Well, there's a tentative NHL agreement now, but it hasn't been totally agreed to by everyone yet.

If it doesn't get agreed to, then maybe they just can't stop not starting.

Howdy, Mike! Hope everyone in the community has avoided or prevailed over the flu that's going around.

Hey Honey Water. My 7 yr. old got it last weekend. She's still got a nasty cough though. This was the first year I got a flu shot and it seems to be working.
Avatar 3:48pm
Honey Water:

That's good, especially keeping sweet Luciana well. Neither of us get flu shots and hope our record of flu-freeness holds through this season as well. (It was Philo's perfect work attendance bonus that allowed us to donate to FreeForm in December. :)

A possible theory: I had a cold back in October, and I think I recall your having something like that in the autumn, too? Maybe the people succumbing more easily to the flu contagion were never sick to build up antibodies in the months preceding. Just a thought.

When I was working, I would get the flu once a year in NYC, even w/ the shot. Most likely b/c being stuck in the rush hour subways. Before NYC, I maybe got the flu once every 4-6 years.

Well, I was sooooo, lazy, I thought it would require less energy to stay in my apt and fry some pierogis and add sour cream (vegan, damn you lactose intolerance!) and smoky tunas (napales fruit) salsa w/ extra chilies, then walking the short block around the corner to the burrito place. (and walking up and down three flights of stairs). I might get a gringo burrito later, and get the tequila braised goat burrito. It's big enough to last 3 meals.

Canning is a good trick. For instance, I can ten pints of curried lamb at a time. Feeling lazy just start some rice, open a jar and swirl up a little pan gravy. A meal for me and the wife.

Kurt you are killing it today!!!! I've loved the last several tracks. Perhaps we have similar taste.
Avatar 4:32pm

@dan: Wish I could get into canning, especially the years we get a ton of tomatoes in our garden, which wasn't in 2012. I just can't motivate myself to do it, but that's a super convenience to do it.

True story: I bought a totally body-wrecked Oldsmobile Cutlass when I first moved out to L.A. One morning I went down to where it was parked and a shiny object caught my eye in the gutter by the tire. It was a solid piece of metal that read "ass" in a nice script. Guess you know where it had fallen from.

Must confess, I still really dig the Beatles, but even more than that, I think rock & roll should be about rebellion, not reverence or worship. For that reason, even though I think the Beatles' music was and is the greatest, I'm fine with anyone who hates it. That goes double for young people, who shouldn't be falling all over their parents music to begin with.
  5:14pm
Carmichael:

Ha ha, Kurt. I love allmusic for its vast knowledge, but ya they've gone apeshit with the advertising. Probably paid for the newer faster servers they seem to have finally obtained.

allmusic's vast knowledge is far from what it once was. i have much better luck with discogs.com, really. and i know what they fact check.

@Parq: Reasonable. Just found it intolerance in reverse the other morning when someone *begged* to have a Ponty track removed, despite far more offensive sounds being played before and aft.
Kinda odd that some of "their parents" peers are more open-minded and tolerant than many of the younguns.

Going back over old comments. Just read JTE's from 4:19. <waits while you scroll back> I've been looking for a good catch-all genre name for years, just going with the iTunes standards, "Other" and "Unclassifiable". But I gotta tell ya, "Not Polka" has a whole lot of appeal.

I saw John Cale in FL in 1997, and it sounded like pub rock. My friend heckled, "get out your viola!". The band members were rather clueless about Cale's past and asked me an my friend to hook them up w/ some cannabis (I guess b/c we were college kids).

I'll check out discogs. They're probably run by true music lovers and not music reviewers.

ngh, I have teenagers. So that means plenty of One Direction, Justin Bieber and other musical fecal matter. Although one daughter asked me the other night who the singer was on a video I was watching: Phil Lynott's Old Town. She actually enjoyed it, so there's some hope for America's youth.
