Holly in NC:

Hi Matt! Joe, loved the Marty Robbins. Will be quiet for a bit as when reaching for my FM cover cd spilled ~20 oz cold h2o all over myself, my pillows, my comforter, my evening's reading material...so regrouping is taking a while & I'm quite chilly. erf.
  1:22am
Matt from Springfield:

"Cut My Friend Down"!! I loved this the first time I heard it--Mr. Schaubroeck is due for a revival.

@droll jeez I have no idea either
  1:24am
Matt from Springfield:

@Droll: It's called: Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas!

  1:27am
fred von helsing:

LIIS now what do you think of bluegrass
  1:27am

is there any kind of folk festival in eesti. there has to be.
  1:32am
Looms:

A film about Joe Strummer?!?
  1:33am
Holly in NC:

@droll, oh, have 3 of those - 1 in car, 2 in sink. What's horrible is that I NEVER keep open drinkware near bed after that spider-drinking experience, but spiders are dead/sleeping/whatever they do when it's cold, so figured OK. Foegot about my inate klutziness.

G:

Here's some info about Joe Strummer's radio show:

Liis:

ofcourse we have big folk festivals, but thats different..
  1:35am
Matt from Springfield:

DJ Julie has played Darkwave from Lithuania or Latvia, and a very strange and wonderful acoustic piece by Lau Nau from Finland--Eesti folk would go well after that.

Torpedo factory is cool. But this across harbor where they have fairly big and crappy concerts,
  2:08am
G:

@Droll: I'd guess that yes, electronic music making will be even way huger than now, but Autotune will be "warm" sounding nostalgia, like 80s computer effects seem to many people now. Someone on an FMU stream will be curating a show of autotone artistry done in that oldskool early-century way...

Best to you also, Cheri (and everyone else in the Surface Noise family)

Droll:

G, I hope you're wrong. I think that sort of signature overkill is rejected over time and not every fad is remembered after 40 years. Autotune is likely to be remembered like crooning is thought of today: a way to sound silly and dated. Volume wars (Wall-to-wall limiting) will also be remembered without affection as the sound of the early 21st century. I doubt collectors will archive the 297 overloads-per-second MP3s for the sound.

Matt from Springfield:

I've got a somewhat early start tomorrow, so off to bed now!
Thanks Joe for an excellent Christmas show!

And since this is the last live playlist I expect to have fun on for the next days, I wish everyone a Merry Christmas, and a happy and safe holiday time! Enjoy yourselves in Alexandria VA, KP and G!

I confess I'd be happy to come abroad and attend the Arrington de Dionyso WFMU support gig if I had the money (and the visa). Will we Europeans enjoy it live online?

Holly in NC:

I like this, new to me, but sounds old, yes?

G:

Here's the thing. It's part of cultural history, and with the passage of time people therefore tend to just let it be what it was rather than rooting against it, as we are likely to do in our current context.

When a given world series or super bowl is over, people just let it be what it was, and don't bother rooting for something that can't be changed any more.

@Looms: No, I'm sorry, we're not broadcasting it. We want people to come out and buy tickets! We may record it and broadcast it later, though. I hope we do.
