I love that one.

NOBODY expects the WFMU inquisition.

WFMU: "A phenomenon that works in practice but not in theory" is another good one...

I like the one about debunking capitalism's conceit that profit is what motivates people.

I forget the exact wording, but something like "Our programming doesn't fall through the cracks, it is the cracks."

And may I say, Gaylord's Pet Soundalikes CD is astonishing. These thoughts are brought to me by your superior turntable-ness, Jessie!

the beach boys played here (boston) for our 4th festivities, which got moved to the third due to the possibility of rain, and then they got hit with a huge thunderstorm anyway. which is cool as long as mike love got upset.

I recently took a journey down memory lane and listened to all the Van Halen albums from the first S/T to 1984. That is not a great journey. “Diver Down” is pretty bad. “Fair Warning” ages better than expected.
  12:47am
nate:

even today, how can you hear "unchained" and not want to rip off your shirt like hulk hogan?

i don't do it BUT I WANT TO
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51am

yes, carmichael! all of gaylord's comps are amazing. if it's still online (on vimeo, maybe?) there's video of one of gaylord's live presentations about knock-off acts. it's brilliant. and even if it's not still online, it exists somewhere & remains brilliant!

Droll:

Diver Down is uniformly panned by reviewers and audiences alike, nevertheless it is my favorite VH album because it's so unprepared. It's a bunch of instrumentals they had lying around and some covers. The whole record is only 32 minutes long. It's what would normally be outtakes but they were really taking off and "needed a new album right now".
  12:59am
JakeGould:

@nate “Mean Streets” is still really great. Almost an aberration in their career because it really shreds. And VH does not shred.

This “Holiday Road” is so cool. Thanks!
