I have a "little shaker thing" (thanks, Doug!). That flew off Carlos Santana's tambourine and landed right in front of my face as I was photographing him in performance. I was elbows on the stage and I just pocketed it. I had it on a key ring for about a decade.

Oh, if I had a monopoly on those. I'd be a zillionaire.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 9:12am Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 9:14am Doug Schulkind:

@Alex in Illinois
Wha? That's a disaster! Are you talking the iPhone or Android app? Are positively sure? Have you tried downloading the app again? My app works fine. Haven't heard any other reports of this. Anyone else have any problems?

Alex, you absolutely must report this to the authorities. Send Ken Freedman an email at the station. Yikes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 9:17am listener james from westwood:

GTDR stream OK on my iPod Touch. Using v 4.0.1 (273). Is that what you have, Alex?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 9:17am Uncle Michael:

Alex, click on the musical note to get to the stream list. I'm sorry to say that the latest version of the UI is less intuitive than the one it replaces.

Also, can you check to see if the archived shows are all off by one calendar day?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 9:17am Webhamster Henry:

I'm listening on the app just fine.
Avatar Fri. 4/4/14 9:19am Parq:

Alex, if you're still here, there's a blue musical note on the upper right corner, which is the menu bar. That's where you'll find the links to all the alt streams. Took me a while to figure it out, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 9:19am Uncle Michael:

A musical note on the left for the stream list...then a musical note on the right for now playing?

Ugh.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 9:48am Doug Schulkind:

There is drop-dead gorgeous and haunting piano music from Burma. Otherwordly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 9:50am Uncle Michael:

I'm not entirely sold on the UI of the newest app but the functionality is fantastic. The download function makes every show effectively a podcast on the device in operation.

Avatar Fri. 4/4/14 9:55am Holly in NC:

@UM - On Android app one can dl & forever save any show that's currently in app archives (which is most recent 5 broadcasts of every show, I think? Not near my phone right now) - is that how it works for iOs also?

@Doug - YES
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 9:58am Uncle Michael:

@Holly, I believe that's correct.

If you are playing a saved show, that's what the mysterious "Nav" thing on the main screen is for.

It will be handy to download shows for roadtrips where signal is spotty.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 9:59am Uncle Michael:

And I have Android so I have no knowledge of the iOS app.

@Doug my dad was from Nebraska, so there's still a connection there:)

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 10:01am listener james from westwood:

If I hadn't had to take work along on my March trip, I'd have been fine on the road getting GTDR with just the iOS app. Anywhere I had a hotspot, I had a tune.

Ok, fellow food enthusiasts - What should I make for lunchfeast? Ingredients on hand: eggs, mushrooms, kale, dandelion greens, garlic, ginger, fresh turmeric, plain full fat yogurt, sour cream, sardines, canned salmon, pulled pork, smoked chicken, hot peppers (jalpos & thai), cheese (blue, parm, aged gouda, cheddar), broccoli, nuts (walnuts, almonds, pine, hazel, brazil, cashews) , tomato sauce, limes, an aging meyer lemon.

I could just fry eggs in butter, finish w red wine vinegar & throw over some greens, & that is what I'll do if y'all don't come up with something enticing. Spice rack is full.

@Doug - I'll eat all your cilantro, and then some. Did you kow that your aversion is likely due to genetics rather than (or in addition to) taste preferences? When people such as youself say that cilantro tastes like soap it does - to you - but what I taste is something completely different. I find that fascinating.

On the other hand chitlins taste like shit to everyone, but some people apparently like the taste of shit :-)

My dear wife, who loves cilantro and bitterly resents not being able to cook with it, does not believe in a genetic predisposition to hating cilantro. She just thinks I'm weak.

