My secret shame: I've never cared for pickles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm chris:

Crazy for pickles, ah tells ya!
Avatar 12:02pm d¢ pät:

personally, I don't see any use in pickles..they seem to be a sandwich-based distraction.

Mr.Belock! Greetings to you, sir!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Greg from Bloomfield:

Afternoon, Joe!

Bread and butter chips.
Avatar 12:03pm d¢ pät:

NO shame in that, Hoboken Jack.

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:06pm OnTheTrain:

Hi All
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:06pm Hoboken Jack:

Many moons ago I was writing an article about Clown College, got the contact info for a fellow known as Pickles the Clown, and left him a message on his answering machine. Weeks went by, well past my deadline, when I got a breathless message back: "This is Pickles the Clown... I'm sorry, I've been away... I hope I can still be in the article..."
Avatar 12:07pm Dr. Goot:

Good Day - The Claussen guy is pretty cheeky - media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:08pm drr:

That's great! I feel my tastes have been further validated.
Avatar 12:09pm d¢ pät:

I'm more of a chips guy--if I don't have chips with my sandwich, something just seems not right the whole time..
Avatar 12:10pm Claw!:

Good afternoon, Joe and fellow Montes!
  12:10pm Sissophonic Cheryl:

TCM! TCM! TCM!
  12:11pm P-90:

Claussen guy: from back in the days when every cartoon character had a little bit of a Peter Max influence. Also: could the position of his pickle be ANY more suggestive?
Avatar 12:12pm Claw!:

Claussen is indeed the way to go. Suck it, Vlasic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Mike East:

I like half sours. Cornichons if I'm feeling fancy. And I agree with dc pat that I feel uncomfortable eating a sandwich without chips.
I also love this rock n roll, Joe B. Thanks for the sounds.
Avatar 12:14pm MenfussMike:

I like Vlasic stackers. I can eat them straight out of the jar. I don't do bread and butter and I don't do spears anymore. As for burgers, I always have some Vlasic chips around.

Three songs by one artist makes me nervous
Avatar 12:21pm d¢ pät:

The Romantics She's Got Everything is probably the best one

Hi, Joe. Planning to play some Neil Young from his RSD box set that Todd-o-phonic mentioned the other day? A pickle-related tale of woe from a few years ago - www.fastcompany.com...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm coelacanth:

oh,i know, d¢ - i got the impression from that post ☝ that the fall did it too- which would be pretty sweet!

...i like a good pickle. dill or garlic or half-sour.
- nothing with yellow dye added, which is most of them.

this reminds me of the Bangles

I wish I could be like David Watts
Avatar 12:38pm Joe B:

Richard Hell did I Gotta Move but changed it to You gotta Move or am I remembering it wrong?

The Romantics did it too
Avatar 12:41pm d¢ pät:

I was thinking of something from a while ago. Romantics?? hmmm
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Frankipop:

Swamp Rats did a great cover of She's Got Everything
Avatar 12:42pm V Priceless:

Unrelated cover versions: I just read that Jerry Nolan covered Chuck Berry's "Havana Moon" in the 80's - anyone ever heard it?
Avatar 12:42pm Joe B:

I prefer the term homage to rip off
  12:42pm Julie:

Romantics IS a good while ago
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Frankipop:

Havana Moon was the inspiration for Louie Louie
Avatar 12:43pm d¢ pät:

You're right @Julie I was thinking of Romantics version.

Avatar 1:40pm Claw!:

Joe, what prompted the relocation of the record fair?
Avatar 1:40pm Joe B:

they renovated the armory so capacity too small. manhattan pavilion priced us out
Avatar 1:41pm Toddophonic:

Missed beginning of show, but if we are talking about great Kinks' kovers, my nod has to be to The Chocolate Watch Band's version of "I'm Not Like Everybody Else".

Avatar 1:51pm Carmichael:

@Coel: Sweet pickle chips for burgers, flat pickle slabs for sandwiches. Not sure of brand preference, but I know Vlasig is over-rated.

Oh, and sweet pickle relish for tuna and potato salads.

Why do they even bother coloring the pickle water? They have to pay for the coloring, so that extra ingredient costs them money. Has anyone here consciously decided not to buy a jar of pickles because the water wasn't green enough??? I need answers, People!
Avatar 2:22pm d¢ pät:

perception is reality. Some studies conclude that more than half of what people think is good food comes from the presentation. I'll bet the manufacturers know it's safer to put dye in than to risk bad presentaion. And I don't think it's conscious at all.

