I missed last weeks show:( are we going to hear another episode of "joe frank" at 4pm???
  3:04pm
Laura L:

Nice photo of The Clientele in the studio--looking forward to hearing that.

You want to hear the photo of The Clientele, Laura?
  3:06pm
Laura L:

Yes, rrg, it's one of those synesthesia type things--I'm sure you hear pictures too--who doesn't!

Close the picture, and it plays. Open it, and it stops!

Anyone? Listening through the iPhone/I pod touch app? Every few minutes it keeps buffering
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:09pm
rrg:

No problems on my Mac, playing the stream with VLC.
  3:10pm
P-90:

That photo does look like it sounds good.
  3:11pm
Phillip.(Brooklyn):

I have an iPod touch and it keeps buffering every 5-6 minutes. Very annoying:(
  3:11pm
P-90:

@Phillip: I'm not using it now, but it was doing that on and off all Monday night/Tuesday morning- -damn frustrating.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:15pm
rrg:

As I'm sure you know, there can be many reasons for that, and sometimes it's a purely local problem.
  3:16pm
P-90:

High volume Internet traffic, that sort of thing?

Sometimes more local than that. Like your ISP or even just the network in your home or office.
  3:19pm
Listening Out There:

FYI, playback currently is fine for me, using iTunes over WiFi (and that's on a home network with other demands). However, when I've used the iPhone WFMU app over WiFi, buffering happens. Buffering just happens!

Loving this set.
  3:23pm

I also use the Android app, occasionally has the same problem. I feel like the IOS app is a little better overall, just an impression...

The french pronunciation of clientele?
  3:28pm
P-90:

@ Brian: the snobby upscale old-fashioned English pronounciation
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm
Sem Chumbo:

That damned Norman invasion language legacy!
Avatar 🎸 3:31pm
βrian:

Ah, so it came from the French, and they retain a bit of the pronunciation. That happens with spelling, too.
  3:32pm
!:

Irene!
  3:32pm
Dean:

Per OED: Pronunciation: /klaɪənˈtiːl/ /-ˈtɛl/ /kliːɒnˈtɛl/

Etymology: < Latin clientēla the relation of client, clientship, a body of clients, < client-em client n. This seems to have been taken immediately < Latin in the 16th cent., to have become obsolete in the 17th (it is noted as Obs. in Webster 1864), and to have been re-adopted from French in the middle of the 19th, in sense 3; hence it is often pronounced wholly or partly as French.
  3:33pm
P-90:

@ Brian: right, some Americans say it that way too, It's just the hard "e" sound, none of the other Frenchness

@Sem: I believe you have more Normans in Canada now than they do in France at this point
  3:34pm
Laura L:

They sound just great, Irwin--special thanks to Irene.

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:36pm

Yes, the French pronunciation of the word "clientele" is noticeably different from the way the band, and Irwin, say it.

Mike Sin:

This Clientele set is perfect for today. Sounds great. Kudos to Irene on the board -- she's a pro.
  3:39pm
P-90:

Yeah, saying "cly"-entele is just an Americanism, presumably because that's the way it "looks" phonetically, and because it refers to "clients" which everyone pronounces (in English) with the hard "e".
