Is this song an example of what you can do with one of those lap steel guitars that you always see in pawn shops?

@RRN63: Nothing that exciting. I was actually in South Carolina. Which was beautiful.

Having an icy cool drink, one hopes.
Avatar 9:33pm
Dave Mandl:

@PSS: I *think* it was an electric 12-string. But you can probably get similar sounds from a lap steel.
Avatar 9:34pm
Dave Mandl:

Not too many icy cool ones, but I did spend a lot of time in a swimming pool, which is almost as good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm
pacific standard simon:

I'm not much of a swimmer, so I tend to envision the liquids inside the body, rather than surrounding it.
Avatar 9:39pm

I learned to swim ridiculously late in life, but I'm OK at it. My daughter's better, and you can't keep her out of the pool.

Avatar 10:15pm
Droll:

I wonder what the name of that album means. Sounds like middle-eastern hammer dulcimer.
Don't listen to DM, there is no magic to FMU: There's an app that makes Weezer sound like Michael Shelley.

  11:26pm

Dave, did you know John Pachak (who you might remember from LBC) has relocated to So. Car.?
Avatar 11:27pm
Droll:

DM, To be fair, it's not like the turntables provide infinite MTBF either. And don't get me started about those computers!
  11:28pm
Robert:

Meanwhile, I was at Ken Gale's End of the Paleozoic Era party last week, and he told us all the on-air people at WBAI had just been laid off due to lack of money to pay them--a problem you'll never have here.
Avatar 11:29pm
Dave Mandl:

@Robert: No, I didn't know that. Of course I remember John, though I haven't seen him in ages. How's he doing?
Avatar 11:31pm
Dave Mandl:

Ugh, BAI is hopeless. I used to be a devoted listener, but they've been wrecking that station slowly and steadily over the past 20 years.
Avatar 11:32pm
fleep:

Same goes for KPFK, so Pacifica is consistent. Sigh.
  11:33pm
Robert:

He's doing fine physically, and said he'd let everybody (who, who knows, might include some reading here) know as soon as he's settled in. It was for financial reasons. We all knew he would have to move, it's just that I'd assumed until recently he would be staying in this metropolitan area.
Avatar 11:35pm
Dave Mandl:

@fleep: It's a lunatic asylum. And they forced out the sane people one by one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm
pacific standard simon:

KPFA as well -- it was my WFMU in the '70s & '80s, but that was over long ago.
  11:40pm
Robert:

Interesting that you're describing a SLOW 20 yr. process. I was used to, and even rather amused by, the periodic "political" spasms Pacifica was infamous for, but obviously you're describing something worse.
  11:42pm
Robert:

What was funny to me was the way each such crisis at WBAI or Pacifica generally was described as if the latest were the only one they'd ever had, a complete aberration.
Avatar 11:45pm
Droll:

Possibly an entirely different group of people each time? "New to me" makes new again?