Even after an Irish-diet, narrow-menu upbringing, and with a still often cautious and inhibited palate, I do like cilantro. Go figure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 10:44am Doug Schulkind:

still crazy b/p, after all the years! (with no apologies ever to that little prick Paul Simon)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 10:47am Jeff Golick:

That Sam Rivers trait drives me nuts. Impossible to keep 'em straight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 10:47am Gary:

Sam reason poets like single-word titles: Because they tend to resonate more than having more words. The more words you have, the fewer possible meanings, if that makes sense?
Avatar Fri. 4/4/14 10:47am Van in DC:

Knowing how you love the really long titles, I know the single word titles must drive you bonkers :)

I'm not sure if I have stinky asparagus pee.
As soon as local asparagus hits the market I will surely find out!

Guys, if you are worried about bitter semen eat a lot of celery.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 10:47am Gary:

*Same reason

I don't go for the single-name artists, myself. I mean, Bonobo? Nah.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 10:48am listener james from westwood:

There's a Tex-Mex jernt a half hour from me that adds just the right amount of cilantro to its salsa. They also fry up corn tortilla chips fresh for each table. Incredible. The actual food's great, too.
Avatar Fri. 4/4/14 10:49am βrian:

I take that back. I have an enormous crush on Camille.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 10:51am Gary:

Babul! This is a great film. And Shamshad is a superhero. Was as superhero--she just died last year :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 10:51am Doug Schulkind:

@Van!
That is so funny. I never put those two things together, my love of loooong song titles and my consternation with short ones. Thank you for revealing to me something about myself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 10:52am Ike:

@James -- where's that? Near Westwood?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 10:52am Doug Schulkind:

Before or after, Holly? Or DURING?
Avatar Fri. 4/4/14 10:52am Holly in NC:

@ βrian: I guess you're not a Rush fan, then.

What are other single-name artists? Aside from Madonna, Cher & Yes (who each have more than defensible moments), all I can think of is Dokken, Ratt, Heino & Asia - which lends credence to your theory

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 10:56am Doug Schulkind:

ello earrie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 11:07am Gary:

ABBA?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 11:09am listener james from westwood:

@earrie: Due to its high water uptake/content? I know there's a group of veggies they advise one only buy organics for, given the choice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 11:10am Doug Schulkind:

You snuck that cilantro in there, Van. I can't blame you.

@ljfw Yep. It's up there with apples on the residue list.
Avatar Fri. 4/4/14 11:14am βrian:

It would be coriander leaves, then, to distinguish from the spice. I know what you mean, though. I much prefer the flavor of chick peas as opposed to garbanzo beans.
Avatar Fri. 4/4/14 11:15am βrian:

Strawberries are bad news, generally. Sad, that.
Avatar Fri. 4/4/14 11:16am still b/p:

I never et no salicornia, but surely would, especially if harvested by my own hand when biking by a summer marsh....if it's waiting here on the New England coast, and if yanking some from otherwise sensitive protected shore areas doesn't earn me jail food instead.
Avatar Fri. 4/4/14 11:16am Holly in NC:

@earrie - That is also VERY true, celery is one of the veg that's really important to eat organic. The ewg "dirty dozen" & "clean 15" pdfs & apps are super helpful, imho. Lord knows I can't afford to buy everything organic, so it's great to be able to prioritize purchases.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 11:25am Gary:

A whirled rat is something I once saw at 3:00 am in my toilet. Having gotten up to pee (without turning on the light, as there was just enough ambient light to do the business), I noticed a weird "chirping" noise. Flipping on the light, I saw this rat struggling to get up the side of the bowl. I was peeing on its head. I shrieked and flushed, almost simultaneously. The rat literally whirled around, backspinning back where he (she?) came from.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 11:25am Jeff Golick:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 11:27am Doug Schulkind:

@Gary
And I bet the rat was chirping, "Gosh darn it, asparagus again!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/4/14 11:27am Jeff Golick:

@Gary, had that been my wife who saw such a scene, I think she'd still be screaming.
Avatar Fri. 4/4/14 11:28am Holly in NC:

@Gary - Damn. I am not scared of rats but that would send me over the edge of insanity. And I would never use indoor plumbing again. Ever.
Avatar Fri. 4/4/14 11:28am ndbob:
