  8:36am Parq:

Hey, Doug. Checking in briefly. *Love* that photo.
  8:47am duke:

I can hear it now, "Stop that clowning around and pay attention"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48am Doug Schulkind:

Great to see you, Parq. And you too, duke. Red rubber noses are in the box by the door. Rainbow wigs are not provided, however.
  8:50am Van in DC:

Hi there Doug and peoples. And Bozo. Familiar pic :)

Super busy at work, hopefully will ease up around mid-program for me...will try to be listening in :)
  8:51am listener james from westwood:

good morning, doug, and happy friday all! likewise swamped with work, which this best-of show will make so much more pleasant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53am Doug Schulkind:

Not only the music on today's show is my favorite from each 2012 playlist, I am using my favorite images, too. Today's pic came courtesy of VAN IN DC. Thanks Van!

Brilliant day to you, Sir LJFW!
  8:55am Parq:

Big ups to Van - that just may be the single best playlist pic ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57am Doug Schulkind:

I wholly agree, Parq. But why did he have to photograph me from my bad side?
  8:59am ndbob:

morning Doug and everyone!
  9:01am trlsh:

Happy first playlist of 2013. Doug. Listeners.

Uncle Michael, I knows all and I spins all.
  9:04am Uncle Michael:

Ok, so tell me which songs I'm missing. It's not too late.
  9:06am listener james from westwood:

that photo just begs for the context behind it, but it's also fun just to imagine what it might be.
  9:08am Paul Sherratt:

I was pumped at ten minutes to the start of the show with that ' Nzaou ' track - didn't catch the rest of the details
  9:14am glenn:

Oily to bed, oily to rise.
This sounds NWW list worthy

Glad you're hearing this Vinny Golia. He makes me swoon. Any idea what you've got in store for this Monday's D:O RADIO? (I'll keep it a secret.)
  10:45am Uncle Michael:

I could totally do a show of songs that were omitted from previous themes. This week's show was songs about record labels and Devo's "Be Stiff" occurred to me too late to use it.
  10:46am Jeff G:

Need you even ask, UM? YES.
  10:51am Jeff G:

@Kat. It was too late for inclusion in the voice-tracked show which was uploaded last Friday. By the time I thought of it, the episode was in the can. So, I played it last night on the live show.
  11:14am kat330:

It's a beautifully sunny, chilly day here in So IN.

@UM: Ah, gotcha.
  11:14am listener james from westwood:

I'm going to have to do Clowns Redux.
  11:14am glenn:

i do my best thinking in the can as well.
  11:15am kat330:

@ndbob: Where are you considering? We're considering a relocation as well. Just so hard for Philo to leave what is at least a stable job situation.
  11:16am Uncle Michael:

I need more musical metamucil, the playlist laxative.

@Holly: Actually your part of the country has come under consideration, along with the NW and Vermont.

  11:20am ndbob:

@kat I'm thinking of a medium sized college town with more culture, more restaurants etc then here - and not too expensive to live in - several places come to mind - including Iowa City and Bloomington
  11:21am ndbob:

The NW and Vermont are also on my list
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am Doug Schulkind:

Nowhere I'd rather be than Out with the In Clowd!
  11:22am kat330:

@Jeff G: Yeah, I was trying to think of some clown songs that could be parodied into a "cloud" song by effecting a bad cold. :)
  11:22am Uncle Michael:

I'm disgusted that the phrase "clown chowder" just popped into my head.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am Doug Schulkind:

Or maybe more accurately, In with the Out Clowd.
  11:23am Uncle Michael:

I've looked at clowns from both sides now....
  11:23am kat330:

Bloomington would be great! Just too bad it's in Indiana (at least with the current leaders-that-be). Just don't make them like Lee Hamilton anymore.

@Doug: I think that's what the little clown in your picture is thinking.
  11:25am Uncle Michael:

I had some dreams...they were clowns in my coffee...clowns in my coffee...
  11:26am ndbob:

@kat very true.. the interesting thing about North Dakota is even though it's fairly conservative, it's not invariably so - we have a great new, moderate Democratic Senator - Heidi Heitkamp

I gotta find this Abbas Mehrpouya.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am Doug Schulkind:

@kat330
Speaking of unorthodox Jewish religious headware, I have an "X" yarmulke. It was created and presented (and sold) at an installation Soho gallery (the Paula Cooper Gallery, I believe) back when Spike Lee's Malcolm X film was showing and everyone under the age of 23 was wearing "X" baseball caps. It was also a time of tension in NYC between the African American and Jewish communities after a number of high-profile incidences of violence.

My favorite advert blurb from back then:

"You've read the hat, now see the movie."
  11:38am Holly in NC:

@uncle michael - that made me spit out my coffee! (full disclosure actually tea, but spit it was) ;-)
  11:39am Uncle Michael:

Happy to help with the expectoration, Holly.
  11:41am Uncle Michael:

I have a leather yarmulke that's half red, half blue, split by a white lightning bolt. Some will know the significance of this iconography.
  11:42am ndbob:

@Doug sounds interesting I remember the large assortment of yarmulkes in my parents house - many from bar mitzvahs and weddings of people I didn't know
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am Doug Schulkind:

@UM
I download that Mehrpouya a few years back. Just Googled around, but can't find the original source. The blog Blue Beat in My Soul posted a 7-inch, but the link is dead.
  11:44am kat330:

Maggie sounds quite a bit like Minnie Driver to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am Doug Schulkind:

@ndbob
As "cool" as the X yarmulke is, the truth is, I've never taken it out of the box. Still, it was worth it just to tell the story.
  11:44am Holly in NC:

I adore Maggie Nichols
  11:45am kat330:

Quite possibly I made that comment last time around, heh!
  11:45am Uncle Michael:

I'll keep hunting for it Doug.

A yarmulke-wearing fellow passed us and said, "It's a long way from Upsala College." Turns out he's a local rabbi and longtime JM in the AM listener.

spotted a kid wearing a simpsons yarmulke at the movies once. this was near teaneck, nj, whose zipcode shows up quite often when you're doing a jm mailing at the magic factory.
many thanks for the fine retro-show, doug, and be well, all!

There are more than a few regular JM listeners who learned to love the Drummer Some!

Just testing something here, oh, say Doug: Have you been notified of our pledge portion by anyone at FMU?
  12:29pm Doug Schulkind:

@kat330
The station doesn't give any of the pledge/fulfillment into to the individual DJs (unless we ask for some specific info). Do you have a question? I'd be happy to ask Joe McGasko at the station who handles this stuff.
