Pete Fenson was on the Today Show a week or two ago plugging Olympic curling. I hope his team qualifies--the last US skip was a DISASTER.
Avatar 6:16pm
Danne D:

It's so garbage that they are probably kicking out wrestling. Wrestling is as olympic as an olympic sport gets
Avatar 6:17pm
hamburger:

so sportsy talk has dismissed curling to the side lines? :D
Avatar 6:17pm
Danne D:

@hamburger you should call in :)
Avatar 6:18pm
Carmichael:

Greco-Roman wrestling is too homo-erotic for the average Olympic viewer.
Avatar 6:20pm
Danne D:

It's actually harder ice than used for skating
Avatar 6:21pm
Danne D:

Pretty sure about that :)
Avatar 6:22pm
Danne D:

The ice may be natural but is usually frozen by a refrigeration plant pumping a brine solution through numerous pipes fixed lengthwise at the bottom of a shallow pan of water. Most curling clubs have an ice maker whose main job is to care for the ice. At the major curling championships, ice maintenance is extremely important. Large events, such as the Brier or other national/international championships, are typically held in an arena that presents a challenge to the ice maker, who must constantly monitor and adjust the ice and air temperatures as well as air humidity levels to ensure a consistent playing surface. It is common for each sheet of ice to have multiple sensors embedded in order to monitor surface temperature, as well as probes set up in the seating area (to monitor humidity) and in the compressor room (to monitor brine supply and return temperatures). The surface of the ice is maintained at a temperature of around 23 °F (−5 °C).[14]

could you call curling the encompassment of an ice hockey penalty shootout zen? probably not. just thought I'd curl it out there.

Anyone care about Formula 1 Auto Racing?
Avatar 6:24pm
Danne D:

I'm right. according to the "How Stuff Works" guys. Hockey players prefer ice of 24 to 26 degrees. Figure skaters prefer 26 to 28 degrees. And as mentioned above curlers prefer 23 degrees :)

Holy Curlers, Batman!

Sorry to say that if you knew the truth about Lance you would realize that he is pure evil... yes, he made a lot of money for cancer research but here's the deal - The powers that WERE told him they would cure his cancer but he had to help support the evil agenda by raising money for the 'medical community' - cancer research in particular - which they use to support yet more evil.

Here's a topic: the world is full of eligible, deserving candidates for the baseball Hall of Fame, and thanks to the deadlock over the Three Stooges, none of them got in this year. If baseball writers are this dysfunctional, how can they possibly criticize the sport?
