I needa go to Radio City sometime - never been! - glad you mentioned it. My mama was in Pennsylvania & my papa was in the Coast Guard stationed on Gov. Island circa 1969/70....they'd meet in NYC and see shows at Radio City.
  11:10am
P-90:

Only problem with Radio City: acoustics for amplified music can be tricky. I've seen that shows there that had mixing problems until 30 minutes or more into the set.

BABY - Aaron in Minneapolis almost stole your catch phrase!
  11:42am
P-90:

@Michael Shelley: Your description hit it perfectly, the consistent issue at RC is that amplified music gets very "muddy" very quickly there if it's too loud, so you often hear exactly what you described: that "Mom turned it down a little too low" sound. I was so excited to catch the Emmylou Harris/Mark Knopfler tour there a few years ago, and the clunky sound was very distracting, lots of people in the audience were talking about it during intermissions and while exiting.

John Lennon used to walk into bars on the Upper West Side, and if he decided he felt comfortable enough there to stay for more than one drink, he'd quietly ask the bartender to give everyone there a round on him.

I've been tending bar for about 10 years and I've seen it happen exactly once, a year or two ago- an Australian guy who is a semi-regular came in in the middle of the day, the historically lousy soccer team that he had followed since childhood had won an important playoff game in some sort of miraculous come-from-behind fashion, after years of heartbreak and futility, and he bought everyone in the place two rounds. Although there were only 7 or 8 other people there and some of them were just there for lunch and didn't want a drink.
