Hmm... the unfortunately-named Alan Jackson, apparently. Unfortunate, because searching for a drummer by that name on Google is, of course, going to net you a whole lot of links to Booker T's drummer. Can't be the same guy, can it?

Funny you are mentioning Shopsins. I never went there but loved visiting Bleecker Street in the 1970s and 1980s. Now it’s just so… Vile… It’s just cutesy bakery junk and Starbucks. 100% no small businesses…

@coelacanth: That reminds me of when I was 21 and took a date—who was 19 or 20—out to “The Comedy Cellar.” We were carded, but they kept an eye on us because of the difference. I think I ordered a Long Island Iced tea and let her have a sip… The second the straw hit her mouth some matronly owner/manager came over and said, “If she takes one more sip out of your glass you’ve both kicked out! GOT IT!” So we spent the rest of the next hour or so terrified and wondering how top make the most of a blown evening.

@Ryab: Things may change in NYC, but honestly the Comedy Cellar is 100% the same as I remember it. It was the first comedy club I ever went to when I was like 16 or 17… Friends dad wanted to take us there since I was so into Eddie Murphy. Surreal sitting behind a wooden pole—got there late—in a place filled with drunks and smoke seeing how comedy happened for real. So magical!