V you've got a genius marketing idea!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:27pm OnTheTrain:

Well when the pickle water is cloudy it can freak some pickle eaters out. Like when Ba Tampte 1/2 sours been sitting in your fridge for like 9 months and it starts to get cloudy.
Avatar 2:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- not werkin' on a Monday & I don't even think 'ThreeChordMonte' ! - jeepers...
Avatar 2:28pm Claw!:

I hear ya, Frankipop - I buy shampoo without sulfates because more suds do not equal more clean.
Fish - we should make black shampoo that smells like pickled eggs. We'd go broke!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm coelacanth:

but flintstone vitamins are still fake-colored. (but they're shit anyway)
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:29pm OnTheTrain:

I love how children Claratin is both an actual thing, is neon blue and it takes like spree candy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm coelacanth:

i like my shampoo, but it is a little sudsy!
i've seen black shampoo; but it smells more like tar.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:31pm OnTheTrain:

Avatar 2:32pm glenn:

ummmm. that's because black shampoo has coal oil in it, ergo the tar smell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm Frankipop:

I think I need to see the movie version of 'Black Shampoo'
www.imdb.com...
Avatar 2:35pm Claw!:

Oh, yeah, I guess they do make black coal tar shampoo, huh?
See, if they marketed it as "Goth shampoo" and sold it at Hot Topic, I guarantee they would be making way more money off that stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm Frankipop:

Skip E Lowe is in it ???!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm coelacanth:

Bear!, maybe our 'poo should have sharp shards in it and smell like fish!

yeh, glenn, it's for dandruff,as i remember. (our store sold it)
Avatar 2:35pm Claw!:

I wanna see that movie now, too, Franki.
Avatar 2:36pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Haha Claw!
Pickles: preserved thing that's bad for you - or fermented thing that's great for you??
Avatar 2:36pm Claw!:

I love it - Shardpoo! Sounds dangerously close to Shart Poo, though.

I'd still buy it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm coelacanth:

good goth idea Bear!. ..maybe with some sparkles in it.
Avatar 2:38pm Claw!:

Yes, the fish scales would give it that nice, sparkly effect.
  2:39pm i k e:

There was a jar of pickled eggs at FMU during the marathon when I was volunteering. I didn't think I would like them but they were REALLY GOOD! Wow.
Avatar 2:40pm Claw!:

Ike, go on...
Avatar 2:41pm Claw!:

Are they tart and eggy?
  2:42pm i k e:

Yes, and not too yolky! Like the best elements of a pickle and a hard-boiled egg put together.
Avatar 2:43pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Interwebz say: Pickles stand out as flavorful, low-calorie vegetables and are high in vitamin K [helps blood clot - if you *want* blood to clot] - unfortunately, pickles are also high in sodium...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm Guido from Cologne:

Must run!
Loved it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm coelacanth:

Rev Rabbit- from i could determine, pickles are practically devoid of value as a food, but still are not harmful. (though they may have too much salt for some folks)
they're generally not fermented.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm coelacanth:

oh,you've got it!
Avatar 2:44pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- cheers coelacanth.
Avatar 2:46pm Claw!:

I love sodium, so I'm ok with that. Pickles are perfect for when my salt tooth needs something crunchy and I don't want to hate myself after housing a whole bag of chips. :-}
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm coelacanth:

so,Mr.Belock - i don't think we've been bestowed with which is YOUR favorite pickle!
Avatar 2:48pm Claw!:

Yeah, Joe. The people want to know what their champ likes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm coelacanth:

Claw! exactly.
-though more often i'll eat salty cashews or pistachios.
Avatar 2:49pm V Priceless:

scroll up to 12:03pm, you's!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:50pm Jeff from Rahway:

Fab show today Joe!
  2:50pm Marie D:

The Denver Zest vocals totally remind me of The Minutemen's
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm coelacanth:

ah- i did scroll up,but overlooked that.
Avatar 2:52pm Dr. Goot:

I like fried pickles with pistrami - media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm Frankipop:

I don't think I want to know what "pistrami" is
Avatar 2:54pm Dr. Goot:

ha!
Avatar 2:54pm Claw!:

Krinkle kut it is.
Avatar 2:54pm V Priceless:

why am I not surprised the new Fantastic Four reboot looks like total poo-poo...

Thanks Joe! Rockin' Show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm coelacanth:

Dr.,i can only imagine that because my mom used to slice a hot dog so it folded open, then put velveeta cheese & pickle on it -fry the whole thing.
i loved that, but this is the first time i've thought of it in decades.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm coelacanth:

Thanks Joe Great show!
