Not brushing after his Loudermilk, well, the devil gets his due.

Hi ndbob!

The Devil drinks Loudermilk for a midnight snack.

Hi Doug, James, Bob Artie... don't know how long I can stick around -- the Devil's Wife is working me like an ol' mule.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 5:57pm listener james from westwood:

howdy and good late tuesday, all! i'd say take a seat, but all satan seems to have is stalagmites.

"WFMU: Where Bad Music Happens to Good People"!! Or at least Satan music!

Hi there Doug and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm Doug Schulkind:

Hi Carmichael! Howdy Matt from Springfield!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm pacific standard simon:

The Devil has a funky choir!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm Matt from Springfield:

The Louvin/Loudermilks...the Louvin Bros actual last name was Loudermilk, and were first cousins of noted songwriter John D. Loudermilk.

Which, I'm proud to report because one of the more interesting finds in my recent genealogy searches was a Loudermilk from North Carolina! So I found my link to some of the best of country and folk.
Avatar 6:15pm Holly in NC:

Hi Doug & all other friends! Can't stay, but my spidey sense tells me that this is going to be a GREAT archive show :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm Matt from Springfield:

@Holly: May you be finished with this Archive half an hour before the Devil knows you've listened to it! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm Doug Schulkind:

Spidey sense, eh Holly? Have you gone over to the dark side?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:16pm holland oats:

drumma! peoples! it's not too late for me is it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm Doug Schulkind:

@Matt from Springfield
That is some ACE reportage on your part!

Hey Holland Baby! Jump right in, the water is boiling!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Matt from Springfield:

It's never too late, holland oats! Listen, and be AMAVED!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm Matt from Springfield:

@Doug: Haven't found the line-to-line link with them, but Loudermilk is an obscure German name--if you have one ancestor with it, you're related to them all (and if NC, you're closer still to the music family!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm Matt from Springfield:

When Satan Does The Rhumba On The Tuba Down In Cuba.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm Doug Schulkind:

Satan on first trumpet, here, obviously.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm Matt from Springfield:

Note to self: when challenging Satan to a musical battle, pick an instrument OTHER than trumpet!

"Tubular Bells"!!!
Avatar 6:23pm Holly in NC:

@Doug - No, but this moth sure has! pinterest.com...

OK, really must go, love to all
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:23pm listener james from westwood:

the only part of "the exorcist" i was wigged out by was when linda blair goes in for medical tests and blood shoots out of a tube in her arm for a second. rest of the film, piece of cake.
  6:23pm trish:

triangle. ting.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:24pm listener james from westwood:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm Matt from Springfield:

That moth IS off the chains! Err, web!
(PS: Look at the pinterest image to the left of that picture, in the middle! ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm Matt from Springfield:

@LJFW: The first time I saw both that film and "The Shining" was when a movie channel showed them back to back; "The Shining" was definitely scarier for me, by a longshot. They said in between how some are more freaked out by one film, or the other, and it's like a personality test which one freaks you out more.
  6:28pm trish:

Heya Doug
and all Ye Finely Tuned Listeners.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm Matt from Springfield:

In fact, I should someday get to the novel of "The Shining"--my Dad told me that he read that before the movie was out--and the BOOK chilled him to the bone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm Matt from Springfield:

Hiya, Well-Tempered Listener Trish!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm pacific standard simon:

A-skeered of movie? Pshaw!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:32pm holland oats:

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:32pm holland oats:

is that walter huston on flute?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:32pm listener james from westwood:

novel of "the shining" is pretty damn scary. i personally find "the shining" film scarier than "the exorcist," because i've had nightmares of being lost in huge, endless buildings like the overlook hotel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32pm Matt from Springfield:

So...which Turkish baths did Satan give the highest ratings on Yelp? I'm sure he'd be an expert on heat and steam--though his personal taste might skew a little too hot for the rest of us.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm pacific standard simon:

www.allaboutjazz.com...

Sammy Davis Jr. - Satan Swings Baby
  6:35pm trish:

@ljfw I haven't read that one. Scary reads. I recall hearing the film misplaced the evil - emphasizing the character rather than the hotel itself.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm Doug Schulkind:

@ndbob
Do you have those three discs' worth of St. James Sessions material?

@pacific standard simon
Thatsreallytrue!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45pm pacific standard simon:

This show would make a fine mix CD.
Avatar 6:48pm ndbob:

I have mp3s of them Doug - let me see if they are on this computer
Avatar 6:49pm ndbob:

and I do
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm Doug Schulkind:

Yeah, I have just MP3s too, ndbob. Of course, like a crazy fool, I burned them onto CDs.
Avatar 6:51pm ndbob:

I used to burn everything to a CD but it got to be overwhelming
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:54pm listener james from westwood:

whoo, back from a phonecall. trish, you are correct. they mention indian burial ground in the movie, but the hotel as animate force and the greater evil than jack torrance is def. the thrust of the book.
Avatar 6:54pm ndbob:

excellent show Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm Matt from Springfield:

And GREAT finish! Thanks for the Lenis Guess!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm Matt from Springfield:
