same here UM - was listening to Sounds of the Sixties and they kept saying "Davis" tho they acknowledged the American pronunciation as "Davies"

My 1st exposure to that appearance was in the Klaus Nomi documentary. Amazing to think the show hosted the likes of that-era Bowie, Wm S Burroughs, Sun Ra, etc.
