on the compilation.
  12:32pm
Rafael "Infidado" Defrancesco:

The Infidado is ready too burst out in revolution..... But its cold.....
  12:34pm
DC fan:

Question for Stabb: I keep hearing that there was some misogyny in the old DC hardcore days, is that true? I've also read that some girls/women on the scene were sexually assaulted and/or raped? I thought DC HC was all positive, whaddup?
  12:36pm
SteveL:

Really glad to keep hearing this Tuxedomoon.
  12:37pm
SteveL:

DC fan: Good question, but, SOME misogyny? It was pretty much a boys club. Most of the girls I knew (Midwest) were pretty tough and didn't take a lot of crap.
  12:38pm
BSI:

Greets, fellow DC creatures. Work may take me from these headphones but diggin' it for the nows...
  12:38pm
Tom Lyle:

The "glitches" on the compilation, Volume One in particular, were the fault of the CD pressing plant. Volume One was re-pressed, but Dr. Strange never put a label on it to designate it as a repress/remaster. So if you find a "new" pressing of Volume One it will sound much better, especially The Fun Just Never Ends stuff.
  12:38pm
eyenoise:

I've gone my whole life without hearing this AMAZING Tuxedomoon song until TWICE this week on WFMU!
  12:39pm
RSE:

Were you channeling Dave Vanian on You?
  12:40pm
BSI:

Thanks for the details, Tom. It was awful to get my hands on Vol.1 years ago and the CD glitches started just at my favorite bits... And lo, how I cursed with the adult language...
  12:40pm
Bob the Cal Guy:

Just installed app, very cool.
  12:42pm
InBrkly:

Oh that is excellent news! Thanks Tom, I'll buy another copy. I had so much of this on vinyl but years ago I sold it all when I was short on rent.
  12:46pm
BSI:

Thanks to moving back & forth across the country in the '90s, I ended up selling off all my vinyl back then... Slowly building up the collection again now. The GI vinyl reissue of JOYRIDE was much appreciated....!
  12:48pm
Tom Lyle:

InBrkly: to make sure you get a fresh mastering of Vol. 1, (Vol. 2 is fine), order it directly from DrStrange.com and let them know that you want one from the latest run. Thanks!!
  12:50pm
andymorphic:

wow...gi's and tuxedomoon...fantastic
  12:53pm
andymorphic:

question....what was the whole "boycott stab" thing about?
  1:00pm
KWE:

im GI im GI!!!
  1:02pm
Chris from DC:

Wow, Lie, Cheat and Steal takes me back.
  1:09pm
KWE:

DIANNE ASK JOHN WHAT WAS THE REASONING BEHIND PUTTING THE SONG SHEER TERROR ON ALMOST EVERY RECORD
  1:13pm
DC fan:

Boys club is one thing: but rape/sexual assault is something else. Even tough girls can get raped/assaulted. Especially if boys in the scene are cool with it because girls are poop.
  1:16pm
Todd 76%:

Hi Diane! Loving the show and the Stabby interview. Still remember when John got jumped. The whole band wanted to be there for that benefit but most of us couldn't get out of commitments. Glad William could do all that he did! Hope Stabb got the check I sent back then, and glad to hear him sounding so chipper today! Big up to Tom Lyle too!
  1:24pm
Tom Lyle:

Yeah, hey Todd! The 2007 reunion was for the Stabb surgery benefit -- Me on Guitar, Brian Baker on bass, and WIllliam from 76 on drums, the 2010 Black Cat DC reunion was also a benefit, but this time for our friend who couldn't afford his brain suregery co-pays. That was the You/Crash line-up. 12/29 Black cat reunion with Scream and Youth Brigade (DC) is the GI Make An Effort ep 1981-2 line up with Brian Baker on guitar, me on bass, and Colin Sears (Dag Nasty) on Drums. Stabb is always, always on vocals!!
  1:26pm
KWE:

GREAT LINEUP TOM
  1:30pm
DC fan:

Has Diane even gotten a word in? It'd be great to have some of the playlist questions asked.
  1:33pm
KWE:

HAHAHA
  1:35pm
Chris from DC:

So true about Bethesda! A slight breeze used to knock out the power.
  1:36pm
KWE:

NO MORE CAT TALK!!!
  1:48pm
KWE:

ASK STABB ABOUT ALL THE LETTERS I WROTE TO HIM AS A KID.
  1:49pm

"Like" x 1,000.
  1:53pm
DC fan:

I didn't expect this to be so tedious but it's like a rambling monologue that never ends or gets very interesting

I'm shoveling snow to the wisdom of John Stabb

Somewhere there is some wisdom in his words. I just can't hear them, other than in his lyrics.

I've got the Glee Club e.p.

