Favoriting September 24, 2014: #38 - Is This Forty?

When your friends start getting married, it's just a matter of time before your friends start getting divorced. But what does dating after a divorce look like? I speak with my 40ish friend "Ted" about how quickly he got back into the game. Then, I'm joined by a 40ish friend-of-a-friend who has hired a professional matchmaking service (actually, two) to help him date more efficiently.

We were together for 7 years, so, it was time. I'm still friends w/ my long term gfs from my past, where no drama occurred, and they're friends w/ my wife.

Ange:

@Chris - also smart! @Jaifra - yeah, ugh, they're still living together, too.

What type of emotional connection was Ted unable to have with his ex-wife that made her feel she had to look for it outside the marriage. Would Ted be able to provide that to his potential partners, or is that something he can not offer a woman, his wife, or any woman?
  7:28pm
Trans~ally:

? Two, if that is true about how Ted views older women's comfort levels with their bodies, why is Ted choosing to date women ten years younger than himself?

She met another guy, and left him for that other guy.

Could be all of the above, or maybe both parties changed. (don't knock a good bj).

its easier to be honest and say "i just wanna get laid"

Good fun, thanks Andrea!

Trans~ally:

If she cheated, it is definitely his "I just wanna get laid or get BJ's" revenge syndrome. But, if it takes two people to create a problem, and the problem goes unaddressed, the next relationship carries the weight of that problem too. Which would suck for the unsuspecting newcomer.

Thanks, Ange!

it would suck for the unsuspecting newcomerS...he is dating 20 women... the more the merrier...

Artist and song title of what played before the 3am messages to Leena please! I caught a little bit of it.. I was really enjoying the female vocals.

Does "Ted" not sound like another Why Oh Why guest with disguised voice...?
  5:18pm
AV:

yay! finally an epp for me. am 45 and separated, newly into the digital dating pool. much of ted's talk rings so true, especially about the attitude change that happens after ending a marriage. what we're looking for, how liberating and natural it is to cut to the chase quickly. hoping to hear more from ted, or at least this older age-appropriate POV. no, really, +40ers on e-dating sites, we are legion! (and we like to hear our voices in dating podcasts.)