The Glee Club LP is genius!!
  2:09pm
DamonomaD:

Rambling and self important. Cmon Stabb.
  2:11pm
Luck:

Haters gonna hate...
  2:14pm
DC fan:

Not a hater, but c'mon, he can't even get the first song out on his playlist without rambling in a self absorbed way for 10 minutes. I pity the 'editor' of his future book. YAWN. Turning off, now...
  2:14pm
dcp@:

Chris, Glover Park is the same way, EXCEPT during Sandy. We didn't get a flicker during that one...
  2:16pm
Luck:

See the difference is that, even if Stabb is rambling, he's done something that merits his being on the radio.
  2:18pm
Cheri Pi:

late for class!
  2:19pm
BSI:

Pi!
  2:19pm
Mike East:

I think this guy might be the devil
  2:19pm
dcp@:

Robert Johnson was a jazz guitarist?
  2:20pm
dcp@:

Later Pi
  2:21pm
DC fan:

It might merit having his songs played on the radio, but I don't care how much I like a musician: If they're calling in to be interviewed I expect them to hold a decent conversation, not just a rambling monologue. It's just painfully dull to try to listen to. Fanboys gonna fanboy, enjoy.
  2:21pm
Cheri Pi:

Hi!
  2:24pm
Jim:

Sorry Im late..what did I miss? Oh Damn..John Stabb? Love him
  2:25pm
Cheri Pi:

I have no problem with any guest of this show rambling on. They have something to say and deserve to be heard.
  2:26pm
Jim:

Govt Issue "YOU" is my top Lp of all time
  2:26pm
dcp@:

I think DC punkers in general tend to be a bit long-winded.
  2:27pm
dcp@:

speaking of long-winded, I asked for Svenonius's new book for Xmas...
  2:29pm
dcp@:

let's hear some Alec MacKaye!
  2:30pm
DC fan:

I dunno, I've heard a ton of DC punk interviews and while they might have long answers: they don't just turn the interview into a total rambling monologue. It's not Diane's fault, Stabb is just full of himself I'm guess and has no 'off' switch.
  2:33pm
Cheri Pi:

OHIO!!
  2:35pm
Jim:

There needs to be a DVD or something of that show GI did in 2010..amazing show
  2:38pm
Mike East:

what do I get for lunch: Afghan or Mexican?
  2:40pm
DC fan:

Nice, is that a photo of Stabb w/a bunch of porn vids? Boys club indeed. Some things never change!
  2:40pm
dcp@:

..gotta take the compost out, be back in a minute...
  2:41pm
DC fan:

Wow, Stabb is one to talk (and talk and talk) about not being able to let go of the old DC punk stuff...It sounds like his past is still his only present.
  2:43pm
Luck:

Sorry, DC. You're still just a "fan". Without people like Stabb, you're nothing...
  2:43pm
G:

Wow, tough crowd :)
  2:44pm
northguineahills:

@Mike: ?por qué no ambos?
  2:44pm
DC fan:

That's a pretty big assumption there, Luck. Sorry I'm not a fanboy of every single utterance by every musician I might like.
  2:45pm
Jim:

I like hearing this stuff..if you don't..there is always the option to turn it off..
  2:45pm
KP:

Hey DC listen to the archives or something . Be civil.
  2:47pm
Mike East:

@ngh, cuz its expensive and I'd have to tip both delivery guys. The fact that Allan has to pay with a credit card just made our decision. kabuli palow it is.
  2:49pm
dcp@:

ok, I'm back.
  2:49pm
Emile:

Holy Shit John Stabb, hero!
  2:51pm
DC fan:

Sorry, wasn't trying to be un-civil, made no disparaging comment to anyone on the playlist until they did. Just expressing my opinion about how the guest sounds at this particular time.

I've said what I wanted to say, thanks!
  2:52pm
dcp@:

History Repated = great.
  2:53pm
Emile:

Please tell him from an old DC kid how much GI still means to one geezer still listening...
  2:54pm
dcp@:

History Repeated = REALLY great! Man.
  2:55pm
BSI:

What Emile said. If it weren't for the GI shows at the Hung Jury Pub in the mid 80s, I would have had no teenage years at all, or so it seems.
  2:55pm
Luck:

Then why do you call yourself DC Fan? Sounds kinda lame. Just turn the radio to another station and stop posting your negativity. I can make up my own mind on what I'm heraing without your 2 cents.
  2:56pm
Jim:

Saw GI in 87..at CBGBs...amazing
  2:59pm
Emile:

Apropos of nothing, I remember his record reviews in the WDC Period... just freaking awesome...
  3:02pm
Emile:

Sounds like John has struggled and watched as a bunch of other folks blow up / get famous and tried not to take it hard. Hope he's gonna be OK.
  3:02pm
Jim:

awesome interview
  10:48pm
John Stabb:

Wow, I sure didn't mean to get all this drama going on a message board but I guess I'm doing something right. I'm aware that I do ramble because I've got ADHD.And I openly spoke about taking depression meds and all.
Doing interviews over the phone (not face to face) sometime make me anxious but I'm glad some people here think I wasn't being an ego-monster. I only heard about some of the questions when Diane gave them to me. I wasn't looking at my computer screen but just sitting somewhere talking on the phone.
As for the DC fan asking about rape & all, I wouldn't doubt that Diane felt this was some idiot trying to stir shit up. If she asked me DC fan's obnoxious questions, I'd merely say this: Every music scene has had it's share of attacks or rapes and WDC has had a a few I have heard about only recently. But discussing sensitive matters like these can easily bring lawsuits. This so-called DC fan does want to stir the shit up and this was certainly not the open format for that to take place. Neither is the Salad Days Doc (which a few people have decided subjects such as rape need to be included. I sure don't think that it needs to be in there either. Rape should be an issue that should be dealt with by both parties and is a horrible thing for a person to endure. Charges should be pressed immediately but some (for whatever reasons they choose) these painful situations come up many years later, I'm no lawyer so I certainly wasn't going to get into people's names which I'm sure this DC fan would've hoped to get into.

Aside from all this, Diane is an incredibly talented and generous friend and I felt honored to be chosen on her brilliant show. I'm glad most of you enjoyed it. It was fun to take part in.

write on,
john
